Could be the new hot deal for this phone!

It's an amazing phone and if you unlock it and go to modaco you can get android 2.2 Froyo working on it. I've also customised mine using go launcher ex (free from android market) and it is AMAZING for the money.

Even friends with iphones are impressed given it's price... (and no - I'm not being anti iphone - I'd get one if I could justify the cost!)

How To Unlock For FREE

Other tutorials and guides here

Android 2.2 is a lot faster than Android 2.1. Plus by installing a custom ROM you remove all the unnecessary Orange bloatware and branding that slows down your phone, giving you 100% Google Android.

2.2 is much faster. yes it's worth doing but you might want to wait a week or two to see if CyanogenMod (2.3) is ready!

on 2.1 for example, i had problems scrolling where sometimes it would "run away", or sound would stutter whilst disabling alarm. all this gone in 2.2, buttery smooth :D

STOP PRESS Android 3.0 may be runnable on this phone also hehe lolzorz

On 20 May 2010, the 2.2 (Froyo) SDK was released.[15] Changes included:[16]

* General Android OS speed, memory, and performance optimizations[17]
* Additional application speed improvements courtesy of JIT implementation[18]
* Integration of Chrome's V8 JavaScript engine into the Browser application
* Increased Microsoft Exchange support (security policies, auto-discovery, GAL look-up, calendar synchronization, remote wipe)
* Improved application launcher with shortcuts to Phone and Browser applications
* USB tethering and Wi-Fi hotspot functionality
* Added an option to disable data access over mobile network
* Updated Market application with batch and automatic update features[17]
* Quick switching between multiple keyboard languages and their dictionaries
* Voice dialing and contact sharing over Bluetooth
* Support for numeric and alphanumeric passwords
* Support for file upload fields in the Browser application[19]
* Support for installing applications to the expandable memory
* Adobe Flash 10.1 support[20]
* Support for extra high DPI screens (320 dpi), such as 4" 720p[21]

Seems like a worthwhile upgrade. :)

You can still get the Myplayer app that has the Iplayer functionality - however, you need the older version on Myplayer as the new one doesn't allow this (thanks to Beeb banning it).

If you do a google search 'Myplayer apk' and do a bit of digging you should find the old app and download to computer and then transfer to phone.

The link posted by Javea above includes the info that you'll need to get this a. unlocked for all networks and b. how to install an unbranded more recent version of Android onto it. It's got other stuff too,but those are the key points. I'm on voda and planning to do this. The specific part of that link covering unlocking, is here: http://www.orangesanfrancisco.co.uk/android/how-to-unlock-the-orange-san-francisco-zte-blade-for-free/

Once unlocked, you would then need to get the settings for Text Messages, Multimedia and Internet: these will likely vary slightly, by whether you are a Voda pay as you go or monthly contract customer. Vodafone should be able to provide them to you, and talk you through setting them up: obviously, they do not sell this phone, so won't know quite how it works, but the key thing you need are the settings.

There's a Voda help page here, that includes which settings are needed, and how to get them :
http://help.vodafone.co.uk/system/selfservice.controller?CMD=BROWSE_TOPIC&PARTITION_ID=1&CONFIGURATION=1000&SIDE_LINK_SUB_TOPIC_ID=1269&SIDE_LINK_TOPIC_ID=1108&TOPIC_ID=1269&TOPIC_TYPE=0&STARTING_ID=0&TOPIC_NAME=Generic%20settings%20for%20your%20phone&PARENT_TOPIC_ID=1108&SOURCE_FORM=BROWSE_TOPIC

Apparently there is already a version of 2.3 available but haven't tried myself so can't verify how stable it is.

i bought this a few a few weeks ago im happy with it but the camera is a bit of let down.

Did anyone tried the unlocking using the given link : http://arrtoo.x10.mx/unlockBlade.php
Is it really working?
#29
I was in the orange store on Sat and the black model was more expensive than the white one. They also offer a £20 discount for public sector employees (all colours) *, so if someone with you has their paslip it will suffice. Might be worth looking at for those who want a non-black handset. Orange may have wanted a £20 topup, I can't quite recall. Seems that this deal, from AndyWedge, is likely the lowest cost atm.

How much internet browsing would you get from say, 10 pounds top up?

Thats the only thing holding me back from buying a smartphone.

As long as you can find the settings for the data services (Internet, mms, etc), it'll work anywhere.
#33
This is better than buying it from direct from Orange. That's what I did, and the supplied memory card turned out to be knackered, but they refused to do anything about it. The most appalling customer service I have ever received - they just ignored me on a few occasions, then they hid behind their "it's an accessory and not included in our warranty" thing, then then even claimed to have not actually sold it to me ("it was just something the manufacturer put in the box") and they still refuse to do anything about replacing it. And yet they've explicitly told me that they don't think they've breached the sale of goods act.

Anyway, I must dash - I've had a great money making idea that involves selling faulty "accessories" on eBay.

says this under network bonus, Call 343 to choose free texts, music or internet

To be honest, you'd be best off unlocking the phone (which can be done for free) and then changing to a different PAYG provider like giffgaff. Their £10/month goodybags will give you unlimited browsing (plus unlimited texts and 250 mins), so you don't need to worry about how much data you're using.
