Wharfdale! Lol.

Onkyo are the number 1 av amplifier brand in the UK. Wharfdale sold out ages ago (except for the speakers) and they are now cheap imports from China.

great price, just bought.. 279.99 at comet and that got quite hot...
loughboro guy u need to get a life mate....

Hot price -- just ordered, thanks. I got sick of waiting for the Pixmania £199+Del deal so that I could price-match with Richer Sounds, and the Amazon £279 deal for the better spec HT-S5305 is still out of stock.

Don't forget cashback... Quidco gives 3.5% and TopCashBack gives 3.53%.

Is this the basic model compare to S3305 and S5305?

It's exactly the same as the S3305, just slightly different branding (I think the only difference is that it has Onkyo written on the speakers or sub).

Looks like Amazon is just about to get the S5305 back in stock (due Dec.9th, can be ordered now) so if you want to pay an extra £50 for a powered sub instead of passive then there's an option.

Great price, was looking at the Pixmania deal which isn't in stock. This receiver is £200 alone, £30 quid for thespeakers is a bonus. Snapped it up instantly.

Yo ho ho - merry Christmas for me!

Specs: http://www.eu.onkyo.com/products/AVX-380.html

It appears that the only difference that i can see between this and the Onkyo HT-S3305 is that this model is HDMI 1.4a certified and the design and dimensions of the speakers are different.

HDMI 1.4a changes:

HDMI 1.4a was released on March 4, 2010 and adds two additional mandatory 3D formats for broadcast content, which was deferred with HDMI 1.4 in order to see the direction of the 3D broadcast market.[114][115] HDMI 1.4a has defined mandatory 3D formats for broadcast, game, and movie content.[114] HDMI 1.4a requires that 3D displays support the frame packing 3D format at either 720p50 and 1080p24 or 720p60 and 1080p24, side-by-side horizontal at either 1080i50 or 1080i60, and top-and-bottom at either 720p50 and 1080p24 or 720p60 and 1080p24.[115]

This uses a passive sub btw, the £280 model at amazon has an active (powered) sub which is better but £50 more.

This is £221.95 delivered after quidco. But this is basically the same and only £204 delivered after quidco: http://www.hotukdeals.com/deals/onkyo-5-1-ht-s3305b-home-theater-in/816894

Had my Onkyo for a year now. Absolutley superb. Does everything I ask of it. Never gone wrong. For the money its awesome. Thats coming from a Sony, who in my opinion, have lowered their quality a lot from their reputation in recent years.

To say you wont touch something has to be snobbery. Have a look at it, try it out and see the actual build quality of the unit. You will be surprised.

Cheers

Hi

In the market for a 5.1 surround.

Why is the amazon sub better than this one? Is it better sounding sub/bass? Or is there something else to it? Not sure what passive/active means...

Cheers
suspended 1 Like #22
passive means the power to supply the subwoofer comes from your amp. Active means the subwoofer has it's own plug. If using passive some of the power has to go to the sub instead of giving the satellite speakers all the power. Also the specs are often quite a bit higher on active subs. So yes the sound will be better and if you want to upgrade pretty much all good subwoofers are active so you can upgrade to pretty much any subwoofer you want in the future.

The bestbuy £204 after quidco is the best bang for buck sound system you'll find but if you can afford go for the amazon at £280 which will be a little better.

Thanks for that, appreciated -

There is however, a similar Onkyo in Comet that I checked out. £270. Got the tech guy out, threw a lot of questions and even got him to put it up to max volume in-store.

I wasn't impressed at all by the sound quality. Currently I have a Sony DVD 5.1 package, a basic model and it didn't sound better than that, so I'm a little reluctant.....

From my understanding, this should have blown the Sony out the water, hands down????

Any thoughts?

Maybe connected wrong in store?

LOUGHBORO GUY has ordered an Onkyo!!

He claims to have ordered 2 Onkyos from 2 previous similiar threads, and now this one too? how many does one need exactly? i think he is just saying he ordered it for comedy value. - either that! or he has a room full of boxed unused amps and av receivers.

Can you give a quick review on the system?

Whats the sub like?

I've heard it in the shops as stated a few posts earlier and were'nt impressed with it, but maybe it was set up wrong...

That was from 6 months ago and only for earlier versions, so the problem will probably have been sorted out for this stock. I've got mine arriving next week (from the Laskys deal) so the first thing I'll be doing is checking the serial number!
At worst it would require a firmware update to fix, no biggie for this sort of deal.

am i missing a code or something? price at 279.99 now.

can somebody give advice as to how i would connect this to xbox360, ps3 wii my tv and playon as they all use hdmi and this only has 3 inputs?
