I don't know if this is well known but I couldn't find a topic for it. Went in to Orange shop the other day to upgrade my contract which was in its last 2 months. Took them a while to offer this but eventually they told me that if I return my old handset from the contract I will get £100 off the overall total of my contract. Works out to roughly £5 a month so my contract is now down to £14.

Best thing about it was that all you need is the handset, no accessories, box or charger are needed and doesn't matter what condition the phone is in, as long as it switches on. Has to be the original handset you got with the contract though. Hope this helps some people out.

How has this been voted cold? They give you £100 for your old handset. I don't understand this website sometimes.
I think the £5 a month off is the standard deal you would be able to negotiate when renewing your orange contract, I bargained £35 down to £25 with a new phone when I renewed 18 months ago, also kept my old phone. I will expect another chunk off the monthly and a phone when I renew shortly.
old news cold from me
I need to renew my Orange contract next month, this comes handy, thank you
Well I never knew so thanks for that ... gives another option

Some people obviously have a different view to yours - we are allowed to have that. :p

This is old news as someone else has said. Besides, you can negotiate better deals with your provider - as also pointed out in another post. Good for the OP that he's happy with what he got but it's by no means a hot deal.
I was offered £100 off earlier this year, over the phone, dealing direct with Orange. I could only get the deal on certain handsets, though (although the handsets offered were good).
wife rang to cancel her contract. orange offered nokia 6303 400mins 600 txts and unlimted land line for ~ £9.50/month.
not taken it yet but push them and they usually give you a good offer to stay
never heard this before so hot from me

Oh Damn, I got a new contract last week, unlucky me
not bad but i dont like orange
tbh orange is crap
Depending on the phone sometimes it's worth checking out one of these mobile phone recycling companies to see what they can offer you. This link over at MSE checks the majority of the recycling sites and shows a comparison table of all the prices:

Sometimes you can earn Quidco too, for example Cashinmyfone pays £4.50 Quidco on top off your recycling quote.

Works for working and *non-working* phones to. Just be sure to check out the individual terms for each site if sending over a non-working phone as some do not cover for cracked screens and water damage for eaxmple.

After this then you should be able to get the money from this and still negotiate a good deal on your contract!
didn't know this, added heat
I used to work for orange and that deal is way old, but be careful with oit because orange tend to forget you traded your phone back and don't credit your account.

When i renewed my contract in march i told them that O2 was offering me 700mins unlimited text and a new phone for £20, to my 500min unlimited txt for £35, orange then offerend me 1000mins unlimited text and a new phone for £20, trick is o2 and orange are the biggest rivals say you will go to o2 they will do anything to keep you. My next upgrade i'm going for a new phone 1000mins unlimited text and unlimited internet. :D
This is good, i'll send back my useless w890i
Not suitable for freebies... moved to deals :)

Oooh good to know, I always looked at others but never knew they were such bitter rivals. Will play that up next time around.
well i've been with Orange for over 10years now and I didn't know this!!! So hot from me!!

it's all very well people saying, oh you can get this or that but it depends on your monthly spend - guarenteed income over the contract period.

I was a Premier customer a few years back and got a free upgrade every 6months and direct customer service number BUT was spending £90 a month.

Last year my contract was £12.50 for blackberry service, 800mins, unlimited land line calls and 800txts, unlimited home broadband & 9 magic numbers

Because of that this year I didn't get a very good deal cos I only paid £225 in total for the 18month contract..... but they still sent me a nokia 6700, unlimited txts, 100mins, 12 magic numbers, unlimited home broadband for under £10 a month!

Yes you can get a good deal if you say you want to leave, but they also reward loyalty too. :)
maybe go through quidco/cashback sites you will get about similar amount of money, and you still keeping the old handset
Just a quick tip on this:

i used this deal a couple of years ago when getting a new contract. The existing phone I had was worth about £75 at the time, and they accepted ANY phone (i.e. they didnt check to see if the phone you gave back was off your pre existing contract)

So i sold my phone on ebay for £70 and bought a £5 phone off ebay to take back into the shop for the £100 cashback!
