Sorry for another San Fran listing but for those struggling to find stock at Argos looks like Prepaymania have the black ones back in stock. However, now looks like you have to add the £10 top up - price is £89.99 but when checking out adds £10 top up automatically. I know the white ones are available at same price but some prefer the Black/Grey one.
Possible £5 Quidco cashback as well - I think.

White one also available on their website at the same price as their ebay store - however, the price on their own site includes £10 top up whereas no mention on their ebay listing that it includes the top-up.

A couple of links below for advice on upgrading etc:

For people just reading this thread and not previous ones handy tips from another post below:

If you have an orange PAYG simcard you can get £20 off which brings it down to £89.99, just call the sales team on 0800 079 2000 and ask for the discount! Some people have got it for £78.99, it often takes multiple phone calls to get it for that price and you will also certainly need an orange payg sim card that you have topped up recently to get a price of £78.99, £82.99 or £89.99 which are the 3 prices most people get quoted. As of early december nearly everyone is getting the £78.99 price now, it seems orange is happy to sell it at that price for existing payg customers.

As a comparison to another lowER value android phone the HTC wildfire, the photos are 3mp instead of 5mp and look rather alot worse, i've compared them. The battery life it approximately half of the HTC wildfire, HOWEVER the screen is bigger and 480x800 res so its far easier to read, you are able to zoom in on webpages and read correctly where as you can only see in 100% zoomed in or fully zoomed out on the htc wildfire. The wildfire uses 240x320 resolution so there are many apps that aren't available on the android market for it, there's many more available for the Orange San Francisco. The cpu is 600mhz vs 528mhz and is considerably faster on the orange san francisco i've found. The HTC Wildfire has Android 2.2 firmware update available now. The orange san francisco is way cheaper. The Samsung i5500 Galaxy Europa is available for £99+£10 topup at e2save, it also has advantages and disadvantages over the san francisco.

FREE Unlock calculator: http://www.nextgenserver.com/calculator/
Put your IMEI in (which is printed on the box and is also available at Settings-About Phone-Status-IMEI), select ZTE, leave default model as ZTE BLUEBELT. Put a non-orange sim card in and enter the code and press "unlock" and it will then be done.

Samsung i900 Screen Protector fits brilliantly without any cutting. For a soft gel case the Nokia e71 is a great fit but will require you to make a hole as the speaker is covered, as of 8th dec there are no silicone cases that are designed for the Orange san francisco available yet, usually they are out a few weeks after new handsets are released.

This phone for can sometimes be bought for £159 with one years pre-paid credit on orange in shop. Also £129 for the phone with 6 months credit. (Credit is loaded automatically every month at £10 for one whole year on the sim card, along with free extras which you choose such as free internet or calls etc). This is alot cheaper than buying the phone separate and than topping up £10 each month over the year. You can buy this phone on contract on orange's site but its very expensive, cheaper to buy the phone and use payg sims or the £7.50/month vodafone sim or £10/month tesco sim depending on your needs.

Vodafone UK 3G/MMS settings for PAYG and also Contract sims, tested and works perfectly: http://pastebin.ca/1991037

Wifi is a problem for this phone, for many users it stops working, we believe this is a driver problem of the handset, its unknown if orange will release a software update, i can't find an option on the phone to search for software updates, you may need to take it instore to get it upgraded if/when a fix is released. Apparently android 2.2 custom roms fix the wifi problem. Please phone orange and ask about a software update to fix wifi and reply in this thread with their response.

Android 2.2 a.k.a froyo won't be released by orange according to their tweet: "We have no plans to launch 2.2 on the San Francisco I'm afraid". There is no option on the phone to check for updates so unless they release a usb software update online or their staff instore do them then its unlikely we'll ever get an official fix for the wifi not working all the time, which is likely a driver problem.

Blade wifi fix a free app available on android market reduces/fixes the wireless dying when your phone is in sleep mode, another way to reduce the problem is to disable this setting: Settings-Wireless & network settings-wifi settings-menu (button)-Advanced-Wifi sleep policy-Never

Screens are now TFT and not AMOLED in order to reduce their costs. Some older batches of the grey phones used to be AMOLED but not anymore. TFT reduces battery life and has a backlight when the screen is black instead of being completely black which AMOLED does. To find out if you phone has AMOLED you should switch it on, the black background surrounding the orange logo should be completely black, if its grey your screen is TFT. Another way to find out if your phone is TFT or AMOLED is by dialing *983*24474636# in the dialer. Your phone will then say 1 of the following:

OLED:

LCD Information:
IC: TL2796
Glass: Samsung

TFT/LCD:

IC: NT35580
Glass: LEAD OR
Glass: TRULY

Some websites describe the colour as grey, some as black, its actually grey, there is no black version available."

I have heard the san francisco with amoled screen maybe reintroduced later this year. The tft ones may become limited edition. I think if many people send enquiries for the amoled ones to orange, it maybe reintroduced quicker.

ivanli: Can I please ask what's your source on this?

