This is £78 next cheapest (RS - who will price match) and is retailing at over £100 in other places. Highly acclaimed player. Superfi have had it at this price a while now but I guess some people are now looking for a new player (like me!). Available in black or silver.

The Onkyo DV-SP406 DVD player is ready for DVD, DivX, MP3 (both from disc and also via its USB port) and upscales video to full 1080p High-Definition, for the best playback of DVDs on High-Definition televisions.

This won What Hi-fi's best under £200 player for 2008.

October 2008 "Fine upscaled images, with motion handled particularly well; useful USB input", "The Onkyo's specification is comprehensive and on-screen menus are tidy and simple", "Very impressive pictures at the price: do you need any more from a budget player?"

October 2008 "The Onkyo DV-SP406 is the clear winner for your money", "Onkyo has created a truly excellent budget player. The SP406 has decisively the best picture quality here", "Our money is on the Onkyo...this is money very well spent".

Best DVD Player Under £200 "The level of detail on offer with the DV-SP406 is quite exceptional for the money", "Awesome upscaling at an affordable price", "it wipes the floor with the competition".

I have this 406, it has played scene, non-scene and corporate divx's without problem and came region free from RicherSounds.

Only one file it refused to play:
Death.Race.2008.UNRATED.BRRip.XviD.AC3-PRODJi

And I expect that was because it was a 2.2gb single file and it didn't have the power to evaluate/cache it properly.

Great price from RS - they had it for £99 last week, dropped it to £78 in the sale, price matched at £68 (but was out of stock) and is now showing at £65 online.

got one of these bundled with a onkyo 2.1 speaker thingy, its pretty good, only down side is a cheapy remote and a lack of a multi region hack (at the moment).

This is a great player, and a great price.

I still think this is a better deal though: http://www.hotukdeals.com/item/305616/toshiba-sd-580-multiregion-dvd-play/

It's also won widespread acclaim, and has USB connectivity, which the Onkyo does not.

The Onkyo has a front loaded USB connection.

Oh. Heh, well in that case, it's a great deal. Still £10 dearer than the Toshiba, but it does get better reviews, plus the Toshiba is out of stock now.
