No this is the new version with the 60Gb hard drive and will play games from the hard drive rather than from the disk to save loading times - but still requires the disc for authenitcation.

Remember that Play.com does not give Quidco on console sales so this will not order will not provide cashback.
#5
They will all play games from the HDD, that's in the dashboard, it's not model specific.

This is a good deal though.

Play.com is the UKs favourite on-line DVD, CD, game and book retailer. With a great proposition of low prices and a huge range.
For genuine tracked transactions completed wholly online, you can earn:
4% for other products
6% for clothing and accessories
1% for console sales - Not great but something ;-)
#7
3% for hardware sales at game via quidco

How is paying £30 for a 9 month old game a good deal? (Console alone is £179)
#9
Cheaper to buy a bundle @ GAME - with 3% Quidco and £5.25 of reward points, their cheapest bundles work out at £198.44 (game choice from GTA IV, Battlefield BC, Top Spin 3, Beijing 2008)

Maybe so, but I can't begin to tell you how much better a game CoD 4 is compared to Halo 3.
There's a reason why you can't get this game (even pre-owned) less than £30 and Halo 3 can be got for less than £13.

FTR, the 60GB Pro 360 is just replacing the 20GB Pro, so the retail of £199.99 will still stand for this one.

Actually that feature will be part of the new autumn update which is available to all consoles. You cant do that currently.

You don't have to tell me, I bought them both at launch (in fact I traded in Halo 3 towards CoD4). Halo 3 got boring after 2 weeks, CoD4 after about 2 months.

cod4 is amazing

It's alright, a bit overrated maybe and the single player campaign is way too short.

And it's a feature which they nicked from the PS3 anyway.
#22
I think what some people are trying to say is that you could pick up a new 360 for £179, and get COD4 or any other game of your choice for £30 from lots of places. £209 doesn't represent much of a saving for a game as old as COD4.

Absolutely - I've completed the entire game, including 'Mile-High' on Veteran. I can assure you at no point was I bored :w00t:

I don't think that's a conversation you want to start, considering what 'features' the PS3 took from other consoles!

No, it's not. Most of the PS3 installs are forced, so you have no choice but to sit there waiting for 20+ minutes the first time you play. The installs don't install the full game to the hard drive either. The 360 update will allow users the choice of installing any game in full to the hard drive or playing any game from disc, so it's nothing like the PS3's implementation.

I bought the console only for £179 through the deal mentioned the other day, then bought Halo 3 off ebay for £8.51 incl p&p so feeling quite happy. :)

All I need now is a new TV as my Grundig Xentia MFW 82 490/9 has decided to chop off part of the screen on TV/DVD & Xbox - ******

I'm not trying to start a flame war it's just that the PS3 has had this feature from it's release date and on a format with no fixed disk as standard and where the vast majority have 20GB external drives, I question the point of adding it to the 360 dash now.

No they're not, I think you'll find that most PS3 games have a minimal install and then give you the option later to copy the entire BD to your internal hard drive if you so wish.

The ones which are installed automatically most of the time are just base files used for caching and the 360 has always done that which is why a vast portion of the hard drives are not accessible to the end user.

Actually, very little of the HDD is used for caching purely because developers couldn't depend on the space being available (and therefore creating a vast difference in load times between SKUs). The 5GB of space which is inaccessible to the user is for backward compatibility data.

Learn basic grammar before calling someone an idiot.

CoD4 is a multi-platform title, of course it has more sales than Halo 3. According to the latest figures I can find Call of Duty 4 has sold 'over 10 million units' (data from 3rd June), where as Halo 3 had sold 8.1 million (data from January). CoD4 was released on 3 platforms, so if you want to use sales figures as a measure of how good a game is CoD4 would need at least 24m sales...

Actually, I'll think you will find that they don't. You obviously don't own a PS3 or you'd know that.

The ones which are installed automatically most of the time are just base files used for caching and the 360 has always done that which is why a vast portion of the hard drives are not accessible to the end user.

The difference being, there are only 2 Xbox 360 games that require the user to own a hard drive to be able to play them, and there are zero Xbox 360 games that force the user to sit and wait while the game partially installs before it can be played.

To make it simple for you: -

PS3: -

Play any game from hard drive - No
Play any game from disc without a forced install - No

360 (after the update): -

Play any game from hard drive - Yes
Play any game from disc without a forced install - Yes
#34
You're wrong on at least two counts there:

1. I've had a PS3 since way before it was released in Europe.
2. I think you will find that Final Fantasy has a compulsory install on the 360, and it's a massive one at that.

To make it simple for you - shut up.

I think it's less than the original xbox used, but it's still a couple of gig, I know a lot of games don't use it though because like you said there, they couldn't rely on it, it's an excuse which the creators of Saints Row like to point out quite often. :)
#36
No stock in at the moment!
#37
BTW, CoD 4 back in the #1 for online gaming!

It's also important to note that the GOTY edition is not the version which launched 9 months ago - you get extra maps for online play which would have normally been purchased online.
#38
prices are getting cheaper nice deal

One single game out of the entire Xbox 360 catalogue is all you can come up with? Like I said - you were wrong. Microsoft's implementation of this feature is far superior. The point of adding it to the dashboard now is so that loading times are decreased, and it'll cut down on drive noise and drive wear and tear. The fact that it is optional and will work with every 360 game released up to now is also a plus, unlike trying to add things like trophies and custom soundtracks over a year after the console was released.
#40
Actually Phantasy Star is the same way, and plenty more would have been have Microsoft have included a hdd as standard.
