OneDrive sucks anyway. Douchey move on Microsoft's part...
I think it's brilliant. What upsets you about it?
Maybe it's changed since I used it, but I didn't like the clunky UI and lack of basic features, such as batch select + download. There's also a file size limit. I prefer Dropbox - it's only 2 GB to start with, but it's easy to rack up bonus lifetime storage.

What happens once the 2 years are up? I was thinking of wanting somewhere to store my pictures.

As I understand it..... Likely becomes read only at that point if you've filled it. You'd need to delete content (to take you below your entitlement) before being able to add anything new. Hopefully prices have also continued to drop in the next 2yrs.

Basing the above on the Windows Phone promo they did....

While we’re at it, this may be a good time for an explanation of what happens after that year of extra storage is up. The way it works is this: once your year (or whatever period) is up, all your stuff remains safe, and you can keep it on SkyDrive as a sort of archival storage. You can download, view, or delete files from SkyDrive. However, and this is somewhat important: until you get back to under your previous free limit, or pay for more storage, you will not be able to edit your SkyDrive files. At all. Useful if you’re storing music or files you’re not going to touch again, but do be careful of locking yourself out of the ability to edit your SkyDrive files. You obviously can’t upload files, either (even if you delete some number of GB that’s still puts you above your free or paid limit).

If you don't have 365 ... Don't moan ! look for some freebie that's suitable for you

Stupidest argument; you can use petrol even when you don't have a car.

Google + gives unlimited free storage with certain restrictions

Google+ Photos: Only photos over 2048x2048 pixels and videos longer than 15 minutes count toward your storage limit.

The storage limit refers to Google drive which is shared with Google + and gmail
Google Drive offers 100GB for $1.99 which is about £1.17.

They don't offer 200GB so I guess OneDrive is cheaper for that. If you need more storage though, you can get 1TB for £5.89 a month from Google. Depends if you need an extra 800GB and whether it's worth an additonal £1.90 per month extra to you.

You CAN import files to the iOS music librarys, but you need to have your phone jailbroke. Theres a few solutions on Cydia, "Bridge" and "MewSeek" are two that come to mind.
I'll probably stir up a hornets nest here but the title of this thread is slightly misleading...................
The way that I have Skydrive on my ipad is that I have the app syncing files between my NAS & PC & Ipad - and those files use the storage space on my ipad !
So effectively, if I wish to add Skydrive storage to my ipad, I have to go to Skydrive online (but not store items on my ipad ) and view / download from there - which effectively is "adding" storage - but not storing it on my ipad..............
you won't be able to sync changes back or save back to SkyDrive unless the individual app supports saving to SkyDrive. This is both a limitation of iOS and a product of SkyDrive's popularity relative to DropBox.
gazman321
I use Dropbox instead, works with almost any OS

Only 2gb free with Dropbox, also give 'The Box.net' a go, I have 50gb free from them, though I think it's been reduced to new subscribers

There are several apps that get music onto you're iPad. I use polkast on my ipad from my zyxel nsa310 which has 2tb drive in it.. It streams and stores any file accessed, locally on the device for playing when I want. Best using it over wifi as sending a blu ray rip over hspda works but a) it's slow b) it uses up a fair chunk of my 3gb per month tmobile allowance.
Seeing as I can access that from anywhere i have polkast installed i.e.work pc, ipod touch 4th gen, iPad 3rd gen and android phone then these deals aren't for me as I essentially have a cloud service with this

This looks clever, what's the £34.99 per year charge for? Also if your 3 TB harddrive develops a problem, you lose everything! oO

Why people are voting cold may have something to do with the T&Cs, as if you save copy right material, image collections, songs or anything you did not create if you paid for it or not they close the account and you loose everything, so if you want to save your music collection to share it across all your machines with ease is a no no even if you paid a small fortune to get the songs in the first place. So not a good easy way to back up or store files as you can really only back up a limit selection of items. Not voting but safe to say I did not like the service when I tried it as a way to back up my stuff.

I've started using SugarSync. 5GB on free plan. Sync by selecting folders. Download app which sits in tray and autosyncs files. Can share uploaded files.

same as dropox then although 5gb is damn good

This discuss above lets you do folders. Read the link posted, you select a folder, i.e. folders and it backs up all subfolders as well.

I use dropbox at the moment and highly recommend it. Been using it since it was in closed beta.

I am using a mac, is skydive compatible with macs? I know there is a web interface but what about mounting the drive?

Dave.

I am not a techy and have no idea. You could always try it and see or Google it?

I did have a look around before posting but doesn't seem to be anything.

Micrsoft don't advertise any mac support. I did read there is possibly FTP to the account which with a few bits of software could mount on the mac but not an ideal solution.

Shame cause the mac equivalent, mobile me, is £100 a year!

I use Skydrive to store some important files I might need to access away from home. It's always been reliable for me. 25gb sadly isn't big enough to house my photos as I have like 60+Gb because they are RAW images.

Offsite backup is always a good idea. This is free so I don't see what the complaints are.

MS Live Mesh is also very good. Still in beta but gives you 2gb storage currently (worth noting Skydrive didn't offer 25gb at first it was 5gb). Mesh allows you to sync folders and stores a copy online too. Extremely good for syncing say ya Favorites between work and home PC's etc. Mine syncs between 3 so I always get the exact same favorites.

Q: Why I can't copy a 400 MB file to my SkyDrive account?
A: The SkyDrive service currently offers 25 GB of free personal storage, with individual files limited to 50 MB. However, you can use the PRO edition of SDExplorer that supports files greater than 50 MB.
Can also use Winrar to split a large file into a set of smaller files

Q: Is it possible to map SDExplorer to a drive letter in order to work with my files from third-party file managers or backup tools?
A: No, the current version of the SDExplorer does not support such functionality. It will be implemented in subsequent versions of the SDE.
