Better to get a known brand like wharfedale for £39.99: http://www.inest.co.uk/products/Wharfedale_HT400DAB_5_1_Home_Cinema_Integrated_DAB_Radio.asp

Wow that looks bad, what makes me laugh is that a new remote control costs the same as 25% of the system

Onkyo are a great brand, much better than Wharfdale, Wharfdale is just a brandname liscenced out & stuck on all sorts of Argos tat. Onkyo produce some fanstic quality hi-fi & is a steal in the UK as people still think stuff like Technics & Wharfdale is in some way better.

I used to work in a Hi-fi shop We used to sell an Onkyo Tuner & a NAD tuner, Onkyo made the tuner for NAD & it was exactly the same (but black), it was £50 cheaper, & had a 3 year waranty,( as aposed to 2 Years on the NAD) the NAD would fly off the shelf but the cheaper Onkyo never sold so well, simply because it was an Onkyo.

Voted Hot by me.

Every Onkyo must have a link to the infamous post, saves a lot Of bandwidth trying to explain ...

Wharfedale unfortunately licence their name to Argos, who put it on some real rubbish.

Wharfedale themselves do however still make some very good speakers.

Why they degraded their trademark, god only knows - presumably to keep the wolves from the door at some stage??

Was out of stock at Amazon by mid-day today.

Pixmania are also doing it for £279.99 and in stock... it's a shame that Richersounds don't carry this model as I'd go for a price match straight away.

The difference from the HT-S3305 seems to be that this has a powered sub, the sub has a better frequency response too. The other difference is that this has HDMI 1.4a instead of HDMI 1.4 and therefore has the standardised 3D spec that was added in 1.4a. I'm confused about the power output and dynamic about the subwoofer, see this thread i posted in for more details: http://www.avforums.com/forums/onkyo-products/1289671-difference-between-hts5305-hts3305.html

the 5305 has an active sub whereas 3305 is passive. Active is better

Good price, although don't expect excellent sound from this kit. A budget Onkyo AV receiver without any spakers is about this price. A budget set of speakers is about £200.

A good choice for someone heading into home cinema surround sound for the first time.

What is even more cringeworthy is the people who carry on posting this. The joke is 5 months old and already feels like 5 years.

Whatever happened to Loughborough Guy? As he has now become a folk hero/pundit/electronics expert on HUKD, I'd be looking for some advice as I'm in the market for a new telly.

I'm drawn to the Alba. What do you think Loughborough?

Nothing cringeworthy at all - I think it's funny. Each to his/her own.

Deal voted hot.

This is a great system.
I picked one up for £200 a little while ago at a one day PC World sale and it produces some amazing sound. It's also great for all of you setting up 3D systems since the unit has HDMI 1.4, fully 3D compatible.

You know I thought.....dare I look at this deal in fear of being overrun by unknown brand jokes as is with every Onkyo thread........

Can't we just now put it to sleep so that you don't get people thinking it's cool to be the first to post the same old comments. Then further comments trying to explain to people that actually it is a joke from a long time ago!

Rant over sorry

I disagree.

I think a better solution would be to have a badge for posting the first joke LOUGHBORO GUY
comment of the Onkyo thread. Then we could also have a section of the help pages dedicated to an explanation.

btw ordered this and voted hot.

I love this Onkyo joke! :D

It also brings a lot of joy -all the most repeated jokes do- to people like me who find it amusing. Yeah, it ain't much but it's the best humour ever on this site.

So for all the people saying "stop" -please don't post because you're just whingeing and wasting the joke.

Makes this place seem a bit more human too.

Don't let them get o you Fujioka. They are just Joke Brand Snobs. They would be happy with a running Sony joke. ;)
