However, people are still charging between £100 and £300 more for this so how is it cold exactly?

As already pointed out, it's a bit of a flawed system, but likeable nonetheless. Biggest flaw is the transmeta processor, which is simply a little slow. However, it's a tiny, fully featured system and a great price. These were around £1200 when they first came out!

And, I can't find it cheaper anywhere else, so on that basis, it's a hot deal.

because they are colder deals, and yours is just a bit chilly.

Dont get me wrong, the price is good, but the unit isn't.

You wouldn't vote a dog turd hot, even if it was cheaper than elsewhere :D

I remember drooling all over my keyboard when those were released, but years have gone by...

You can have a 7-inch Eee PC for cheaper those days. Or the new Eee PC 900 for around £330, or even the HP 2133 Mini-Note for £350. Not mentioning the rest of the competition, in particular the coming Acer Aspire One priced like the Eee PC, one to look forward to!

Not hot for me I'm afraid... But thanks for the effort, and here's some rep' for the follow-up...

The Eee and Aspire are nice machines but not really handhelds, people who want a UMPC dont want something you have to sit on a surface to use.

However I agree the Aspire One looks very very nice and I ll probably get one when they come out. Think I will go for the base model with SSD and see if I can shoehorn XP onto it.

so aside from the cack cpu why is it flawed?
and its the cpu that much slower than the eee's celeron or newer atom jobs?

Screen is supposed to be not the brightest in the world, cpu is relativly slow and 512 ram is not great either. Celeron is quicker but uses more energy, Atom is a quicker and very energy efficient.

But for a more modern UMPC you are probably looking at £700 upwards, this is a handheld WinXP PC for not a lot of money and its spec reflects that.
