Agree, case is awful and the psu is worse.
I'd not trust the cheap PSU that came with that case, Put too much load on it and something is going to fry. I've no idea the OEM of the mobo but A78 boards retail from £30 to £45, The APU is £80, The CiT Shade Case is £26 including the PSU (has no connectors for GPU power) Ram £20.

Price is not terrible, it would cost around £15 less to build it yourself. But it would be worth spending more if using it for gaming on a 80+ certified PSU and a mobo with a A88X chipset and a extra stick of Ram (I'd go for 8GB)

Edited By: datalossfs on Jun 12, 2015 02:30
if you have your own ssd or HDD this is a great buy, plus it has a 500w PSU not 100% sure but you can add a cheap gpu
yeah why cold?

Overclock are a reliable company. Not sure on what this build of Norton provides in user terms ? Does it allow 3 users.

A good way to get a great deal on Norton products is to buy an older copy. i.e 2013 version as you will get an instant upgrade to the 2014 version via the update program on symantecs website. A quick search of amazon shows norton internet security 2013 as £15.95 for one computer or £22.10 for a 3 computer licence

You will probably get lots of cold added by those who don't like symantec as their pre 2011 products slowed many computers down. The current versions are very different and do not suffer these problems

Thanks so much for the advice I'll go grab a 2013 now. cheers ☺
I'm even voting cold on my own deal!!! heh heh heh

OK so my aging Dell Q6600 is starting to give me problems.

I have built PCs in the past but bought the dell last time as it was crazy cheap for a pre-built system and I couldn't get anywhere close for the price. It is now refusing to get past bios screen so if my efforts to revive it this weekend I will be be in forced upgrade mode (have been avoiding it as performance was still ok).

So this barebones caught my eye but not sure I like the idea of the Mboard and RAM. Has anyone built a good spec i5/i7 recently and point me in the right direction? I will need case/PSU and ancillaries etc... as the dell case and PSU will not do.

I bought this for £350 a couple of months back, but looks like it's no longer available...

Thanks - that looked like a good deal at £350 - similar is now £400

Tempted to build myself if I can get the old beast back up and running

CPU they don't quote model but fair to guess it is a 3350

so in all:
CPU with Fan Retail - £140
B75 Motherboard - £50 - £15 more you could have a z77 with 4 memory sockets rather than the two they are offering
Chassis £20 (their namesake that has been going longer has it at this price)
PSU (they don't quote wattage guessing lowest they can get away with so 430W) £35 (if wanting a gaming machine you would buy go up the range here to enable a decent graphics card)
8GB single Stick (why single on a dual capable system limits its performance!)- price on here the other day for dualchannel (2x4) at PC1600 is £35

don't see any heat here - a complete machine (dell or medion advertised recently) include the HDD, OS and optical drives around this price with the same limitations offered here (i.e. 2 memory sockets) although psu stated will be better quality. Additionally as socket 1155 becomes legacy (next few months when intel's haswell is released) there will be better bargains to be had

Couldn't agree more. If you want a barebones there are much better options for around £50 more. (Before people say 'post it then' this is standard, it's not an amazing deal, it's just what you should expect to pay).

Rubbish deal. I have an XPS L502x Dell i7 laptop with 6gb ram 750gb hdd and nvidia gt 540m off ebay with warranty refurbed. So how is this inferior DESKTOP worth even 250?

Laptops and Desktops are very different beasts. Laptop chips use far less power and are much slower than their desktop equivalents. Your i7 could in fact be a dual core, whereas this desktop has a faster quad core.

You got a good deal - but they're not really comparable.

I really want two of these Red Drives but waiting for price to go a little lower. I missed the Scan supersaver deal. :-(
Disappointingly my order has been put on hold awaiting stock, despite there being 8 available when I ordered. I assumed it was realtime as the numbers were dropping gradually throughout the day.
Zaim2012, you have to be very quick with deals on this website as they expire very quickly. Below is a cut and paste from the order which I received from Scan. Expecting delivery on Tuesday instead of Monday as I missed the 2pm cut off by 5 minutes :(

Just ordered 4 of these from Scan, what a great deal. Only paid £436 for 4 x 3Tb drives. Bargain!!!!! Many thanks for the tip!

Anyone thinking of getting two of these, Scan have 2x 3TB WD Red WD30EFRX for £220.98 delivered or £215.99 if you get free delivery. This weekend only on there today only page in the Super Savers section here or £122.58 delivered - £117.59 if you have free delivery for 1 drive.
Hope that helps

How did you manage that ? it was removed from today only yesterday. They have the single drive on for £117.

