Tomorrows DEAL OF THE DAY probably the cheapest ever 3d ready projector...

For the bigger picture in smaller rooms, check out the Optoma DW531st projector.

What makes this Optoma HD projector stand out from others is the ability to project a 64" widescreen image onto a screen from a distance of just 1m! Imagine, an image bigger than all but the most expensive of plasma TVs, that's super sharp and defined and yet that's easily produced in the smallest of rooms.

Yet the Optoma DW531st isn't just about short range flexibility, it's about image quality, too. DarkChip 3 technology from Texas Instruments produces an excellent contrast ratio of 3000:1. Crisper whites and deeper blacks don't just make it easier to read onscreen text, such as subtitles, but also improve the realism and detail of image. Added to this brilliant contrast is BrilliantColor technology. This produces life-like colours and vivid images when using the projector for gaming.

Unlike most other projectors, the Optoma DW531st comes with built-in speakers. This makes it ideal for use on the move or for when you don't want to switch on your full AV system - such as when watching the news late at night!

Making the most of the built-in audio system is an HDMI socket with HD audio compatibility. This means that it takes just one lead from your PC, Blu-ray or games console to feed both audio and video to the projector. Added to the HDMI, you'll also find inputs for VGA and component via 15-pin D-sub, S-Video and composite. There are also audio-in and outputs, plus an RS232 controller socket.

With bulbs and filters, owning a projector can be an expensive business. The filter-free design of the DW531st makes it virtually maintenance free. In addition to this, the high quality bulb is a long life design rated at up to 5000 hours of use - that's a lot of watching! Finally, the auto-power off and <1W standby mode save on power. When combined together, this is one frugal projector.

Whether you're after your first projector or just need something that will work effectively in a small room, the Optoma DW531st makes an ideal choice.

What's the cost of replacement bulb on this?
#3
Oh, it's only £150 for a replacement bulb oO
#4
looks good
banned#5
Guys PJ's are not for everyone, the bulbs are expensive but you can buy non OE ones much cheaper.

The PJ I have has a lamp life of about 4000 hrs I think which is a long time before I need to replace the lamp, watching football or anything for that matter in full HD on a 104" screen is hard to beat. Gaming is simply awesome and the cost of my lamp is about £100 i think so even if it is every 2 years it is a cost that is acceptable .... to me.

Horses for courses and PJ's are NOT for everyone......

I don't think this will play 3D out of the box, when I looked into getting a 3D projector a couple of months ago you needed to buy Optomas converter (I think it was £150 odd quid) in addition to any of their 3D ready projectors, though I'm sure someone will correct me if I'm wrong. Also this is only 720p, and you'll notice the difference (compared to 1080p) when viewing pictures larger than 40".
banned#7
You are correct Chris.......This is 3D ready yes, but as with any PJ you need to buy the equipment to go with it but not many are 3d ready and it may be important to some.

Mine will not play 3D even though it is a fairly new one but 3d just does not float my boat and getting full hd was far more important, 3D is for the cinema....but that is just my opinion. I cannot see me ever sittinG at home with glasses on.

Right I checked the link....to be hoinest I ahve not looked at any PJ's this year and although knew that Optoma were bringing their 3d box I was not aware of this one. Not for me anyway as it is again not full HD which is more important to me than 3d. Still double the price but no need to buy the box so worth looking at for anyone interested in my deal as it may suit you better.......but similar to the Onkyo / Sony saga .... Optoma are PJ specialists and produce some of the best.

I know exactly how much you love it........nearly s much as me. Best tv I have ever had, the whole experience is superb and I absolutely love the Spectra 3 ambilight. I almost bought one with spectra 2 ambilight when i got let down by M&S and so glad I didn't, it adds a whole new dimension to the look of the tv......now what to watch????

Which pj's have u guys got?
Mine's only a 720p and it projects at about 120' usually and I've never had a problem with quality. Watched several 720p films and they seem fine!
Having said that, I've never seen a 1080p pj face to face.... don't want to either in case I decide I must have it and I shant be able to afford it for quite a while!!

Movie reccomendations, Have u seen zombieland? Thats pretty awesome, esp in massiveness!
Also, Star wars Ep1 looks ace on a pj.... though what a steaming pile of **** it is.
And finally, 500 days of summer. Great film.
Or Kick-ass might look good in 100'? or any action film really!

Optoma HD20 1080p but as you have said your PJ gives an awesome pciture and that is all that matters. No point going comparing until you have the funds to replace, this is my first PJ so I did not know what to expect really but have to say the pic is an awful lot better than I imagined it could be and never thought it woudl be as good as a tv especially at 104 inches......but it is.

