I am really tempted by this just to read comics and do a bit of general browsing, but after looking around, I can only find bad things about Gearbest. Are they really as slow as they seem and do you think I will be stung by duty? Also, do you buy in dollars from the Chinese warehouse? Sorry for the questions, total noob.

I always thought that the postage was subsidised by the state, therefore goods travel at there own pace. I have had goods take anything from 12 days - 60+ days to arrive. Also gearbest don't always have the items ready to dispatch. My advice is don't order anything you need in a hurry, but act surprised and be happy when they do. That's what I do and so far I have got all but 1 item which I had a refund for.

They are not that bad just a bit slow but make sure you pay for the insurance

Looks interesting for the price...

The specs are pretty decent and an HD screen is a bonus, for this price.

If you are skeptical ordering from Gearbest, it is on sale through eBay for a £1-2 more and you will get full PayPal back up for the first 4 months of purchase if it goes wrong. Again you are ordering from China, but if the seller fails to respond to queries in this time PayPal will get involved.

It's not just being slow, it's the after sales service. Don't expect anything like Amazon where you can return it if there's a problem and it'll be free and they'll apologise and send you a new one and etc. In fact don't expect anything. Treat it like a dodgy market trader - once it's yours, they'll try to pretend they never sold it to you. At the most they might accept a return if you pay for it, and then claim if you didn't send it tracked they didn't receive it.

You can use Paypal with Gearbest too.
