It does.

Cool - the cheapo Tesco Teknica dvd player is £17 something, but doesn't have USB.
I presume if it can play divx, it can also play xvid? (Are those two codecs synonymous?)

The 15 bar Onn expresso machine I bought last year is fantastic, if that's any yardstick for their dvd players......?
#5
Good price that, suppose comes down to performance and reliability but I've always found that Asda will take anything back without a problem if it does go wrong.
#6
These went down to £20 about 6 weeks ago in Asda Havant and vanished off the shelves almost overnight (before I could get one).

They've never had any more in and it looks like this model has been discontinued since there's no shelf space or SEL anymore, and other Asdas I've checked don't stock it either, so grab it while you can.

DVD players with USB ports are becoming as rare as rocking horse p** in supermarkets these days.

Megamart.

got one of these when they did the "vat free" electronics weekend for about 17 quid... plays divx/xvid from USB (not portable external HD)

struggles playing xvid when water is ok the screen.... is weird! jumps for a few seconds then goes normal, mustn't be able to process it. other than that, great piece of kit!

HOT, will check out ASDA later today!

Yep, but it can take a few minutes to read the video from your usb stick before it starts to play it. Apart from that it's great.
I got my Dad one of these from Asda just before Christmas for the same price and it's well worth £20. If you've got a HDTV I'd recommend getting a HDMI cable with it. Think they were about £5(ish) for a short one when I got it.
#10
do these work with any external hard drives?

hello all btw!
#11
as mentioned in the titles does this have a hdmi connection on the back or were you refering to hd compatability ???

hdmi refers to the connection socket
#12
at lidl they have HD 1080p upscailing ones for £20 built in card reade and front usb ports
i got 2 from reading ( they are no on display u have to ask, some stores still have them )
#13
is this in northern ireland asda stores too?
#14
sorry for not being clearer :)

i was asking whether the player could play media off an external hard drive using the usb port
#15
HOT, nice find, lad..!
#16
thanks
#17
would this play hi res divx's as HD over HDMI on a HD tv?

Same question here - does this have HDMI output for digital-digital connections? If yes, then hot from me , if not then title is very misleading :?.

Cheers!
#19
hot!, now if only more players could come with HDMI as standard we will be in business
#20
Should play off an external hard drive IF the hard drive has its own power source e.g. is also plugged into the mains.

Its a bargain - a few mates have them and swear by them
#21
If the image posted is of the item, it says HDMI on it, which would mean it has a HDMI port.

As for supporting high definition content, I'm unsure. Assuming you had a high definition Divx file, I'd expect the quality to be there!

No stock in Asda Benton - Boo!
#23
Seems like its identical to this from 5 months ago: http://www.hotukdeals.com/item/283098/asda-onn-dvd-player-with-usb-hdmi-d/

Some of those posts report a) problems with USB hard drives being recognised b) issues with different region discs and c) awful remote, needing to be right close up to use d) potential build quality issues.

But, on the plus side, it does seem to have HDMI output! :-D
#24
does it have vga out? some hdmi dvd players have vga out. been looking for one. cheers

Got one last time around

USB is a bit of a pain, reads from mem stick but has to be root directory, wont open folders, in fact wont display them,

couldnt get it to work for my external harddrive either, so i just use it for the stuff that the PS3 wont play
#26
None in Rotherham's ASDA this evening. Had to console myself with a 5kg bag of briquettes for £3.47 instead.

I believe your external drive has to be FAT32 and not NTFS to be recognised

Yeah, I got mine in Asda at Yorkgate/Cityside but it was the week before Christmas so I don't know if they still sell them over there

As for the other things, I've tried 3 different usb sticks and they all worked (4gb Sandisk cruzer micro, 4gb Play.com stick & a 8gb PNY Attache). Haven't tried an external hard drive but I don't see why it wouldn't work. No problems with the remote control either.

HD divx files work fine, so do mpeg2 files (if you use a tv card / pvr to record programmes).

South woodham Ferrers and Rayleigh (Essex) none - did have an Onn DVD player for £30 tho with similar spec...
#31
Looks suspiciously like my el cheapo chinese branded DVD player I have. Wouldn't recommend watching DivX videos though USB as it tends to stutter a lot (unlike the playback on our PS3). But voted hot because of price..

if this is the Onn sw2411a-divx model the same as last time round, mine has no issues whatsoever with USB playback and it will happily open folders to at least three levels deep (not tried any more than that!).
absolute bargain at the time for around £17.
would happily buy another at £20.

Since most people like to just plug in and play their content I don't see many doing this. For the inconvienece of a few minutes unpacking every single video file you could just maybe buy a better player?

I noticed this Onn SW2411A yesterday and bought it to replace my old Yamada (its currently selling at £24 in our local Asda by the way). It seems to work great as stated by the other poster. The instructions stated that the USB port was 1.1 and only supported MP3 but it does play back Divx. I was wondering if it also supported USB Drives. Has anyone tried that or know if it would support them?
Quoted from one of the posts from AV Forums, so it being only USB 1.1.. I'm guessing its either a transfer problem - due the player not being able to handle the bitrate of the files its playing (therefore stuttering every few minutes or so) or a firmware issue.

Great machine - I picked up two for about £17 each in the "vat free" promotion a while back. One didn't work (would play dvds but not avis) but I got a refund despite having lost the receipt. Would've gotten a replacement but they had none in stock, so I bought the same model again from another branch.

Has played everything I've thrown at it - which is quite a lot of films.

As intimated above, it will play files from external HDDs, so long as they're FAT formatted. If it's a 3.5" drive it'll have it's own power source. If it's a 2.5" drive that draws it's power from two USB devices you'll either need a second USB source near the player or buy an adapter. And of course it's more than happy to play from disk or USB flash drives.

Yes it will play from USB Hardrive it just takes a while to read the disc I have had this model since before Xmas as a stop gap till my Xbox 360 was repaired.
#39
It is PI$$ poor at starting in the correct aspect ratio when playing DIVX-XVID files that was mine only complaint about it.
#40
can anyone who owns this tell me if it can play mp3 and wave burned onto a DVD? (most can play these formats from CD, but I'm interested only in DVD)

cheers
