Heat awarded if only because it is one of the best drama TV series ever to come from HBO (and I include Sopranos). If you like Dexter you will LOVE this (although an entirely different premise.

Good spot, OP. Shame they don't seem to have the first 2 series though...

Yeah i have these put by for me, just trying to source 1 and 2 now, seems they arn't in the sale but can be had for under a tenner play trade looking forward to watching it, has some great ratings!!

Currently watching season 4 - the other seasons being 8 episodes but season 4 is 16 i think - double treat although I think the first 3 seasons were more gritty, this one seems to be popping in more people to just kill them off at times although its still a damn sight more hardcore than Emmerdale!

Schillinger v Beecher is just gripping....

Up there with The Wire - really great show.

Yes you are at the turning point of the series. First 3 seasons were far superior. The writers really ran out of ideas after season 4A (the first 8 eps of season 4), though 7 quid is still a good deal to complete the set. Its just disappointing how predictable this show becomes, like you said they just start "popping in more people to just kill them off", rubbish people might I add, characters with ham fisted back stories (or none at all most of the time) like Omar White, Burr Redding/ Redfield (I forget his name as he is that uninteresting) and the worst of all little nerdlinger scientist Idzic. Then you have the part timers like Method Man, Adam Guenzel and the spandex wearing mafia boss (who has been lifted straight out of the book of bad caricatures). Then there is the whole mismanagement of the recurring stories between the main characters and the all too often shankings of family members that are either visitors that seemingly have free reign to wander the halls of Oz without any guard supervision, or the countless brothers, mothers and sisters that get convicted and put into a cell with their sibling's enemy (who obviously end up dead 15 minutes after their introduction).

The next time I watch them through I'll probably stop after 4A as its a fantastic show up until then.

Do you only read the first and last parts of a comment?

1- I didn't say that Omar White was in it for less than 15 minutes. The whole 15 minutes bit was a completely different point about characters brought in to be killed in the same episode!

2- Omar White wasn't cool. I'm not going to discuss his plot as it may be deemed to be a spoiler, but he essentially did the same offend-then-redeem-himself-only-to-offend-again cycle over and over again. The character was meant to be an opportunist deluded killer of low importance (not really belonging to the homeboys) yet he was suddenly hit with morality once behind bars. In reality he would be the sort that just becomes more of a criminal and a repeat offender. Boring. Not a great actor either.

They should have stopped after 4A and maybe done a prequel episode with some of the earlier characters focusing on the Schibetta family and Jefferson Keane etc and maybe the opening of Emerald City. This would have been far more interesting than some of the drones aka characters they threw in towards the end and the absurd business practices that went on.

Let me know if you manage to find it in other stores, hmv has a system where they have some much stock allocated per store for sale, and so much at full price, so there may be some sale left......

Have to say I agree with some of these comments, I am currently at the end of series 4 and some of the story lines are a little farfetched. The storyline involving the (without giving away spoilers) the reverend and the hole springing to mind!

Everytime someone new comes in you expect them to be gone by the end of the next episode. You then start to lose any interest or connection with any of the characters.

All in all though it is a great show that is slightly ageing. Word of warning do not watch this if you are in anyway squeamish. Otherwise be prepared for male nudity, rape, drug taking, violence and death! :)

Thanks for the uncalled for insult.
I'm surprised you actually followed the show as I thought it was quite intelligent. I guess you were just entertained by the violence and swearing.

I think the dexter connection was based solely on the cast, a lot of Oz actors feature in Dexter. I would agree with what you say though, the shows are nothing like each other. This is why Dexter is on itv2 which as we all know is a channel for gawking proles who would not appreciate the quality of Oz, Sopranos, The Wire etc.

Not to criticise Dexter, it does its job and it isnt meant to be the same tone as the above.
