Think I would rather have item 350341036993 for the same price.

Not voting hot or cold though.

You would rather have a refurbished samsung (3x optical) over a brand new olympus (5x optical) for the same price...
why?

why?

A few reasons:-

I like the silver more
Rechargeable battery
slightly smaller and to me a nicer shape
reviews on the web of the Samsung are pretty much all better than the Olympus

And I have had a few refurbished items from Argos' ebay shop now (an incar bluetooth CD player, and a tomtom XL being the two big items) and although the box has been a bit messy the actual units have all been (or at least looked) brand new.

This is a preference I've seen expressed many times and the reasoning behind it intrigues me as it seems to be counter-intuitive.

Why is a proprietary battery better than AA batteries? The latter could obviously be rechargeable items and carrying a couple of spares with a spare memory card is cheap and easy but it's also possible to slap in a couple of readily-available, shop-bought alkalines or "borrow" batteries from some other device in extremis.

The only time I find AA or AAA batteries inconvenient is when a device requires an odd number as my recharger works with 2 or 4 rather than singletons

Don't know about the particular batteries in the samsung but my experience is that the special fit batteries tend to be better than standard aa rechargeables. I'd rather have Li-ion than NiMH or whatever.

I thought this was a good deal, but I've taken a look at all the reviews on Amazon and it gets hammered.

I agree with the Jonboy about the batteries though. The ones which take both rechargeable and non-rechareable are a lot more versatile for travelling with.

Not voting either way

Heat added, looks good, but note: it doesn't take standard sd cards, only the (now effectively obsolete) xd cards or micro sd (with an adaptor) which will cost you more than standard sd.

As for the battery issue, personally I prefer AA's - more flexible and decent rechargeable NiMH's will give at least as many shots as a lithium ion.

Just noticed that on Amazon's website they recommend buying it with a 4GB SD card - which won't fit! Lol.

I think the choice of battery is something which is on the top list of most of the camera buyers.some want the lion one as it makes the whole unit very compact while some one want the AA as it gives the freedom of replacing them any time when the camera is out of juice which is too important during holiday period.

Great price for 5 x optical zoom camera.

got one of these for my mum a while back, feels quite cheap, and the image quality is relatively poor (focusing seems a little off as well, but that may just have been my mum). Low light performance without a flash isnt much better than your average phone camera.

for the price she paid (£79 IIRC) it wasnt worth it. at this price, it's better, but still not brilliant. spend a bit more money and get a better camera.

Reviews seem to suggest it isnt your mum, but that the camera does suffer from quite poor image quality, theres no point in having a 5x optical zoom if the image processor is poor.
