What would be the point of a swear filter if it did not do it's best to tackle infantile attempts to subvert it?

I think something is blocking the site.

Works fine for me via Be.

For those who can't get it, what are you seeing?

What message does your browser give you?

Does the browser window show DealExtreme in the browser window title?

I'm on O2, the O2 DNS server is blocking dealextreme?? Go figure, tried entering the IP address manually (75.126.181.176) but the browser still wasn't havng it.

Using a free proxy serivce eg hidemyass.com works or changing your DNS server to openDNS servers works wonders also.

I'm using OpenDNS too - which'd be why it's working for me.

To those who are having this trouble, try changing your computer to use the excellent OpenDNS service - http://www.opendns.com/ instead of your ISP's DNS service - there are instructions at OpenDNS for those who don't know what this means or how to do it.

DNS, Domain Name System, is the thing that translates computer names e.g. dealextreme.com, into the IP numbers that join the Internet together. Hope this helps..

Thanks for this. I use DealExtreme quite a bit but couldn't get in today. I looked at the OpenDNS site and the automatic setup option did not list the Thompson Speedtouch 585 V 7 as an option so I went into the manual steup. I then struggled to find an easy guide as to how to change my DNS settings.

Anyway - I got on to O2 and they said they don't block any websites but certain websites may need updating to be able to accept requests from O2. He told me how to set the OpenDNS TCPIPs (Control Panel/Network Connections/Properties/Use the following DNS server addresses) and it still didn't work. We previously tried the latest O2 DNS TCPIPs of 87.194.255.154 and 87.194.0.53 which obviously didn't work. Tried it all without my firewall and antivirus on too - but still no different. The first contact I had tried to change the O2 DNS box settings via 192.168.1.254 & Defalut Gateway but that wasn't having it at all - couldn't get past the first prompt.

So - looks a good deal - but I can't get on to order!!!

Set the DNS to two OpenDNS server IP numbers using the Control Panel/Network Connections/Properties/Use the following DNS server addresses option that you tried already, THEN restart your machine and try again.

The purpose of this is to ensure your machine and browser are actually using the new DNS info and not the cached info from your old DNS.

Then try it again. If it still doesn't work, go to the OpenDNS site - their home page tells you if you are using OpenDNS or not.

Hope this helps.

P.S. If you're not already using Firefox as your browser (as an alternative to Internet Explorer), get yourself over to www.mozilla.com and get Firefox!

If changing your DNS settings it too complicated (It isn't really), try a free web proxy service, eg www.hidemyass.com and use it to browse dealextreme.

OpenDNS setup for XP :
https://www.opendns.com/start/device/windows-xp

Vista

It wasn't too complicated once I knew where to look - but I didn't reboot and try again as per the instructions above. I'll give it a shot when I get home - if that doesn't work I'll try your even easier way. Cheers!

Assuming you trust hidemyass.com with your Paypal details etc. passing through their service... personally, I might use them to access stuff I couldn't otherwise access, but i wouldn't dream of paying for anything via a proxy service.

Do these fit snugly in the back of the DS for storage?

I bought some that didn't, so my son went through them quickly as they just fell out! lol

The DX discussion forum suggests that these are further to the snug side than the official ones...

http://www.dealextreme.com/forums/Default.dx/sku.21878~threadid.318713

"They're more difficult to get in / out of the NDSL but that also means that they are less likely to drop out of the slot during carriage."
