so does that mean that its set for region 2 only? if you're in the UK?the early (cheap) dvd players would play any region at all before the multinationals worked out more ways to screw us and monkeyed with their circuits

R2 stamp on rear. Reliability not good so far. 1st, remote not working (or remote sensor on player), replacement player, no splash screen, no 'action' via remote, no o/p via composite plus audioLR.

The 'manager (???)' reckoned the remote wasn't covered under the guarantee and to phone for a replacement. WHAT RUBBISH!!!

I want to send it abroad to a relative in a R1 area who can't play PAL DVDs so this is bad! Pity as the PSU is 100-220v, ideal for sending overseas.

Price now £14.97.
Just what I needed.
Checked out ... played Region 1 DVD, Region 2 DVD, Region 3 DVD and VCD no problem.

Automatically played discs i.e. didn't need to enter a code with remote to make region free.

P.S. Does not come with scart lead supplied, although there is a scart socket. However, it does come with a RCA (red, white & yellow) connection lead (both ends) in the box.

Hi all,

I have just puchased this dvd player priced at £12.97 ... great price !

It is working just fine but so far most of my dvds (except for one) play in widescreen format.
My old dvd had a function where you could change a widescreen picture to full screen, but I can't seem to find that option on the remote.
I have looked in the instruction manual but can't find anything relating to it.

I have checked the tv type settings and it is set to 4.3, which I believe it the right setting.

Any help appreciated.

Do you ever have anything positive to say, all you seem to do is criticise deals and mock people.

Set it to "cinema" and fills screen nicely.
As mentioned before, remote is dodgy but otherwise works fine straight from box. Played my CD-Rs fine and DVDs. What more could you ask for at £13?

Aspect ratio options seem to be only available with no DVD loaded. The first 2 players were faulty, the 3rd seems OK so far.

If I were in the market for a dirt-cheap DVD player, I'd prefer to pay just that little bit extra for a brand name such as the Philips that Richer Sounds are selling for £19.99.
