It's an intriguing prospect for those after a cheaper and more readily available alternative to the Nvidia Android TV.

Well its never happened to me and i order from gearbest all the time, the only way this would happen is if you choose some express delivery as gearbest send their parcels through the Netherlands to avoid import tax.

Chromecast 4K Ultra for £69 from Argos is much better than this. Comes with three month free netflix and £ 5 argos voucher. Chinese tv boxes like this are hit and miss affair. They all say they are 4K but only work at 1080p due to hdcp issues.

That is only if you order through their EU warehouse. Wait one month to get it from through post with no warranty when you can buy better stuff in uk itself with full warranty and no customs or stealing tax issues.

I respectfully disagree, Chromecast is fine for one person but when you have the family around and are wanting to pick a film to watch, everyone can see what's going on, on the screen with an android TV box, plus it has a much more convenient remote.

Each to their own but I prefer having the ability to see everything on screen and have built in apps and games. There is just so much more you can do with an android box.

Yeah same box, but a different deal and happy to see it get some heat. Mine has arrived now from gearbest. Love it, only issue I am having is the adaptable storage isn't adapting. Waiting for an update to resolve.

I'm looking at a box for streaming kodi and Amazon. I don't have 4k and everything goes through my AV receiver in 5.1.

Am I likely to have issues with sound on this box ? Thats all you read onine about every other box.

Cheers

Whereas the wife and I use the Chromecast almost daily. Whether it's Netflix, BBC iPlayer, Eurosport, ITV Player or YouTube. Each to their own I guess.

Looks decent.
Even HDR output.

However, the seller looks a bit...

Check out this FAQ:
"Q: Why is the screen blurry on start up?
A: Change to a new HDMI cable."

I would be surprised if it output 1080p. It is not made to work in UK, with no UK warranty and no UK support. Maybe you can watch Chinese propaganda TV perfectly on it. :D

nvidia shield 4k tv, xbox one s and amazon 4k TV, all can output in 4k and with UK support and warranty.

Two of those are hardly a comparable cost...

This works at 4k, this is a Google endorsed product. I'm just surprised we haven't had a UK release yet.

I'm also waiting for the UK release, it was released in the US back in October :(

Sam_of_London obviously doesn't know what this is and thinks it is one of those cheap android pirate boxes.

As far as I know they Xiaomi works with Google tv team, therefore I would beleive since this is a original and from a reputed company (Better than a unkonwn Chinese brand)they won't lie on specifications.

No use trying to argue your point against him because regardless of what you say, he'll never take it on board and continue to be blindly bias and won't accept that anyone might want to buy it.

Xiaomi + Gearbest = A triggered sam_of_london
If he sees those words he'll criticise it in anyway possible. It seems even for deals that aren't phones, he'll still use his "not made to work in UK" implication. Warranty, seller and dodgy software are his fallbacks. If you argue against his "opinion" he'll accuse you of posting deals for commission or being a Gearbest employee. He'll say you have "Chinese masters" and are selling your soul. His comments this thread show what I mean. The ironic thing is that he once posted a phone deal and did nothing but criticise OnePlus3 as a comparison to it and said it was inferior and cut corners etc, even though he bought/owns a OnePlus3. That indicates how much value his opinions hold...

Tempting but I think with Android v7 around the corner we might as well wait - or is that wishful thinking?

I would rather buy things from John Lewis with two year warranty rather than from unknown people from China bypassing UK taxes, UK approvals, testing, support and warranty.

Advising people to buy things without warranty from Chinese Gearbest is only your thing. One plus is sold in UK with UK warranty. I bought it from O2 with warranty, not from Gearbest China without warranty and not full viruses to spy on me. When this product is sold in UK or Europe, and is not grey import from China without warranty , I am not interested

Then you can buy Chromecast ultra 4k at same price from John Lewis, Currys or Argos with three month free Netflix. Argos are currently giving £5 voucher for purchases over £50 and John Lewis give 2yr warranty on electrical goods bought from them.

Because of course you can play games, run other apps etc on a Chromecast?

You can play same or even better games on Google chromecast. They are all made to be compatible with Google , not with Chinese xiaomi unless you want to play Chinese games in China itself.
http://www.greenbot.com/article/2881460/the-10-best-android-games-to-play-on-your-tv-with-chromecast.html
Many games with will not even work at high resolution on these boxes because of compatibility issues.

Also there is a review of the American box where Xiaomi sells directly and not through Chinese Gearbest, says the game and software performance is not good. So it's much better to spend more on nvidia shield tv or xbox if you buying just to play games.

I doubt it, don't forget this is wifi only also so if you are looking to stream 4k media via LAN you will be in trouble.. Goocle Chromecast Ultra has Ethernet on the other hand.
