Band of Brothers producers Tom Hanks and Steven Spielberg re-team to produce this ten-hour World War II miniseries based on the books 'With the Old Breed' by Eugene Sledge and 'Helmet for My Pillow' by Robert Leckie. The series details the arduous odysseys of U.S. Marines, Sledge, Leckie, and John Basilone from their first skirmishes in Guadalcanal, through the rain forests of Cape Gloucester and across the perilous sands of Iwo Jima, to their eventual return to American soil following V-J Day. Additional interviews conducted by the filmmakers in collaboration with Hugh Ambrose (son of late Band of Brothers author Stephen E. Ambrose.

Appears to be a cardboard version? I didn't even know it existed I've only ever seen the tin. However, if it is a cardboard version, the tin is currently only £16.20 at Amazon and has been available cheaper, so cold from me I'm afraid.$_12.JPG

The difficult second album. Not as good as Band of Brothers but still brilliant. Personally it's the poorer cast but still harrowing.

Agreed. If you'd seen this without BoB it would have fared better, but up against a better "story" and cast it's always going to come off worse. There's been talk of a third series based around the USAF but I don't know whether that's still happening or not.

For some reason, think I'd prefer it in a tin. Bit like a "tin"of biscuits - never as nice from a box.

Thought the first shootout on this was intense with that Japanese fellow who refused to die. Not as good as Band of Brothers, but another true story nonetheless and still a very powerful and emotional series. Recommended.
