I picked up a pack over the weekend. I know there are bigger, cheaper packs in various places at the moment, but these are at least a recognisable brand.

did they have AAA's as well? thanks

If I'm honest, I didn't actually look. I whizzed in just to pick these up because I got a flyer through the door with a local paper. The flyer only advertised the AA's though. Sorry! :-(

Funnily enough I'm popping into Robert Dyas myself this evening after work. They always have offers on batteries, and it's normally a case of tossing up the various brand offers to see which works out the cheapest cost per battery. Best bet is to pop-in and browse, the offers are usually on AA and AAA but they also have C and D offers in there atm.

You can get packs of AA 12 from the pound shop for a quid so not sure this is such a good deal.

In any event as with inefficient light bulbs these should be made illegal, no reason for them with rechargeables so cheap.

they also have packs of 12 energizer "ultra+" AA, £7.99, buy one get one free.

This deal is energizer "classic" batts, that's why they're cheap whenever they come up on sale. The "ultra+" ones look very similar, but are basically energizer's equivalent of duracell plus as far as I know, last longer.

They have these in my local store:

so 16 instead of 24, but it's a pound cheaper.

also look out for pack of 16 duracell plus AAA for about the same price, which are better quality as above

:roll:You will not get 12 ALKALINE batteries in the pound shop for a £1.
And as it has been pointed out so many times before there are situations where rechargables are not suitable
