be warned that newer builds of this phone are being found by some to not be as hackable as the previous batches. reports of custom roms making the screen unusable is becoming more common :(

which is a shame as its a great phone. hopefully these issues can be resolved but as yet I don't think it has.

Isn't that problem more down to people installing OLED designed ROMS onto their TFT models?

Thought these were over rated - quite a few people selling them quite quickly - aren't you better off spending more but getting a much better phone? Tesco price matches the Argos price although they are a bit sparse.
#10
cheers for the answers guys was just looking back through some older deals and saw some of those links thanks.
i take it it would work fine with a virgin sim card then once unlocked

can't decide between this or htc wildfire or go full on and buy the desire-which one's best?

No! Best value for a great spec phone on the net bar none! The Wildfire's screen res is bad although it too is a good phone. I have a San Fran for a few months now and think it's brill!! Check out Techradar and T3's reviews...they call it an 'best in group' and 'unbeatable spec for price'. A must buy at £90

The higher res screen on the San Fran makes it a no brainer over the wildfire IMHO

One of the main reason i've recently bought a 2nd hand ipad over the android tablets (say the vega) is the screen being much better.

Desire is best, but costs 3 times as much. IMO the wildfire is a better all round day to day phone but once again costs 50% more. As I only use my OSF as a MID it suits me down to the ground. Will probably upgrade it to a skate when the come out.
#15
Desire good, Nexus Sbetter.

but in answer to the question, choose the San Fran over the Wildfire. The Wildfire has a really low screen resolution.

thansk all for the info! just need to find the best deal now lol

Only thing worrying me is that some people have had problems with the new batch b10 i think. Can anyone confirm that these are still hackable or show a link on modico?
Cheers

Voted cold purely because its a rubbish phone

I got the b10 (grey) direct from orange last week, had a few teething problems at first (first time at hacking a phone) but all hacked and running 2.2 after a day. Hope this helps.

they're not, obviously some people sell anything, that means nothing considering the huge numbers of these that have been sold. if you''re going to sell something, sell an iphone4, buy one of these and have nearly £400 left over. lolzorz.

wrong again. i see from your other threads you don't know anything about this.

however i wouldn't buy one now without knowing for sure if i could change the ROM. having used 2.2 i wouldn't want to have one stuck on 2.1
i think the majority are still being modded ok (check modaco for newer methods) but this screen freeze issue is worrying..

edit: yeah most likely user error. Orange closed a couple of holes but still easy to hack. make sure you flash the correct ROM. read at modaco.
this phone is almost impossible to brick even if you get it wrong so don't worry.

Come on, quit scaremongering. That is user error. Download the correct rom and you are fine.

Updating to 2.2 unlocks the phone for free by the way.

I bought 2 phones from teso direct couple of days back,One worked fine after installing 2.2 but on the other phone the screen became unresponsive so had to return it to get a refund.I have read its nothing to do with the 2.2 upgrade and it is actually a hardware fault in some handsets.Must the phone is brilliant for the price

you will get the error if you have used the code in some other transaction or have bought something from teso direct previously as the code applicable to new customers only.If I am wrong please correct

no it is not. its a problem more and more are coming across. follow the blade thread daily and you will see its not user error you twonk. maybe a bad batch who knows, but I would hold of getting this again until its known for sure.

I actually hadn;t used it before, now its finally let me through :)

My guess would be its a volume problem or something.

Now i just hope i get one without a problem

deets ive just brought one now lol, hopefully i get one that works successfully, otherwise i'll have to get a white one :(
btw which thread are all the problems with it showing up?? i cant keep up with every thread lol

The Orange Ready Deal is still cheaper for the phone its self. Comes to £49.99 (used to be £35). Total outlay is £169.99 for 12 months of £10 credit/month (+100 MB Internet & 300 texts). The credit remains at the end of each month and you can use it to purchase 250 MB additional internet usage.

I am currently in credit on my phone of £38, have 350 MB/month+300 texts, and a great little phone running Android which I can use to browse the web on my way to and from work. Just upgraded it to 2.2.

Shame it isn't OLED any longer however.

As I originally stated, some are finding issues with this phone. I was already to get another one for my friend but I am holding off a bit to see how these reports pan out. it is a mixed bag but enough are having issues for it to be noted. plus the upgrade path is different to the old links posted on here ages ago, when I got two of them :)

whatever you do, back up original image before trying to upgrade :)

does anyone know if it's possible to use one of these on wi-fi only? as I don't have a data allowance at present and don't want to rack up a huge bill !

thats the odd thing, some are fine and some are not. I hope it was just a batch problem because these phones deserve to fly off the shelves. had one friend who was convinced by some donkey she needed an iphone so she went out and locked herself into a 24 month contract :( one of these would have suited her down to the ground

I've bought four of these in the last month, including two in the last 7 days, all for £78.99 from Orange.

I'm not even a proper Orange customer. I've just got a spare Orange sim which once upon a time had £5 free credit on. I've just quoted the number on the sim and they've given me the £30 discount every time.
#39
is this the cheapest in tesco? If I do not use the network of orange, how can I deal with the 10 top up...
