For all those like myself who managed to get hold off the £50 Xbox from Argis and softmod it with XBMC, this is a must. Seen these go on ebay USED for over 11 quid. Chepeast on froogle is £13.80 plus p+p @ http://www.consoleplus.co.uk/product_info.php?products_id=948

Anyway they are IN STORE ONLY, found 3 at the Oldham Comet, Good Luck!!!

Sorry...thought you meant I could reserve for instore...I'm having a stupid moment:whistling:

Plenty instore in Aintree. They were marked as £19.99 but scanned at £4.99. They had xbox scarts at £4.99 too.

SoftMod = "Software-only Modication" as opposed to fitting a hardware chip to modify the XBox's behaviour.

This allows it to run other applications, such as the "XBox Media Centre" - see this walkthrough for example.

Anyone got a spare copy of Mech Assualt?
#14
wolfman...Tom Clancy's splinter cell also works for softmod. I got mine from Game for 99p about 2 weeks ago.

...also gives a step by step guide.

Ah yeah been watching Splinter Cell and Agent Under Fire on eBay. Didn't know it'd be that cheap at Game though. Maybe I'll just pop instore. Cheers.
#16
Does anyone know Comet's SKU# for this item? Would make it easier for people to find stock :)
#17
You dont need to use the Mech Assualt exploit anymore.
Check out Krayzie's Ndure soft-mod.

What ever you do please please make sure you back up your eeprom, as the soft mod i did was working fine and for no apparent reason went wrong, i got an error 16, the soft mod i used never did an auto back up of the eeprom, the installer i used was SOFTMOD INSTALLER DELUXE v2.0 and with further reading i found out it never did a back up of the eeprom.

Quote: Once the Installer has boot, I strongly suggest to make a backup of your C Drive.
Use the "Create C Backup" option to backup your C drive.

To back up the Eeprom you'll need to use the Evolution X dashboard, which you will have to install yourself after the softmod is done.

The Eeprom backup is stored at C:\Backup (this can't be changed unfortunately) so please remember this. End Of Quote

although all was not lost for me i had to go buy a modchip it was hard going and exspensive and in the process messed up my sons xbox trying to sort out mine.

You have been warned.

A good place to visit is, http://www.smdepot.net/ and http://forums.xbox-scene.com/index.php
Good luck

Ah cool. Just got Splinter Cell for £2 at the local game exchange, and already have a USB adapter so virtually all set. Was planning on soldering another chip, but think I'll give softmodding a go. Cheaper and re-usable.

Found the SKU - it's '808238'.

If you ring up Comet (08705425425), they should be able to locate one near you if you give them that number. Worked for me - the Walsall store had a few out the back :)

cheers OP bagged last one at Aberdeen Beach store

Nice find- voted HOT!

In Exeter (Marsh Barton) they had 4 (-1 for me) so 3 left!
Also, spotted Advanced Scart Cable for 4.99- last one so NO scarts in Exeter.
Finally I can have 5.1 :)

Cheers
Chris
