ONKYO TX-SR506 7.1 AV Receiver £170.00 Delivered

I know there are better AV Receivers but for this price you can't go wrong, 3 HDMI inputs (without HD sound) and 7.1 will output at 1080P with 2 digital optical and 2 digital coax. £50 cheaper than anywhere else I can find. I ordered one last week and it was delivered within a couple of days and available in black or silver.

Wow! Incredible price! Sizzling hot! But maybe people prefer to go for the TX-SR-606?

Agreed but that is at least £200 more. This is more for a beginner, I will hopefully upgrading from this next year to a 606 if cash allows.

I have one of these hooked up to my Canton CD102s (previously had a very good pioneer receiver). Absolutely superb for the price and I got it for a bargain £210 around 2 months ago.
#5
I've got it hooked up to some Yamaha NSP 110's and it even makes them sound good, I upgraded from a Yamaha RX-V359 and the difference is out of this world, very easy to set up with Audyssey mic provided. They did have a ex demo 875 for £499 last week as well but I couldn't stretch that far and has sold now.

Sounds like a good plan. I have the 606 and its amazing for what I paid for it but 506 is a very good starter amp
#7
does this do hd sounds?
#8
No,you need to spend a few bob more for true hd via the hdmi .This is still a nice bit of kit for the price though.
#9
Reviews here if anyone is interested: http://www.testfreaks.com/receivers/onkyo-tx-sr506/ looks pretty good for the price.
#10
For the price. This can't be beaten. Great entry level home cinema.

For a beginner? Puzzling. How can someone be a beginner at seeing and hearing? You buy what you can afford and get the best for your money!
#12
Unbelievable price! I paid £225 for one of these second hand just a couple of months back!

Absolute bargain at this price. The 606 adds very little - just more HDMIs and a little more power, really.

EDIT: Ooops! Mistook it6 for a 605 in the rush

The z5500 are good, no where near as good as a home cinema system with amp, and real speakers.

Am i right in thinking this doesnt have a subwoofer output ( amped ?)

it only states it has a sub pre-out........my sony sub is passive....
#20

son of a!!! I have the 505e and paid 200 for it, that is an awsome amp, I'm sure this one is even better. and for only 170 what a bargaiin!!!
#24
such a shame about no audio via HDMI..:(
#25
If you want the amp that does do it all it has to be the Sony STR-DG 820 which is around the £240-250 mark.4hdmi inputs ,true hd etc...etc...The Tannoy EFX speaker package is also excellent. The combination is nothing short of stunning. At 6.1 though it is worthwhile shopping around for that extra sat speaker for that 7.1 expierience.

good price, shame the 606 isnt on offer:(

The Sony is superb for the price but probably worth paying the extra £50 for the Yamaha DSPAX763 @ richersounds!!

I was going to go for the efx package but just found them too ugly and decided on a set of Canton Movie60cx speakers instead....
#28
A set of Tannoy EFX 6.1 can be sourced for £118 @cpc .Now then superal how much more do we need to pay for the more aesthetically pleasing Cantons?
#29
Bargain. I would have gone for this if I hadn't bought a hifi amp last month...

My opinion is that the first jump from TV speakers only to surround sound set up using amp and speakers is AWESOME.

Subsequent upgrades (better amp or better speakers) gives an improvement, but not as earth-shatteringly noticeable.

I have a lowly JVC 5.1 amp, and the EFX speakers discussed earlier, which sounds great to me, a friend of mine has an Onkyo (not sure which model) and a KEF speaker set-up and it definitely sounds better - but not MASSIVELY better.

I know that it is easy to get carried away with this type of thing, but I do think this amp is a great beginners model that when coupled with a decent set of speakers will sound great. I don't think it offers enough to upgrade to though.

Hope this opinion is not too contentious.

These ones would go pretty well with it:

SS-F6000http://http://www.play.com/Electronics/Electronics/4-/3317372/Sony-SS-F6000-4-Way-Floor-Standing-Speakers/Product.html?cm_mmc=Froogle-_-Electronics-_-Speakers-_-Sony%2BSS-F6000%2B4-Way%2BFloor%2BStanding%2BSpeakers&source=5065&engine=froogle_electronics&keyword=Sony+SS-F6000+4-Way+Floor+Standing+Speakers

I've not heard them myself, but they seem really good value and have had very good reviews recently. Has anyone had any experience with them? They will match my STR-DG820 amp. Ideally i wanted the mission e34 floor standers, but they are slightly out of my budget at the moment...
#32
interested but it doesn't say if they are actually in stock or not....sent them a message to find out

Why not get it cheaper through Richer Sounds?

http://www.richersounds.com/information.php?cda=static&cst=pricebeat

so what did they offer you then? I'm guessing you mean price match or something since they are selling it for £249.95

I have this amp hooked up to 4 tangent evo speakers and a tangent centre speaker. bought from richer sounds after some ood advice from the guys that work there,
http://www.richersounds.com/productlist.php?cda=productlist&sort=price&search=tangent+evo&feature=&manufacturer=

Sound is fab, really fills the room. we origionally started off with just the centre speaker and a right and left, but next Pay day was back buying another 2 for back speakers.

you cant go wrong with these and at £99 a pair - bargin:-D
#38
erm, that would be good advice... :)

Yes granted the cantons are £165 but they come in black which was the real deal breaker for me...

Does anyone know how this compares to a pioneer vsx-1017 ?
