Looks like a really good game. Hope it lives up to its hype and doesn't disappoint.

I read an article about the scale of the maps on this and they're immense at around 35 miles.

Awesome.

Hot from me.

I'm not a COD fanatic by any stretch of the imagination, but releasing just one month in advance looks like a suicide mission.

£29.93>£24.99>£19.99 by Dec?

Having played the original all those years ago I know it's not trying to directly compete, but I just can't see this game meeting expectations. Is there a demo on the horizon? How many players can actually fill the expansive maps?

220KM²

9.5 hours to walk it, 20 minutes to cross in the fastest jet :p

Time to cancel my ShopTo pre-order

Does seem a bit daft with the release date I agree..

Can't see it dropping by that much though (£19.99) I can see it will stay lower to try and get new people into it but those who played the PC version should jump on it.

Console version will have 4v4 Players in MP with extra AI to make up the numbers. The help it out matches will take place in choke points of the map.

The game will be great :-D Due to the size of the map I can't imagine there being a demo, none have been announced.

Really looking forward to this, good price thanks

Good game but after playing it on PC many years ago I find it difficult to warrant a Hot. The game was o.k. then but in todays climate ( unless they've done a load of work on it ) it's not worth that amount. Not voted either way.

The original game was hugely popular, had years of loyal fans with masses of updates and later addons.

The original also came out 8 years ago, this version is by a different dev so hasn't "done a load of work on it" they've started from scratch like any game that old would be!

Regardless of any of that this deal is 'Hot' because it is £2 cheaper than the next cheapest deal. And by any standards under £30 is a good price for a new game. Your post makes very little sense.

Massive fan of the original and although this is not made by the original coders, still looks good enough.

Shall order.

Dont know whether to buy this for Console or PC version i Know the PC version has better Multiplayer (32 players ) compared to the 8 on console. Plus you have muouse control on PC.
I have 28inch screen on pc compared to 32inch on console.
Just dont know which version to go for.
#20
i'd go for the PC version if i had the choice, main reason being for the multiplayer-4v4 on a game like operation flashpoint seems wrong especially since the original is nearly ten years old and had more players, still going to be awesome though ;-)
#21
Awesome. Already bought 3 for re-selling, when considering play.com price!

Cool price just brought pc version. Cracking Price of £17.93

From what I read PC is 8v8 + AI

If your PC is up to it I expect the third party support for the game and map editing etc might swing it :-D

No Mate 32 players on PC version 16 v 16

OFP2 Multiplayer
The pc version includes 32 player 16 vs 16 environment. There is also a new addition to online play. Each gamer can have a squad of 8 soldiers this makes wider spread gaming easier and more true to life.
There is also an additional 8 player co-op which usually goes down well, take Sven Co-op for example, brilliant half life shooter!

Last but not least, players can also go for a 4 player campaign and single player mission co-op, awesome! lets hope the community will create numerous server across the world, one thing operation flashpoint was lacking, running a server on cable 128 kb upload, is not good!

Console is only 8 players in total mate.

This is what I read:

3 Game Modes (Annihilation, Infiltration and of course, Co op.)

hand-picked key locations on the island that were good choke points

4v4 HUMAN players - consoles (with ai, 16v16 = 32 players)

16v16 HUMAN players - PC's (with ai, 32v32 = 64 players)
THIS IS A Q/A INTERVIEW WITH TIM BROWNE.

Quote:
INTERVIEWER:Can we expect any competitive multiplayer?

TIM:There is, there's two game modes: There's Annihilation, which is... we hand-picked key locations on the island that were good choke points – don't want to give too much away – but you get in to some pretty intense fire-fights. Then there's another game mode which is very cool, we're very proud of, called infiltration. This is a deliberately unbalanced game mode, so it's ten United States Marine Corps spec-ops guys who have night vision, thermal scopes, the tools of the trade, against twenty-two PLA troops who don't have quite as good weapons, who are defending something.

And this was done deliberately because we felt this was something you don't see in many games, and we wanted to do something a bit more tactical and flashpoint – y'know, it's very much the flashpoint flavour. As I say, we're not just leaving the game and that's it, we are planning DLC, we are currently considering additional game modes, but I'm not going to say any more than that. We've got some very cool other ideas in the works at the moment.

INTERVIEWER:So that's 32 players over Xbox Live and PSN?

TIM:No, it's eight players over Live and PSN, however it's not just four on each side and that's it because that would be not very fun at all, obviously. We spent a lot of time, a lot of money developing the advanced AI that you use in the single player, and we're using that AI in the multiplayer as well, so it means that each player could be a fire team leader with several guys below us, and there'd be other fire teams. So you get massive fights still despite not having quite as many players as the PC game. But on the PC, yeah, you do have 32 players.

so yes I misread the the 32 player PC thing, that sucks :-( but it looks like there are more players on console than 8 but they are AI
#29
I want more players :-( Games on consoles often seem to carry less players. Yet very old PC games could handle 32-64
#30
I think it's almost deliberate that there are less players on console. So not to do with the hardware, but more so to do with the fact that you would get more LAN games and that lag may be less of an issue for reputation of the platform (as obviously calling it PC is generic enough not to affect any manufacturers unlike Sony or Microsoft).

I understand the principle that because it's cheaper the deal is hot but I won't vote because I have free will no matter how much my "nonsensical" post confuses you :P

Ordered and cancelled with ShopTo :-D

Now for a decent Forza 3 deal..

Plus it's cheaper.

As a loyal PC gamer, I've found myself drifting to the PS3 more over time and using that as my main source of gaming and have hencely ordered for that format.

Most folk are probably right when they say this will be better for the pc but if like me you got fed up with the constant upgrading as the latest graphics card you bought is outdated 3 months later then you will have probably made the switch to consoles as ur main source of gaming.
This is a game I think will definitely work better on the pc but i'm looking forward to see how this will work on consoles.
Would love to see map editor on xbox or ps3 as this is how I spent most of my time playing flashpoint many years ago after completing the excellent campaign.

I echo those sentiments.

Did get fed up of updating. Also looking forward to seeing how the console version pans out after sticking with the series since 2001.

The main benefit in my view with consoles is that games come out in an optimised format so no real tweaking is needed. Where online play is involved, the platform is much more fair as everyone will be having the same basic setup.

PC gaming still has its place and in my view is king of the hill, but consoles are so much closer to PC gaming than ever before so the gap is narrowing fast.
