Does the chance to own a share in a racehorse, visit racing stables and enter the parade ring before a race appeal to you as well as collect a share of any owners prizemoney? I thought it was way too expensive, however, it is not as much as you may think. May also make a good gift for somebody.

On the Crowdracing.co.uk website, there are currently pitches for two flat horses where prices start from £70 for one season or £120 for two seasons.. Other options are available from Ownaracehorse.co.uk where prices start from as little as £84 and offers more trainers spread around the country as well as jumps horses for those not so keen on the flat

I have tried some of these personally and thoroughly enjoyed the experience of going racing as an owner, trips to the stables and the bonus of collecting prize money.

I prefer the Jeremy Gask pitch on crowdracing.co.uk as it is for 2 seasons you also receive proceeds when the horse is sold (not seen others that offer this option), as well as any prize money. I have therefore added further details below of this option, though as I say, all I have mentioned are good.

You can view the promotional video here:

The investment options for this are as follows:

0.15% share of the horse with 0.15% share of any prize money earned and the proceeds of any sale. Weekly news updates - videos of the horse working - invite to 1 stable open day - subscription to newsletter

Invest £2,000 and get
2.5% share of the horse with 2.5% share of any prize money earned and the proceeds of any sale - weekly news updates - videos and performance data of the horse working - option to call and arrange up to 3 private stable visits per year including breakfast for 4 at the yard with chance to meet the team and see the horses work - Certificate and framed picture - Owners badges for the races whenever the horse runs - subscription to weekly newsletter with information on all stable runners

Seems a lot better than a couple of futile spins of a FOBT in your local high street.

Interesting. Can anyone explain a typical scenario for payout? And how the payment is made and calculated?

That's not a bad price to get the experience of owning a horse, but how good the experience is will depend on the people running the syndicate. I recommend that you speak to them first so that you get a feel for them and they can answer any questions that you may have.

Remember if the horse gets injured it may not run for some time, so prepared to be patient.

Personally, I wouldn't go into this expecting a payout at the end. If you do get one it would be a bonus.

My wife loves the races and would love to be in the middle of the parade ring and get good access at a race meet. How do I apply?

after expenses ..... the 100,000 (over exaggerated so you get the idea) part owners get a share........ ie very little, its for the fun of owning a race horse for a year (not the amount you get back) plus they organise race days with a meal and marque on days its racing (not to expensive), and a fun day out, with a personality giving a talk and tips on the day, plus a tote (are they still going ? ) bookies in the tent also :) ...... my experience was over 10yrs ago, so don't hold me to it

You'll have to spend over £400 to get an owners badge, subject to availability

Haven't used this syndicate but paid £70 or so a couple of years ago with ownaracehorse. The horse I had a share in was rubbish and never ran at my local track but they did get me owners tickets everytime any of their horses ran at my local and I was able to get into the parade ring, owners enclosure etc.

They also sent photos, badges, certificates etc in a gift pack as well as access to private data on their website.

This sort of thing is great for a bit of fun, ideal for a novelty gift but it's not certainly not an investment.

how much prize money could you expect to get

I'll stick with my own portion of Horse ownership, Evostik has always been good to me and stuck around through thick and thin. He's damn good at holding together under stress.

We bought my mum a share in a horse, she has been lucky enough to win.
The first time for a £70 share she won £2500 also of course we all put bets on!
It's a nice payout as with all betting if you are one of the lucky ones

I have shares in a horse called 'My face' ........

I can't stop laughing when at the races and everyone including the posh ladies are shouting .... 'Come on, my face'

When it retires we plan to take it to local girls colleges and ask if the young ladies if the wanted to sit on 'my face'???

As Felix Dennis (who was worth more than £750 million, and makes Alan Sugar look like a pauper) once said:

'If it flies, floats or fornicates, always rent it.. it's cheaper in the long run.'

;)

Too late. What do you think Tesco sells in their ready meals?

I am pretty sure there are only 12 owners badges per horse at the races. Unless you invest big I doubt you will get much of a look in. Prize money is so low at this level you won't be getting much back if anything.

Good bit of fun for some though.
