Welcome to the future. Biological war has decimated life on Earth. Los Angeles is a windswept ghost town where Robert Neville tools his convertible through sunlit streets foraging for supplies. And makes damn sure he gets undercover before sundown, when other 'inhabitants' emerge.

The Omega Man adapts Richard Matheson's novel I Am Legend into a high-impact high-tension saga of a fate not so far removed from reality. Charlton Heston is Neville, fending off attacks by The Family, sinister neopeople spawned by the plague. He also becomes a man with a mission after meeting Lisa (Rosalind Cash), another uninfected survivor - and guardian of some healthy children representing our species' hope.

An enjoyable nostalgic watch, without Will Smith. Thanks o/p.

Talking about nostalgic watches, this film is not to be confused with "The Gemini Man" TV series, where Ben (Alias Smith and Jones) Murphy uses a Heuer Chronosplit watch, not an Omega Time Computer 1.

Random comment for the watch buffs - I'm easily confused ;)

yeah, this is the original I AM LEGEND

Nope, the first adaptation of "I Am Legend" was "The Last Man on Earth" (1964) starring Vincent Price.

This was the first blu-ray I ever bought and while it's very much of its time, it beats the dreary Will Smith version for simple entertainment value.

If you've read the original book, or even if you've seen the Will Smith version and are curious, it's really interesting to watch this alongside the other versions of the film as well. They're all very different takes on a fantastic novel.

While it wasn't the original ending the alternate version of I AM Legend is much much better. VP and CH versions are both very good.

Saw this film with my dad at the cinema back when there were single screen cinemas all over the place. Loved it then, still do.

What man wouldn't want a pad like Neville has in this film? It's the grooviest apartment ever for my money.

Comparisons with the book are never fair. They're different mediums, with the book being able to describe every detail and nuance of the tale without time constraints, while each reader interprets and imagines the written story in a different way.

The film adaptations must edit their story and cast the actors as close as possible to the original characters, and that alone is bound to disappoint some whose own imagination saw the characters as different to the cast.