Thanks

Pretty much this price every where now.

Pretty much this price every where now.

Only reason for posting is I think people are struggling to find the Black/Grey one in stock at this price.
#5
yeah tried to reserve/collect at Argos (same price) but wouldn't let me as out of stock, so this is well worth posting. I ended up getting one direct from Orange, tenner dearer but next day delivery and quidco (thought it would be £12 but tracked at £5). As this is in stock its a good deal.

Why cold? Good deal for a phone that's actually in stock. And the whole OLED vs TFT business is very overblown IMHO. We have one of each and yes, if you look very carefully, there is a difference, but I can't actually say one is better than the other. Just down to taste.
#7
Thanks for that, getting my white one today :D

I have just ordered one. You can pay with paypal which is a bonus.

It is free delivery. Same day dispatch. Royal mail 2nd class recorded is the service.

£5 quidco tracked....

I have been trying to get one from Argos but always out of stock... so this is a hot deal ... and with Quidco it works out £5 cheaper than the Argos deal....

Iv heard a lot of people saying they will upgrade the Android OS how do you do this? And what are the advantages in doing so ?

Many Thanks and voted hot

Probably cold as people no doubt getting bored with all the postings on this phone and not realising it is quite difficult to find stock (especially the Grey/Black) at this price. People will probably just see price and think it is standard fare.
Alternatively, perhaps the 'love affair' with the Orange San Francisco is reaching an end.

These are in stock, I ordered an hour or so ago and order has been accepted no problem

Difficult for the love affair to end for this phone. I paid £66 (well £94-£10 top up- £18 cashback tracked) before Xmas for the white tft. Battery life is so much better than the t-mobile pulse mini with a smaller screen. Touch screen works flawlessly. £5 Play/Belkin iphone 4 case fits like a glove. Omnia 900 screen protectors fit perfectly. Unlocking is flawless & free. Giff Gaff sim is exceptional for the price. Call quality is excellent. Basically a Perfect Phone/Price Point. Even £200 more you get only marginal improvement. Orange priced this too cheap to start with, in my opinion - you won't be disappointed even at £110. The TFT is fine - and pretty sure helps Battery life -certainly doesn't hinder it. (and no I don't work for Orange) - just get one - best upgrade you'll make this year. Buy this save the cash until the expensive models downgrade to £100 - I say. Basically the current benchmark for all other phones to beat. (I sound like the man that liked Remmington so much he bought the company - if only!)

Good sales pitch. Was just thinking the 'love affair' had ended as the one listed at Argos last week reached something like 1600 while this one has struggled. With the Argos ones now very difficult to find, especially in Grey/Black and you get Free Delivery to your door with this deal (no trying to locate a store with stock then spending petrol money and possible parking fees on top). Also, the potential of £5 Quidco cashback which was not available with the Argos deal. Could just be that everyone who wants one has already bought one.

Very good and rilable phone, the price dosen't seems to drop even after launch period of 3-4 months, been using it everyday along with my iphone and it serves a really hard life and no mechnical failure for the past 3 months. Update it to froyo and put in a unlimited data sim, here you go your so call "mifi" can hook up almost any thing with wifi. given that mifi cost £70+ and this is £99 unbeatable!

Haven't modded mine, but happy enough with the stock firmware at the moment. I have the exceptional three mifi device which works perfectly. The advantage being I can stick that in the upstair window and still use my phone normally around the place. The orange niggles soon pass you by. Not trying to warn people off doing it - it's your choice but I'm always reserved about unsigned software to key loggers or other bits and pieces being installed into the firmware.

Found it suspicious that on one of the modded roms on earlier release had a a syncing problem with facebook. Might be nothing - but gave me the impression someone had been tampering with the sync code, and the only reason you'd do that is to extract your data.

Thanks for the heads up. Think a few have had the £5 quidco tracked on the Prepaymania deal (not a guarantee it will pay out mind you) but no Quidco available on Argos deal. Also, no travelling costs but handy if you find stock in your local Argos - most of the Scottish stores still showing as 'Order Into Store To collect' with dates from this Friday onwards. Not entirely sure how this works as you don't actually get a reservation number and when you confirm comes back as No stock - not sure if you have to register with Argos and pay there and then.

I got one from Argos the other day but the WiFi was faulty - it couldn't pick up a signal from 3 metres.

Think the one I got had previously been returned as it was the only one I could find at Argos in the whole of London. If they've got a new batch in then they should be ok but just check the Orange branded seal on the bottom of the box in case it's a return being re-sold as new.

Thanks! Purchased Tuesday morning. Has tracked with TopCashBack for £5.55.
Hot!

As a bit of a balance, I hated mine and took it back the day after (fortunately it also broke otherwise I'd have been stuck with it).
The touch screen was very poor compared to my iPhone.
The software mods didn't really improve anything.
