Onkyo are like the posh Sony, basically, very nice price for this.

For some daft reason, Currys is not on QuidCo, so here's an alternative:

Got theses from Ibood last christmas and they were a steal then at around £156 delivered IIRC.

I can vouch that this is a superb little system. I run the sound from my lads cable box (stereo only) through it and it sounds great. You can also play MP3s direct from a usb stick.

H&R from me.

Very technical specification of the company  What is "posh" about Onkyo? They are just another in a long line of audio manufacturers that appear in high street shops

Feel free to google for yourself, if you compare Onkyo and Sony they have some similar/identical products depending.

I think you are missing the point! What is "posh" about Onkyo?! Not saying there is nothing wrong with the brand, however, they are another in a long line of audio manufacturers such as Denon, Onkyo, Marantz, Sony, Pioneer etc etc etc...if you want to talk "posh" in terms of audio then you would do better applying the term to high end audio equipment not found on the high street.

Actually Onkyo stuff isn't usually found in hi street Electrical retailers, usually only found in AV specialists.

This is the first time i've seen Onkyo in a DSG store.

Maybe they are box shifter's but the staff have more of a clue than any Currys/Comet etc..

I don't think so, was told 3 years ago after some clearance Mission speakers by a member of staff in the Birmingham branch that they had sold out and that they would not be having any more Mission speakers in as Mission were no more!

Oh I have seen Onkyo in Currys plenty of times in the bigger stores. Somehow doubt you will soon be seeing Arcam, NAD,Cyrus, B&W etc etc anytime soon in DSG.

I might get this for pappa, anyone know if this has am/mw radio on it?

Yes maybe they do - I have no qualms with RS - but they usually only sell discontinued stuff, bulk buys etc. I buy a lot of stuff there - but they are not 'specialists' - more generalists when you look at some of the tripe they have started selling.

I was being serious...some sites say it does have MW radio other sites don't mention it.

It has DAB/FM/AM

To be fair to Onkyo they do produce some fairly highish-end product... just because a company is a Japanese producer doesn't mean they can't compete with the Arcams and Missions of this world, some of which are decidedly mid-market themselves.

Link won't work for me??

I can assure you, Onkyo don't compete with Arcam :p

Just bought one of these from Superfi for £149.99 delivered free next day - really pleased with it, cracking little system ideal for the bedroom and now means I can wake up and fall asleep to DAB radio which is a massive bonus - but yes, you will need to find your own speakers and speaker cable! :-D

I bought one for £250ish last year and it is well worth the money. The speakers that come with it are pretty good although obviously you will get better if you spend more. They are certainly not worth binning and if that is what you are thinking of doing I'll pay postage and I'll bin them onto my system in the bedroom.

I think this stereo got the best sub £500 stereo award from what hifi a couple of years ago.

Will be much much better than a similarly priced Sony/Panasonic etc etc.