Fave pics for me watched on it upto now are Avatar, Pirates of the Carribean and a few action films....but it is used a lot by my son for gaming and he thinks COD and Fifa are brilliant on it....for me it is for watching football but unfortunately this is a nightmare at the moment an absolute nightmare watching your team in almost full size crystal clear images playing so bad.......:(

what do you prefer for watching movies? 56''philips tv or full hd projector? what is projector quality like compare to your 56'' tv?
#15
Arsenal fan eh? lol
I had an older version of the HD20... the HD65. lovely piece of kit but incompatible with my wonky front room lol
I went and bought a Panasonic AE900... its pretty awesome.
I've tried playing black ops in 100'... just gave me a headache! reckon itd be epic for offline multiplayer!!
I feel a lot like you do about my pj. Picture is easily as good as a TV, and bigger. Having said that, I've got a TV in the front room as well so PJ is only for movie nights :)
Any more film reccomendations? try the ones I reccomended... I think you'll enjoy it. 500 days of summer is a pretty decent (anti) rom com to watch with the missus or whatever.
Also, Black knight or Inception would be epic on pj... will be giving them a re-watch as soon as my exams are over :)

Definately the tv without doubt for me......

I can't fault the PJ but i do not watch it so much anyway as my sofa in the lounge is more comfy but watch most football games on it, play kinect on the PJ which is great for the games I play like table tennis, bowling etc and the odd movies but probably only once a fortnight right now but it is used everyday by my sons and their mates.

I could never justify the price of that Philips 56" tv but now it is reduced and I have it I am hooked, I miss very little nomral 16:9 anyway as you will know the way it resizes it and films are just superb...just too many bargains coming up lately and my mrs has told me to get off this site as I have spent a small fortune since i registered here.....lol.

Noooooooooooooo much worse than that at the moment.....I support the most succesful English football club EVER.....until may that is whan Man U take over, good luck to them before everyone starts on the football.....I am a FOOTBALL fan and give full credit were it is due.....Blackpool have also done superb this year, lol. Stoke??? They have been great this year, Avram Grant or hoodini as I call him has had a great turn around since he has a fully fit squad and hope they stay up and he stays on.....had a bad time this year. Wolves another hard luck story, the great Mick Mc love him has come so close in so many games.....Chelsea....well they have to take credit for taking Torres off us for £50 million and also for ....... no that is it....Spurs....love the big fella there , he should be managing England that guy....awsome.....anyway I like most of you guys out there so **** Liverpool off too much pleeeeezeee;) we know how bad we have been......good luck to Roy Hodgson also got the job at the wrong time with us.......phew covered most of you.......

what a PC answer!!! lol
I'm a united fan myself but like you, just love football! Will watch any good game. Liverpool have made a marked improvement since selling Torres.... and bought two players that I think will be absolutely quality in the longer run, and they're showing flashes of their ability already. Don't dislike liverpool, unlike most Mancs, but I think I will next season when you start challenging for the title, as a club of your size and stature really should be!

Depending on the tv and the projector, I don't think theres a lot of difference between the two. My tv is only 32" but 1080p and I personally prefer the pj for movies. For gaming, TV wins hands down but thats coz I play online quite a bit and massive screen with games just gives me a headache!

Hot of the press, most impressive pocket projector Vivitek Qumi Q2 3D 720p 30,000 hour LED bulb.

Rave reviews people getting very excited about this product, going to completely shake up the 720p projector market expected to make half of current models obsolete. Expect 720p and 1080p prices to start tumbling throughout this year.
Starting price about £500 but is expected to gradually go down to £400 by end of year. I cant wait for UK stock, Amazon current £540
See U tube for reviews of this before you get any 720p projector. Every single review are impressed by new this new product.

Guys sorry for a stupid noob question, but if you have a projector, do you have to draw the blinds everytime you use it? Because it wouldnt be well suited to a family lounge room then. Or do you limit it to use after hours?

Yes the lounge would have to be near dark to see the image properly, not to mention the blinding light coming from the unit. Not the best conditions for an everyday lounge. I had an Optoma projector in my bedroom, was v-good but I'd never own again. Optoma used to give a 6 month warranty on the bulbs by the way, mine popped in the secoond month and they replaced free, not sure if its still same...

Most home projectors will only be bright enough for a darkened room. I use mine during the day with the curtains closed but there is still quite a bit of ambient light so the experience is just OK. I'd need to invest in some blackout blinds to improve the situation. Look at the 'Lumens' value Mine is midrange at 1100 lumens (Panny PTAE 900)...you'd need 1800 lumens and up for a good daytime experience (with curtains closed).

Whatever.....you are trying to replicate the cinema experience at home so wait until after dark, turn out the lights, get out the popcorn and enjoy your 6-7 foot wide cinema picture! Nothing beats it!

Think it's been said before though...get a full HD 1080p projector rather than 720p. 720p is OK but with such a large image you'll be thinking you could be getting a lot more out of your blu-rays! PTAE 4000 next for me! (when it drops in price considerably).

Got an Optoma HD200X myself too. Great 102" 1080p picture. Don't regret buying it one bit. It certainly has got a lot of my mates jealous, in fact 2 of them have splashed out and bought the same.

Shame its not compatible with the Optoma 3DXL add-on.
