I know this receiver was posted a week or so ago, but it seems Richer Sounds have now knocked £20 off:

Info from RS's website:

Perhaps the most outstanding feature about this budget Onkyo AV receiver is that it comes equipped with HDMI 1.4 specification, making it the first, reasonably priced receiver that's compatible with the exciting new 3D TV. Even without this advanced feature, the TX-SR308 is still ahead of the game. The latest and most powerful processing has always been at the heart of Onkyo's receivers, and the TXSR308 is no different. It will handle high-definition lossless audio codecs from Dolby and DTS. This high resolution surround sound processing makes it the perfect partner for Blu-ray with all the potential for audio excellence this source provides.

It's not just the processing power but quality, too that makes Onkyo receivers stand out. Burr-Brown 192/24 DACs for all channels, an advanced 32-Bit Processing Chip and a high power transformer help to give the TXSR-308 class-leading sound quality and an equally impressive 85 watts power output.

This may be the baby of the Onkyo range but, when it comes to connecting up, there's a surprisingly comprehensive range of sockets - as good as any mid-range receiver from just a year or two ago. Three HDMI inputs and an output let you route your Blu-ray, digital TV and games console through to the TV. Added to this are a wide range of other sockets including twin component inputs for older DVD players and three digital audio inputs. Also, there's Onkyo's unique and flexible Universal Port. Match to Onkyo's optional iPod dock or DAB+ tuner modules and you've got even greater entertainment potential.

Finally, one of the features we like most about the Onkyo AV receivers is how easy they are to set up. A new, overlaid On-Screen Display makes adjusting settings straight-forward while the simple menu logically takes you through the fine-tuning of your system.

We've always liked the Onkyo range of AV receivers but with the TXSR308, Onkyo have excelled themselves. Budget home cinema doesn't get any better than this!

A better one was 180.00 yesterday through amazon.

Cold for me as they will be coming down a lot now that the 2010 stocks are coming out.

And no True HD audio, from what I can see.

This is the 2010 model, was only released a few weeks ago. It does have True HD according to Onkyo's website:

http://www.eu.onkyo.com/products/TX-SR308.html

I agree with you on the 507 deal yesterday though, I left it too late so may go for this one now.

Good deal

I bought it 3 days ago at RS for 249 :x

Main feature I needed was HDMI passthrough at standby. Works fine with Sky HD box but can't make it work with PS3 (have only vision on standby)

Does the 507 do this?

In answer to the pass through. If it's anything like my Yamaha amp, it can only pass through one input at a time. For my Yamaha I have to turn it to the input I want passed through and then switch the amp off. It passes through signal from the input it was last on. It may be the same with the Onkyos.

What happened to that thread yesterday on the Onkyo at £179 - can't find it, or the deal.

Might be tempted by this though, video and sound passthrough on standby is also key for me. I want to be able to just watch telly if I want to without having all the speakers kicking in.

I looked at this - ended up buying a Sony from Richer Sounds for £229 - no pass through but HD sound and far better reviews online... so far more than impressed with it as well - hooked up to some Jamo speakers from RS as well..not hot from me as found better kit (imo) for same price.

If you couldn't see it in the listings then you might have it set to hide expired deals. Do this in the main listing.

1) Just above the green voucher finder box is a "Show tools" with a + button next to it

2) Click the + to show the tools

3) Make sure it says "Excude expired" in the view options on the left. If it doesn't say that then click "Include expired" so that it does

Without a sub this would probably sound worse imo well worth upgrading to new speakers and sub to benefit from this amp

Been using this amp with onkyo speakers and it sounds awsome. Had PS3 XBOX etc.. running throught it fine. Carries audio and vision through HDMI with no lag. Hot even though i wanted another one for my bedroom yesterday for £180!!

You might want to consider this -

http://www.richersounds.com/product/1-box-home-cinema-systems/onkyo/hts3305/onky-hts3305-blk

Same Av receiver but with a 5.1 Speaker package.

I picked this up at RS last week and it's awesome.

Plays true HD as well as DTS HD and master.

Speakers alone should be 170 quid.....
#22
just a heads up, this doesn't have the Audyssey speaker calibration feature so you need to do it manually.

I bought that over the Onkyo after reading several reviews of both - very impressed with it - has calibration tool as well, only thing the Onkyo had over it was a pass thru on HDMI.. personally would go with the Sony as people are buying this it seems just on the label/reputation as opposed to actually reading reviews and comparing that way.

That looks good. Does it upscale component, etc so I have all connections going in and only 1 hdmi coming out?

If your amp has no Component inputs, then just bypass it - connect the Component video from your XBox 360 directly to your TV.
You can then connect the XBox 360's Optical Audio Output to the Amp, for 5.1 Dolby Digital sound.

It's ok, upon reading the manual I discovered that you can re-assign the components inputs on the back of the receiver to be whatever you like.

Being a AV Receiver n00b, I was just worried that it said "DVD" and "SAT/CBL" only on the back of the component inputs.

thanks for the reply though
