I have a Denon 3803 AV Amp. Its a few years old and was expensive back in the day.
Can anyone advise if its worth replacing with this Onkyo to gain HDMI inputs?

nice amp, i picked the 308 up last month but sold it on as the lack of audessy calibration microphone ment i couldnt set up the proper tone for my speakers (unlike my 307). This one has it though so hot!

Cheaper on Amazon Germany. Cold.

I've got the old 507 model.
beats all my old amps, power great, price great, hdmi inputs great... I'm a sony fan, and would not buy a sony amp over this for the same price.
#13
Have the 607, endless joy listening to blue ray on surround (and radio, recommends a 7:1 set-up)

LOL....people these days, once upon a time, not too long ago back in the 1980s, quite a lot of electrical appliances bought from shops did not come fitted with a moulded plug on them, you had to purchase a plug separately.

Is it really that hard to use a pair of scissors, cut the european moulded plug off the unit and rewire a UK Plug on it? Or failing the incompetence of being able to do that, just utilise a EU-UK Plug converter? Mainland EU and UK voltage is the same.

Would you really want to buy this new and start cutting wires to get it working ?? Then find it doesn't and send it back to germany with a void warranty cos you cut the wires , is that worth the £10 difference .

Sadly the GF wants a Sony DN1000 and a DN1000 only, has to be Sony and has to be shiny black. So my options are somewhat limited!

I would not think changing the plug on the end of the wiring would invalidate the warranty, as already stated you would not have to anyway if you used a plug adapter.

However, if there is only a £10 saving, and the warranty lies in Germany, then it would not be worth it.

Bought one myself the other day for this price also with 2 yr warranty .
Great amps -had my 706 for around 3 years with no problems at all .
They only overheat only if you shove them in little spaces !!!
Mine is in an open cabinet and never had a problem -thats why i have bought another for upstairs !
They do not have the audessy calibration microphone on the 308 otherwise i would have bought that -this was only £60 more and a better amp.
Cheaper on Amazon Germany -hope you don';'t have a problem -its heavy to send back and if you have messed with the plug it will invalidate the warranty anyway -not worth it for a few pounds !

It's more than likely to void the warranty I'm afraid. We ordered a big AEG freestanding fridge/freezer and the moulded plug had got damaged in transport. I rang up the supplier and they said that I could either wait for AEG to send an engineer to replace the whole loom with plug, or cut the cable and fit my own plug, but void any warranty. In this day and age, this is likely to be a standard policy of most manufacturers, so it's really not worth voiding a warranty for the sake of £10.

How about getting a new gf?
#29
Sounds like there's quite a few on here that have never experienced the two minute job of fitting a plug that some of us had to do routinely once upon a time.
#30
would people recommend this reciever over the sony strdh810 which is available for around the same price at richersounds?

http://www.richersounds.com/product/av-receivers/sony/strdh810/sony-strdh810
#31
If Richer Sounds price match you should be able to get this for £259.90 as they knock an extra tenner off if beaten on price.
#32
It is a good deal (by a few quid) but i do worry that these are EOL and will soon be replaced by something every better for much the same money

Have a look at some of the Pioneer AVR's, much nicer to look at than the Sony and generally better bits of kit too.

Super amp, very hot deal. Onkyo make some outstanding amps, stuff Sony :p

I have and use sony seperates but i use an onkyo receiver TX-SR806 and the sound is much better than from my sony receiver both of which has multiple HDMI inputs and outputs.

Why cut the plug when you can put an adapter on?

Euro to UK plug
