Jump to unread Post a Comment- I've been told that projector bulbs only last around 3 years with normal use and then cost nearly as much as the projector itself?
- Can you put it on a shelf on one side of the room, then adjust the screen size to fit the available space on the wall?
Also, I'd need to see it in action (in a relatively normal room in daylight conditions) so I can tell how usable it actually is... Does anyone know any shops that would let me try this out?

The replacement lamps for the model sell for less than £100 ATM.
It is possible to put this on a shelf & adjust the screen size but the lens isn't endless. You'd also be better off mounting it from the ceiling& using a dedicated screen. Here is a site that will allow you to see the kind of size picture you could get from your room.
Stop looking now if you wish to use ANY projector in a normal day lit room. Its not going to happen. You need to be in as dark a room as possible to get the best out of a projector.
I think the 3d-xl adapter is an optional extra for the hd200x . I also have that added to mine and again 3d is amazing for these machines. 3d works so much better the larger the picture you can get.
Would certainly suggest you get this if you are considering a projector.

Cheers for the reply. I'd use it mostly at night but I still want to be able to see the image in normal conditions - I don't mean full daylight, but I'd want it to be usable in daytime without having to blackout the entire room...
At this price the optoma seem very good. i did use it for about a month but lack of horizontal lens shift spoilt it for me as i needed to put it on a shelf in the corner of the room.

best place for demo is usually high street stores like richer sounds and to a lesser extent panasonic stores. good idea just to yell.com projector or hifi sound vision and give them a ring to see if they can demo a particular projector.
to be honest a demo will almost always look good in a dedicated shop as they almost always have the right setup and conditions. until you get your projector home in your own particular setup you wont be able to recreate the exact same lighting or ambience of your own room.
bright projectors are best for use in lighter rooms or so i have been told on avforums - which is recommended too for reading up on various projectors and users setup if you are seriously considering buying one.
i just project onto a white wall in a white room - which is probably the worse type of setup for a home cinema system, but even then i get a great picture in hd. i do have to wait till the sun goes down to get a good picture though, mostly gaming (360 and wii) at night though and the odd footie game, really impressive. with my setup though its never going to replace the TV in terms of general usage. its like a special treat.
other thing to consider is your sound system. in my setup i am fortunate to be able to use a hdmi matrix between my tv and the projector which allows any of 4 inputs to be shown on either tv/projector at any time and it has the audio out for the hdmi to be sent to the speakers which are in the room with the projector.

We've got an Epson which runs at 2200 lumens (this Optoma is 1500). Its perfectly visible in a day-lit room - and that's projecting straight on a wall, not a screen.

Depends on the brightness. This is 1500 lumens so I would say not.
My brother has this projector though and it's awesome. But you wouldn't use it for day to day TV. More for when you just wanna watch a film or play a game. When it should be dark anyway!
At 2000 lumens a projector isn't too bad in daylight. I have a Casio LED one which is passable at 2300 lumens but the darker the room the better.

Not much media past 1080p at the moment.
