If you're quick, you can get the same phone with a 24 month £10.12 a month contract and £150 quidco from Orange http://shop.orange.co.uk/mobile-phones/san-francisco-from-orange-in-grey discussed in this thread http://www.hotukdeals.com/deals/free-orange-san-francisco-5-per-month-off-15pm-rental-150-quidco-now-back-stock/894897/

The £150 quidco deal expires this evening, and may not pay out. However, I ordered this morning and it tracked a couple of hours later. If quidco pay out then it works out at £100.13 for the phone including delivery, with 24 months of calls (unlimited texts with 100mins or unlimited texts with 50mins and 250MB data).

Which modaco rom are you running android 2.1 or 2.2?? The modaco 2.2 is now on revision 12 which was released at the start of feb been using this for the past month and it has no issues whatsoever....battery life is also improved over previous revisions....

Android 2.3 is now available for the SF but still has a few bugs in it....should be sorted within the next month though....

Bypass Froyo bugs and move to Gingerbread 2.3x.
Then inherit the GB bugs noted in 1st post here.

Actually, that comment is a bit unfair, it beats on all but sound quality, build quality, and Camera/Video quality, I have done a direct comparison of the two (using same earphones and same quality MP3s) , and whilst I prefer the overall package of the ZTE Blade if anyone is after a multimedia phone rather than a Internet/Gadget phone then the Xperia is the better option.

Personal preference, but I find that the FLB (FlibbeSan) Froyo rom is the most stable, currently on revision 10b.

Great phone.
I find Japanese Jellyfish works very well. Better than Gingerbread 2.3 from CyanogenMod. Will give 2.3 another go in a few months though.

Sod Modaco custom ROM - get yourself a bit of Cyanogenmod on there. It's still working through the nightlies prior to a final release candidate but been running this for a couple of weeks now and each release more bugs are fixed. Includes Android 2.3.3 now and runs, speed wise, sweet as a nut. Once they've finished this, it'll be by far the best ROM you could put on your Blade. Same folk that squeezed the latest Android versions onto the G1 and Magic ... think they still are!

Info on Modaco forum here: http://android.modaco.com/content/zte-blade-roms-rom-customisation/332692/cm7-nightly-discussion-thread-old-please-use-new-thread/

Download latest nightly here: http://download.cyanogenmod.com/?type=nightly&device=blade

Goto http://orangesanfrancisco.co.uk/ easy to understand and has free unlocking

Can 100% second that guide, just upgraded to Froyo myself on an orange san francisco using it the other night. Only thing I would say is that I used the Jellyfish rom linked to on that site, which works fine but seems slow in games compared to some videos I've seen on Youtube of the same games. Are there any settings I could tweak, or can anyone recommend a faster rom?
#24
Great info thanks very much! I will use Japanese jellyfish too!
#25
I'm using the froyo Japanese Jellyfish ROM and have had no problems. Totally love the phone but the camera and battery are mediocre at best.

Im using cyanogen and have no complaints, wifi is still as patchy as ever

Can you wifi tether to a pc with this?

Cheers.

Heard there's a good range of budget Android phones coming out in May that might/should be better than the San Fran, so if you've been undecided for a while might be worth waiting a little longer...
Think they're due to fall into the £100-150 sorta price range.

A lot of it depends on the support it receives though, obviously.
#28
I tether with the free version of the PDANet app. on the standard android 2.1. It seemed very easy to set up although their website says the free version won't expire outside the US mine is blocking SSL sites now but apart from that it has been ultra reliable and stable on USB although not the case with bluetooth.. If I wasn't so tight I'd pay for the full version.
I'll soon be flashing the phone so I'm hoping tethering works then without a bolt on app.

Fibblesans froyo 2.2 is awesome on it too. Don't bother with any 2.1 eclair roms anymore. If you put 2.2 on it's sooooo smooth, google maps becomes all 3d as well.

snaffled me one of these

Cheers to the OP - have some heatage !

Cheers! I was looking to get one of these and they keep going out of stock - especially at good prices.

Much better than the 5800 - and I've used both a fair bit. Not going back to the 5800, or Nokia for that matter.

I thought the San Francisco was exclusive to Orange.

My wifes was delivered yesterday. I am impressed and I have an iPhone!
It is real easy to unlock (if you need to) and there are many apps which you could put on like Face-bk etc.
It WIFI have droped off a couple of times, but this is easy to reactivate, the battery has lasted well with a fair bit of use. My daughter is looking for one and I would consider an Android next time I change

I think this is an above average phone and reading the reports, it is worth a couple of hundred more that it sells for..... that is for others to decide!
#38
If you put fibblesans froyo 2.2 in, it's unlocked once you have done it
#39
What screen is this? Im used to using a HD screen on my Samsung Wave will this be a big difference in quality?

Android 2.2 is a lot faster than Android 2.1. Plus by installing a custom ROM you remove all the unnecessary Orange bloatware and branding that slows down your phone, giving you 100% Google Android.