Unbelievable and yet he claims that he couldn't find cheaper elsewhere ! Shouldn't really be allowed to use HUKD IMO ;)
I paid £116 from amazon lightning deals [few weeks ago] and they refunded £30 for missing norton ghost software so that worked out £86 for me. This deal seems pretty bad compared to what I paid. Apart from that this is amazing piece of hardware worth having.

My board arrived today :)

Overclock used Next day delivery even so it said 3-5 days on the order page.

It's neither! Both are great boards and both at a great price. Reason I posted this one is that it usually costs at least £85, whereas the Gigabyte board is always under £80

Personally I prefer using the BIOS on Asus boards, but that doesn't mean that Gigabytes version is bad. You can't really go wrong with either of them.

If I never bought a product again because I'd had a dodgy experience with the manufacturer, or knew someone who had, I'd save a fortune as there would be nothing to buy! I used to work in PC repair, the one thing I can promise you is that every single item out there can develop a fault. Often the more successful a product the worse it can appear, more items shipped = more possibility of faults. Also remember most reports on the web are from annoyed people, nobody goes online to post 'Hey, my motherboard still works and I've had it 2 years!'.

Well, after looking at facebook maybe some do. Verbal diarrhea seems even worse when typed out!

yes and no. if someone is really happy with a product he may post about it. however if there are a very large number of people complaining about DOAs actually saying their replacements were DOAs or that the item was faulty soon after getting it, I do actually take that into account.

either way from my own personal experience, asus CAN make good boards, but if you go bottom of the range, the risk of getting crap is high.

So what board would you recommend andrea, so that I can research user experiences regarding reliability?

Just bought the oc Gigabyte 670 for £322.98 (£317.99 + £4.16 P+P)delivered on scan's today only page.Just building a new system and friends reckon that this is the card of the moment!.I know its a lot more money but this might help some looking for a better quality card IMHO.Good deal for the 660 though.Regards to all Billyhl.

I also bought that card (on Wednesday). Not necessarily because I wanted it specifically (I randomly put in a lowball £250 offer for a brand new one on eBay, thinking I wouldn't' actually get it). In my opinion there isn't really a good reason to get the 660ti at this price when a non ref 7950 costs the same while having far greater potential. The 7950 is probably the best value card on the market and further price drops are planned in the next 2 weeks. Maybe if you were planning on preordering borderlands 2 this could be considered. It also seems to excel at Battlefield 3 specifically.

More over-hyped Nvidia cards. Built as cheap as can be and sold as high as possible...

Still, with all the hype it might mean that the 7950 will go down in price a bit :D
Would spend the extra on the 670, that is a beast of a card for the money.

Just a few pence from Amazon to be honest so I would probably just use them as I've never bought anything from CCL before and Amazon have some fairly decent deals going on RAM and Motherboards as well.

http://www.amazon.co.uk/gp/product/B005UBNKWO/ref=nosim/?tag=hotukdeals-21
I got the price wrong though, it's all completely my mistake.

The CPU is available cheaper from Amazon in this case.
it's not expired if it still exists and in stock..
Sorry, I'll expire the deal then because it said delivery was free when I was looking into this on Google Shopping. Amazon are cheaper then and a lot better known.

Thanks.

is there any point if u have your own graphics card?
or is the 2500k just as good

This Chip is about 8% more performance for CPU tasks, but, This is clocked 100mhz Higher.

The Graphics in this still aren't good enough to replace discrete graphics, Only a few FPS more than the 2500k.

If you Have an I5 Already, this chip is a useless upgrade.

But if your buying in now, Buy this chip over the 2500k.

Will this work OK ish for Battlefield 3 ? (Core 2 Duo quad core)

I doubt it. looks like the 520 has 48cores, the minimum spec for BF3 is a 8800GT which had 112 cores. I could be wrong tho :D

googled around and found a few vids on youtube seems to be playable

- 1GB is plenty for a 520 chipset lol.

+ Low profile, and will fit the HP microservers frequently posted on here nicely.

i guess it isn't worth it - I only play C&C and mostly just surf
I don't think it speeds up generall used programs then
maybe a faster hard drive?

thanks you two!

Depends on what the system is used for really...

If its only for surfing the net and playing a few old games, then i cant really see it making any difference.

If its used for video encoding and things that are written specifically for quad cores then yes.

If s/he just wants "faster games" then a graphics card will be a better investment.

It will also depends on what games that they are wanting to play.

Yes, I would say so.

Sorry, average price around £65 for this and currently only £14 more for a 1.5 TB at Amazon.

Good drive though by all accounts.
