Own Brand Lime Cordial 1ltr - 28p Instore @ Tesco

Tesco Lime Cordial often appears to be on my shopping list. At 56p for a litre it is about half the price of the well known Rose's Lime Cordial.

In my local Tesco it is now 28p a bottle with a white shelf label, not sure if its a permanent price or store specific.

The bottle suggests you dilute one part cordial to 4 parts water, but obviously it depends how strong you like it. There are approx 20 servings per bottle. Personally i like it a little stronger than that. For children it is advisable to dilute much more.

This cordial drink is suitable for Vegetarians and is best served chilled with cold water.
The ingredients are water, 30% lime juice from concentrate, Glucose Fructose Syrup, Citric Acid, Flavourings, Sodium Citrate, Sweetners, Preservatives and Colouring.

If your not a fan of concentrated cordials why not try your own. I've tried it before but it costs more to make.

You will need at least a half-dozen large limes, sugar, boiling water and some food acid.

This cordial is excellent served used with one part of the lime syrup mixed with 4 parts (or to taste) of chilled water, lemonade or soda water.
Method:

6 large limes (or 8 small)
1.5kg (3lb) sugar
4 cups boiling water
1 tablespoon citric or tartaric acid
Finely grate the lime rind, taking care not to include any of the pith. Squeeze the juice from the limes and set aside.

Combine the lime rind, citric or tartaric acid, sugar and boiling water and mix well to dissolve the sugar. Add the reserved lime juice and mix through. Leave to stand until the mixture is cool (or overnight). Strain the mixture through a fine sieve (line the sieve with muslin if desired).
Pour into sterilised bottles and seal.

So whilst a lot fresher is a lot more expensive!
I think that this cordial tastes great and is good value for money. Whilst Roses Lime Cordial is possibly slightly nicer i'm not sure if it warrants double the price! YOu can still really taste the flavour of lime and is great to give water a bit of an extra taste. With recommendations that everyone should drink 2 litres of water a day there is no excuse, just put a dash of lime in and its a refreshing and fat free drink.

What else can you do with Lime cordial? Options are almost endless!!
Lime and water
Lime and soda (cheap option in the pub if you are driving or a non-drinker, usually only 60p)
Lime and Lemonade
Lime and Coke
Lager and Lime
Vodka Lime and Lemonade
Vodka and Lime on ice
Southern COmfort and lime on ice
Cocktails:
1. Lime Martini

3 parts Gin
2 prts Brandy
3 parts lime cordial
2. Lime Pie

5 parts vodka
1 part lime cordial
3 parts Pineapple juice
1 part fresh lime juice
3. Lime Ride

5 parts Gin
5 parts Tequilla
3 parts Lime Cordial
Wedge of Lime
So there's a few suggestions as to what you can do with your lime cordial. Enjoy a nice refreshing drink at a very reasonabel price. What's more is it comes in a plastic bottle... make sure you recycle it!!

All supermarket cordials are half the price of Rose's (which is the best by far), so not really a deal IMHO

Cats normally hate Citrus fruits. Mine can detect them 10 feet away and runs a mile if I move it towards her. How did they manage to do this pic?
