Got my mum this for a birthday - took almost 14 months for her to be able to take the flight. Virgin seemed to have more customers than balloons. Bear in mind that it is very likely that you'll get at least 1 scheduled flight cancelled due to bad weather. Given that you have to book months in advance, the years slots just disappear if you have bad luck on weather (doesn't take much wind for a cancellation). So unless you are very very flexible on when and where you fly, it can be difficult to get booked.

She absolutely loved it mind, once she made it.

I got one of these Virgin deals a few years back. After it being cancelled 4-5 times I was fed up and got my money back. Not problem getting a refund and I was probably unlucky.

When you go on the website you have to book a few months in advance, then if you get cancelled its another few months for your next and so on. As I remember your also responsible for helping to pack the balloon away.

Still an excellent deal but just be patient.

Heat.

Edit - just read you need 7 cancellations for a refund on this deal.

A great price if it works out. Voted hot.
Also says that if you get a refund (after 7 cancellations!) you have to pay a £10 admin fee.
I think I'll start up a balloon business, take a load of bookings, cancel them all, then charge people £10 when they ask for their money back. I won't even need a balloon lol.

I had mine cancelled on several occasions and eventually took to the air 18 months late!
Good price and worth the wait.

My own personal experience - other may mave really enjoyed their "flights." Real let down - basket full of people, spend a long time waiting for baloon to be prepared for the "flight" - lot of time take up with introducions with capatin etc. Over-rated.

Obviously no compalints against orignal poster.

This is also available in the West Midlands (Stratford Upon Avon if I recall correctly).

I wonder though, is this price per person?

Sold out! :)

Heat for the lucky.

Edit: Not sold out for some areas, just change the city.

We did this is August last year. Got lucky with weather on our first booking. Truly unforgettable experience.

We paid £129 each too, so this is mega hot deal. Might do it again!

I'm setting up a business to ride my unicorn. It's £299 per person per hour as you will understand unicorns are rare.

You may ride this unicorn unless it doesn't feel like it, which it will let me know 72 hours in advance. After it cancels on you three times you will be refunded apart from a small £30 admin fee, because Unicorns are expensive to keep.

Why do you keep putting the word "flight" in quotes? Are you suggesting that these particular balloons don't fly?

Don't worry about that. When you go up in a hot air balloon it doesn't feel like you're high up at all. In fact, it's so stable that it feels like you could step out of the balloon onto a picture postcard of the ground just a few inches below the basket.

I didn't do one of these deals, but I proposed to my now wife, several years ago, in a hot air balloon (I figure if she said no, I could throw her out of the basket)*. As other posters have mentioned, hot air balloon flights get cancelled *all the time* - I ended up getting the proposal flight aborted literally while driving down to it - twice. And on the day it almost didn't take off.

So, really be careful about your dates and times and be prepared to take off from different fields to the one planned at a different day and time to the one planned too - whether you go via this deal or some other.

It really is an unforgettable and brilliant experience.

* :-)

Felt this was really a national deal and not a local deal
#24
On another point - this may be a national "deal", but don't you pay a supplement for London flights, so in fact this is not much of a deal for the rest of the country locations?

A good price still though, as we paid £100 about 4 years ago. But waiting 18 months to take your flight... better service from British Airways and that's saying something!!!
#25
It sounds really good.. but I don't like sound of the waiting times... I dunno.. :/

Expired now...

All these posts have really helped me. I've just turned 21 and was looking into 2 companies to go in a hot air balloon with my money; 1 being virgin and another local one which states dates within the next 2 months which u can book. Thanks All

Offer still open in Statford Upon Avon.
If you select Birmingham, it's sold out but, if you select Coventry, it's still available - even though it's for the same takeoff locations (Stratford or Lutterworth).

Regards,
Mark.
