Perhaps because it' s a reconditioned phone and on Orange?

Looking at the other reconditioned phones on the page, they are hardly bargains and can be purchased new on-line in many cases for less. The free phone, Samsung X660, is not exactly a generous gift. These can be picked up for under £20.00 on line.

I have this phone. It runs on Windows 6. The only problem is that Windows crashes sometimes, then the battery must be removed to reboot it. Apart from that, a really brilliant phone.

really considering this.. missed out on the M700 offer.
quidco quotes £11 cashback on PAYG, making this more tempting

I gave up on SPVs a couple of years ago.

They had loads of features, but I found they were very unstable, and kept crashing.

Try one again. Mine has been totally stable in the 8 months i've had it. could not be without it now.
#7
Very poor phone, have got one and spends more time being repaired, don't buy

what HTC is this originally? a Tytn 1 or is it something else?

It's the HTC VOX.

http://www.engadget.com/2006/12/13/htc-vox-s710-smartphone-revealed/

I've no experience of this one but the HTC's I use have been superb. I use Windows Mobile 5 instead of 6 though as it is far more stable and oddly, faster! For those having issues it might be worth rolling back and seeing if it helps?

I think a good price.

Am tempted.

Wondering if it might be a little slow for VOIP (200 mhz cpu)
and any 3G , seems to 2g GSM only.

Anyone have any real life experience.

Want to downsize my HTC Universal too big.

I bought one of these off ebay a few months back, in prestine condition. I wanted a better organiser and presumed this would out-shine my sony ericsson k550. It didn't.

More than that, Windows mobile phones can't handle the basics. For example, you get an SMS on any normal phone: it will ring/vibrate and a large notification box with senders details etc pops up on the home screen. The soft keys give you the option to read it and as soon as they're pressed the alert sound stops. This does not happen on an SPV E650. It will ring/vibrate until the song has reached it's 4 minute end, regardless of button pressing. The absence of the notification box on the homeage is another annoyance as you are forced to make your way through the menu system. This mobile, like a pc, can be heavily customized, but the applications that are actually worth putting on your phone (ie, function well without bugs and further floors) are ones you have to pay, for example, $10 for. So the issues can be rectified but I wasn't having that; re-sold it on ebay for a small profit. I couldn't get the wifi to work either, but that was probably my fault.

BTW these are highly unlockable so don't worry about it being on orange. There are simple guides on the net for downloading the appropriate 'ROM' to remove the network lock so that's not really an issue.

Its the S710... There are some issues with the Orange version of this phone. It comes without Windows Live which is bundled into other versions by T-Mobile, Vodafone et al (which means no MSN Messenger!!!) and it has an inherent bug whereby you can't install some software unless you ditch T9 for some reason... Check out http://www.coolsmartphone.com/article726.html for a full review.

If you want this phone, I'd personally recommend going with either the HTC main branded version or one from the other networks.

Now for the really interesting part... HTC have released a new model, the S730. It's got some genuine improvements over the S710 and in my personal opinion is a much more desirable phone. Check out a full review at http://www.coolsmartphone.com/article745.html. The long and the short of it is, if you want the S710, the price will be coming down rapidly. If you want a slightly better version of the S710, just hold on for a couple of months and grab the 730 when it's released to the wild!

This is a bug in orange firmware.

Flash it to HTC's standard issue, and it works like a dream (although this isn't a great deal or anything close, im just pointing out the phone is good!)

I have the m600 and before that the m500, I find that the phone crashes on a regular basis, thinking that the m600 would have better software than the m500 I upgraded, but so far I have had around 4 M500 and I'm now on my 3rd m600 in less than 18 months.

hard resets usually work for a short time, but regular use and sync makes it less stable

I am looking to replace my m600 and would like this type of slide out keyboard, or touchscreen, with the ease of the messaging (the screen keyboard I find so easy to use), my address book on a reasonable size screen, and a decent diary system

anyw suggestions (i'd liek to stay off contract as I have the Virgin 300+300 deal for £10 which at the moment is a market beater and I cant use orange where we are.
#22
I have had my M600 for about 2 years and can not part with it.
It only crashed about a dozen times and it takes 1 min to get it up and running. You just remove the battery and restart. The only thing lost is the clock/date but it has never lost anything else even the alarm settings!

I cannot believe it has reached page two without anyone asking about unlocking.

Heres the link...

http://forum.xda-developers.com/forumdisplay.php?f=358

The link is to the forum including unlocking - as there are options and you are best having a read first to get used to the terms etc to prevent bricking.

Its fairly simple and often in the forum there is an option for various new bundled packages to install.

anyw suggestions

I'd recommend the HTC Hermes or maybe the newer HTC Kaiser (they go by the names Orange SPV M3100/HTC Tytn and Orange/HTC Tytn II although apparently the Orange branded Tytn II never got released in the UK)

I myself have had a T-Mobile MDA Vario II (HTC Hermes) for a year and a half and its held up very well given how often the sliding keyboard is used and is probably as stable as any Windows Mobile device I've had (and I've had LOADS!).

One way to get them back is bombard them with all your junk.
I have one particularly annoying spammer called Wentworth Finance who send mail with subject lines like ' We have an important message for you ' i repeatedly tried to unsubscribe and even wrote to them to no avail. Luckily i found they have a freepost address so they now get all my junk mail i receive through the post forwarded to them at their cost:)

Not true you can have SMS notifications on the homepage.

This is generally a good phone good for mp3 / movie player (SPV's were the first afterall!) BUT I personally think the processor in this phone is not up to the job - It is slower to show contacts etc than my C600 was and is sometimes quite fustrating if you are the kind of person who expects things to happen the instant you press a button.

I have had mine for quite some time now and once in a while the phone will turn off when opening the keyboard but I wouldn't say that is a major issue. Bare in mind it is a free upgrade if you are on contract.

Also don't forget with a simple tweak I believe you can create WORD & excel documents etc.

I got the M700 mainly cos i wanted a handheld GPS but in the end i decided to get a dedicated GPS that i can also use on my Motorbike. It's sitting at home at the moment waiting to be put on ebay with a reserve of £149 + postage if anybody wants it.

I've had an SPV E200 and E600, and now have this one.
It's the best out of the lot, second best was the E200!

It has occasionally crashed but like the other member said takes a minute to restart. It's a tad slow sometimes.

The wifi and keyboard are great, as when I was in the US in March was able to use all the free hot spots ! I just switched it onto Flight mode, then Wifi, to ensure that there was no chance that I would have any mobile data charges.

The mp3 player, camera and video are OK, I have a 4Gb micro SD.

My office and home PCs synch pretty well, so a an organiser it is fantastic for calender, contacts and reading downloaded emails as our IT dept support Microsoft applications.

The mobile internet explorer is quite good, but you can only open one instance, not multiple tabs.

No you want the Sony P990I ,touchscreen, 3G and £10 cheaper than the SPV. IMO also better build quality and support, had a few spv's before and was not impressed by their reliability and customer support.

Thanks for the suggestions, I also took a look at the Sony 990i, but the reviews were very poor and its about a 3year old model

I've tried the reset, now done the hard reset on the m600 and so far no problems, I can image that the issues was either mark space sync, or a scrabble  program I put on it

These phones do not ship with any accessories.
I found this out to my dismay . I bought a walkman phone but they said as is was a recon they only supply the manual and charger. So no earphones , data cable, memory card or software.
Which makes it a bit useless as a walkman.
I'm now having to jump through hoops to get an RMA for them to take it back.
