WhatHiFi Product of the year 2010.

Exceptional AV are running a 2 day special clearance, go to their site, add this to your basket and enter the code: 608299 on checkout.

I've used Exceptional AV in the past and they were great.
This is cheaper than a lot of 2nd hand & refurbished units.

EDIT: Cheapest delivery option is £2.99 but as I understand it's reset to free when you pay for the receiver.

Now EVEN cheaper!!!

In b4 Sony.

Why do these surround amps (OK, I know it's why they are called receivers) still all have an FM tuner on? Anyone looking for separates like this would virtually always prefer a dedicated tuner (if they wanted radio) and have less unnecessary electronics in the box.

Surround 'amp-only' units are always miles dearer. I've had various receivers for 15+ years and I've never even connected the antenna. Seems like they all make them receivers out of habit.

Hot deal BTW.

You should shop around and get a decent Sony for a similar price rather than this unheard of brand

I love Onkyo sound, a lot of people don't - I guess you need to listen to both to appreciate the differences in SQ. I wouldn't get either if I were buying right now, I'd get the Yamaha 767 as I need 2 HDMI out ports. One for the TV and another for projector.

I have the TX-SR876. This 608 was 400 in jan so a good price even though is not that powerful. Good for medium range speakers.

If you want a more powerful one at an affordable price, get the models from 2 years ago (and if you don't need 3D)..they are the same price and at the top of the range.(if you find any)

Onkyo unheard of in home cinema, think you'll find they easily out sell anything Sony have to offer.

Is there a link for the ignorant among us who still don't get why these things are hundreds of pounds compared to the old 80's style separate amps that were about 50 quid years ago? What exactly do these DO? :/

Not sure if this is a serious post but if it is; here's a link: http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/AV_receiver

Also, as I seem to gather (I'm not that old) that good quality AV receivers or amp's used to be much more expensive in the past (say 6-8+ years ago)

I remember paying some £200 pound for an ok Sony amp some 20 years ago (my god I am old!), so if you count in inflation etc. this is about the same price. So not sure what the problem is?
#35
you can connect 2 subwoofers to this rig, I think

pleased to see you can hook up an AM aerial. that would have been a dealbreaker otherwise

Never heard of HDMI. You should go for a well-known standard like SCART.

Wish I could justify the upgrade (to the wife). HOT!

The HDMI board that will fail shortly (As it does on almost all 606's) then you will have one :-)
