When did they go away? To be honest I never missed them... I thought they just changed name to Starburst.

They've re-released them for a limited time period, and they are in the original flavours - strawberry, orange, lemon, lime...

Why change a really good name like marathon, a global word understood in many countries to something meaningless like snickers :(

Agreed, at least the Twix survived the attempt to change it to 'Raider'.

Recent Starburst have had a more plasticky taste than the old Opal Fruits, probably cheaper manufacturing or cutting down the sugar or something. I'll be interested to see if these limited editions with the lemon flavour back are any better.

All I need now is Pacers to come back and I'll be very happy.

Bit of info about it here... http://www.dailymail.co.uk/pages/live/articles/news/news.html?in_article_id=563045&in_page_id=1770

An asda exclusive.. suppose it depends if they sell well it maybe a permanent comeback

Snickers was actually the name of a horse owned by 'Mr Mars' - and no, that isnt a joke! The Mars company was founded by a bloke called 'Franklin Clarence Mars', who had a horse called 'Snickers'.

Imaginative they obviously wern't! :P

Didn't they get banned in the UK by the food commission?

But yeah, Selfridges have them as the other person said, £7 a box.
#30
Yeh, Starburst ARE Opal Fruits. They must just be re-trying the name.
#31
Had to do a double take on OP's post. I certainly don't remember "Coarse Grain Mustard" or "Extra Special Chocolate and Chilli Marinade" flavoured Opal Fruits. :-D
#32
Well I won't rest easy in my bed until they bring back Spangles!

A re-release of Nutty bars wouldn't go amiss either....

> Could these be old stock

No. This is a limited run for Asda in the original flavours and product name. Just for a few weeks as I recall.

As opposed to Starburst, which are strawberry, orange, lemon, lime? :p
#36
I vowed never to set foot in asda again but this may twist my arm, might try and go via their fuel kiosk or something. Could never understand why they introduced blackcurrant and merged lemon/lime!
suspended#37
What an absolute marketting ploy. Voted cold.
#38
I didn't see the point in re-branding it Starburst. Opal Fruits just had a great ting to it. Makes your mouth water.
#39
It was announced in April 2008 that Starburst would be reverting back to the original name of Opal Fruits due to popular demand. These will be available from late May for a period of 12 weeks, exclusively at Asda.[2]
