i will be very interssted in this deal but i would like to hear some opinions about this system from experts...any opinions please?
#2
I see it has 4 HDMI 1.3a HDMI inputs and one output - nice but if you want to future proof for 3D it apparently needs v1.4.
#3
So I'm guessing I could go into my local PC world and get them to order one in from the warehouse?

Hot deal BTW

Did order an Onkyo TX-SR607 7.2 Channel A/V Surround Home Theatre Receiver from Play.
It was a little over £300. 7.2 channel. New spec 100 watts per channel.
Looked for ages for a decentr one. All the Onkyo on e-bay are older versions for the same sort of price.

Heres a LINK for spec.

Fwog

PS must have been a good deal. They've just bumped up the price to £400 !!

I would rather spend the money on separates.

Sony STRDH800 £249
Tannoy SFX5.1 £199

For £100 more you're getting proper speakers and an amp with 7.1 if you wish to add more speakers later. The Onkyo amp is IMHO over-priced at £239. (Although a silver one costs 219 from Richer.)

The speakers are the real problem though.. Look for reviews on HiFi forums of Onkyo's efforts at producing speakers.
Don't worry about 1.4 - there's going to be a betamax/vhs type war before 3D settles down, sometime in 2012.

why do all these products only cater for ipod!!

Ditto.....I have the Sony STR-DG820 and the Tannoy SFX 5.1 and it sounds amazing.
One thing to check if you are interested in this deal is to check whether it carries the audio via HDMI. The cheaper / budget amps only switches the video via the HDMI sockets. i.e. if you were to plug an Xbox or PS3 into the amp, you would have to connect HDMI for video, then use a separate optical lead for the audio. On the more expensive amps, you only need to connect HDMI.

If you can stretch a little more, go for the Sony H800 and Tannoy speakers.
#8
I'm contemplating on going for the Onkyo TX-SR607 and the Tannoy SFX 5.1 speakers.
#9
The amp is a very good AV receiver supporting Dolby TrueHD and DTS HD Master Audio for optimum Blu Ray playback but better speakers are required to do the system real justice IMO. Still - not bad for the price.

agree re: onkyo speakers, but their amps for the money are 2nd to none

How does it perform with playing music in stereo, ive been considering going for the 507 receiver but need something that handles movies and music as I dont have the space for a seperate stereo and av receiver.I dont expect it to perform on level with a similar priced hifi amp for music but if it does a decent enough job id be happy to purchase the amp.

I would love to get the HTX-22HD from Currys but it's too far from london. Will wait for a good online proce from somewhere..

I have this system it's petty wicked. I got it for like £320 from Peter Tyson http://www.petertyson.co.uk/ don't know the current price.

It's pretty amazing for the money but it doesn't switch the HD signal. So if you plug you xbox into the amp via compost then it won't output the signal via HDMI to the TV.

That said I don't use any of the HDMI ports on the amplifier, just run optical sound to the amp and Sky via HDMI strait to the TV.
#14
when did reciever's stop having built in radio tuners?, I thought that was what seperated a reciever from an amp?!
#15
I've had it for a little over a year now and I'm happy with my purchase.

I did brake it though because I constantly used to switch it on and off at the wall socket. They replaced it though under warranty.

Will Richer Sounds price match PC World, I'm almost certain they will?

Richersounds offer to beat all prices, so why didn't you get in touch with them?

They all have am/fm tuners built in even my lowley tx-sr307, some of the higher end onkyo units have dab and/or wifi radio built in

Cannot see this on the PC world site... has it expired aleardy ?
#20
Will they split the package so that you can just get the amp without the speakers for example?

Thanks
#21

It's not a reciever if it ain't got a tuner.
#24

I have these speakers with the Sony STRDH500 and it sounds great for a budget system.
Seems like a decent price for the bundle.

You can run the TV thru hdmi , and toslink cable from projector to this (for sound)

that's what I thought, but no mention of any tuner built in to this 'reciever', and if it only has am/fm, then it's a bit naff overall!!!

Not unless it strips off HDCP. To split HDMI generally isn't as simple as just copying the signal because usually it's encrypted. If you want to clone the output from a Sky+ HD or Xbox 360 or a Blu Ray player, then to answer the original question, YES, but it's a bitch of a job to do. You would need something that strips HDCP, such as the MUX-HD. http://www.curtpalme.com/MUX-HD.shtm

hi,just been to pc world and currys wednesbury as i only live a couple of miles away to buy one of these systems but the sales staff did not have a clue what i was talking about.in pc world they have a system set up with the 507 av and speakers but it is only a demo unit, yes you can buy the av system but it was £279 but you could not buy the speakers.
so went over to currys and asked same question and he looked at me like i was crazy????????
he said the only package we do with the txsr507 is with a set of kef speakers which totals £599.
just would like to add this post to save people a wasted journey?
steve.
