Quite a bit cheaper than the Denon DM37, very tempting!

I'd like to know what the USB interface is like? What are its limitations with regard to the amount of files it will recognize?
#4
Below is a link to the user manual in pdf. USB info is on page 37.

This is a great little system, we bought one a couple of weeks ago from Richer Sounds for £159.99, so this is a great deal for a really good system.

Hello rlc7571, what speakers did you set it up with?
Superfi have it with the Tannoy Mercury F1 Custom for £244.63.

I have a TEAC CR-H255 mini USB system which is similar, I can heartily recommend the Mordaunt Short 920i Avant Speakers

Thanks for the post, after much deliberation, inspired by this post I went for this CS-325 instead at £129.99 delivered. I appreciate it's a refurb but it has the speakers and the whole ipod dock thing.

H&R added for the OP.

What's the main difference(s) between the two models please? Also if you've rec'd yours, what condition did everything arrive in? Thinking of ordering one of these for my Sisters upcoming birthday.

Lmk.

Thanks.

Cheekster.

P.S. Heat & rep added for OP

Hmm, i seem to be doing my bit for the economy.....

Ordered, to replace a 15 year old Panasonic mini system, which has a MP3 CD walkman and Matsui DAB tuner attached to it :-)

Wish they'd retained the optical input of the 515, only thing stopping me buying it. Will have to wait til the 725 comes down in price, 515's still fetch silly money second hand.

Good deal otherwise!
#13
No optical, no purchase.

I've got a 360 and a wii mate, want one to hook up to an HTPC via optical so not sure what you're on about?

I am the PS3 owner and I was saying no.

A defensive wee grey square faced mannie aren't you? ;)

I think the poster meant for A new ONE not for a new version. I think I would pay the extra £25 and buy from play - but I think I would want one with USB input to save me keep buring CDs so would go for the one in the OP.

It's not actually from Play, they're out of stock, it's from one of the people who sells through Play, although I'm probably being picky now!

Good system, but the Denons a fair bit better. I picked up the Denon with matching speakers in black for £200 last Christmas.

But electricals have gone up in price since then due to the weak pound so this is not a bad deal...
#26
anyone know what inputs this has? someone got a photo of the back of this system? want to see what connections are available with this.

2 sets of phono, 1 with recording outputs too (so you could connect back through to your telly as well if you wanted to feed it something like a Wii)

USB on the front, think it also has a 3.5mm jack on the front.

515 had far better connectivity if you're not fussed about that USB

Thanks for that. I take it doesnt have an optical input then? Might have to search out the Onkyo 515

No, hence mine and the other guys' posts. The 725 is newer and does have the input though, might be a bit more expensive mind.

yeh cheapest i can find the cr-725 is £200. plus it looks like it doesnt have the USB input

actually dont think the 725 has optical input either. just seen a photo of the back of it.

Correction: The cr-725 doesnt have optical in. but the cr-725DAB does
#32
The CR-725DAB = CR-725 UK model so not to worry on either front. The USB input is meaningless to me, it'll be like fighting in a sack trying to control it, and I'd rather just plug an ipod in with phono cables, or my pc via optical.

good point mate. usb will be a nightmare to use im guessing.

have you found the cr-725 any cheaper than £200?
#34
No fella, think Superfi were the best price i'd seen. The problem is that although it seems a good price it's a hell of a price jump just to get an optical, especially when you throw in the cost of some speakers (in comparison to the 325+speakers deal someone else mentioned).
#35
I'm currently looking for a Hifi to replace an ancient JVC unit which has just died. This Onkyo model is on my shortlist.

Best price I have seen for it with speakers is £199.98 at Hughes Direct:
http://www.hughesdirect.co.uk/showproduct.php?cda=showproduct&pid=ONK-CS525UK-BLACK or 3p cheaper at Richer Sounds (in store only) http://www.froogle.richersounds.com/product/mini-hifi-systems/onkyo/cs525/onky-cr525-blk
#36
HI all, how many inputs do these Onkyo's have?
I would like to have this under my TV for use with my XBMC and Cable TV Box.
#37
WOW!!! Just got this today and the build quality is AWESOME!!!

Its replacing a £400 Technics mini system but I reckon the Onkyo is better made, and the sound quality is fantastic!!! WHAT A BARGAIN!!! THANK YOU SO MUCH HOTUKDEALS!!!!
#38
I picked up the 725 for £200 and its built like a tank :D
#39
I've got the 525, good build and good sound. No problems playing from USB devices and iPods.
