Hacked to death :whistling:

Yes be careful !! This boxset has been badly/poorly edited for some bizarre reason.

Yep cut out a lot of scenes annoying voice over for the laughing. Its made the episodes that are edited worthless to any fan.

I'd find R1 disc that arn't cut.

I also got this for my Christmas - have watched a good few episodes from it already, love Only Fools. Some will moan about the edits, which is a shame, but for £30 this is a steal! There is hours and hours of laughter on this!
#9
Shame about some of the edits, but for £30 its a bargain.
#10
Can I ask which tesco store it was you bought it??
#11
Why would they edit these? I know some of the early ones weren't terribly PC but surely not bad enough to be censored?
#12
Anyone know of a boxset that hasn't been edited? :)

It's more to do with rights issues around music.
#14
R1 is also cut, but not as much as R2.
#15
Unless you are a mega OFAH fan, you ain't gonna really notice the edits. Mega HOT deal:thumbsup:
#16
Last time I looked in Asda the fools and horses box set they sell does not include the specials!

i have the full set on VHS that are not edited, collected them from Britannia videos,1 every 2 weeks at £10.99 each.. Was a few years back, but still got the full collection..
#18
Hot from me

Does this include every single episode made on telly.

Is 30 pound a good price how much are they usually?

Most cuts date back to the initial VHS releases starting in the early 1990s and were often made due to licencing issues of the music played in the background. Licensing was done separately for broadcast and then, often at a much later date, home video. This meant that sometimes the music granted for use in the broadcast was later refused for use in the home video release.

Some of the edits were made subtlely by replacing music, but some were made by removing entire conversations or even scenes. These edited versions are still the only versions available on DVD today.

In the late 2000s, changes in UK music licensing arrangements (also known as 'blanket licensing' deals) meant that music previously replaced for BBC DVD releases (such as the initial release of Doctor Who - Remembrance of the Daleks) could now be reinstated as originally broadcast. However, the BBC would first have to re-submit the episodes to the BBFC to be classified, so effectively although the law has changed, the BBC would still have to formally re-release any relevant episode, and could not simply quietly substitute the already existing DVDs on the shop shelves.

The currently available range of Only Fools And Horses DVDs often carry disclaimers such as on the reverse of The Complete Collection which states, 'For contractual reasons certain edits have been made.' Similar disclaimers can be seen on the reverse of To Hull and Back, Mother Nature's Son, Fatal Extraction and Heroes And Villains. However, there is sometimes no disclaimer where the DVD is known to have been edited.

The one I looked at in Tesco for £30 didn't have the specials.

Can someone absolutely confirm that this boxset does contain the specials, because I don't want a wasted journey tomorrow. Thankyou:)

I've voted hot on price but while I would really love to buy this set, the fact that it's cut still puts me off. All the time they keep re-packaging and reselling the cut versions they are saturating the market leaving very little room for the commercial viability of releasing the proper versions.

Well seeing how this year we had new Remastered versions of Fawlty Towers and Blackadder, I can't see it being too long before a definitive version of OFAH are finally released.

I may be wrong but i thought remastered versions just offered better sound and picture quality and perhaps added extras, not that they necessarily added scenes that have been cut for any reason.

will take a look in my local tomorrow, they did have the complete (edited!) box set pre christmas for £60 so hopefully they have one left

I am not saying remastered equals new scenes, but a new set would OK it being unedited at last.
You see the thing is now that the rules around the use of music in TV have changed, there is no reason that if the set is released again why it can not be in it's original form, it just needs to be resubmitted to the BBFC for approval again like with any release. The most up to date boxset which is this one was released in 2006, so 2010 could be the year for another release (fingures crossed).

I saw it in the Chichester branch this afternoon

*Sigh* all the comments about cuts again, what a surprise.
If you complain about cuts in this, then you shouldn't bother buying 90% of all DVD's as pretty much everything is cut somehow.
#30
Hot price - only downside heavily edited out lines/scenes

I find it really silly when people complain about other people discussing something on a discussion board. Plus you are exagerating a lot there.

Well it get's annoying when people say don't buy this DVD set as it's cut, when there is no uncut DVD boxset of OFAH available to purchase.

christ all mighty how cheap can this get. An amazing deal!

I have this, watched it last year... fantastic boxset. As far as I could tell only one episode is a bit messed up from the cuts, the rest to a "normal" fan is hardly noticeable. This boxset was a bargain for the £70 I paid in Zavvi closing down sale , great deal for this price. ( Remember to take a break after watching the end of the 1996 trilogy as that was the shows TRUE end ... last three specials should be seen as kind of poor "alternative endings")

I second that comment, some people seem to be a bit a**l when it comes to this box set.

if you have only seen them on UKGold (which is the majority of people) then £30 is well worth it.

i brought this box set about 2 years ago when I used an amazon code to get it down to £60 and I enjoy it every time I watch it
#37
Confirmed a few minutes ago as being £40 NOT£30?????? :x
#38
So the ones that i watch on G.O.L.D have they been edited from the original versions?
#39
Yes I am in store now and have a copy in my hand right now which I priced checked at £40. It was in the same cardboard stand with other boxsetd and had a label on the shelf of £60, none were showing the sale prices, they have a list on the top of the stand with all the boxset prices which shows the same price they were before Christmas.

They do also have just the series boxset with the price listed as £30 so this must be the one the OP had seen. I don't know what this one scans at but presumably it's been reduced too.

I'm still getting this complete box as it's still a good deal

Expired due to incorrect price, confirmed by myself and other member.
