I know it is Packard Bell but this seems a fantastic price for a sub notebook - On par with Netbook prices yet includes Vista and a slightly more powerful dual core processor.

RAM and Hard drive could probably be bumped up quite easily.

Product code: 904068

I saw one in the Bradford store this lunchtime.

NOW reduced by £50!

>RAM and Hard drive could probably be bumped up quite easily.

But why pay over £300 for sometihng, and then pay extra to add memory and then all the hassle of buying and replacing the hard drive.

Why not buy one with 2Gb of memory and a decent hard drive in the first place.

It says it weighs 3.5 lbs.

Only half a pound heavier than the Macbook Air.
So that's its market segment.

Anything else this weight for less than £600?

Packard Bell is now owned by Acer, OK, some might not see it as bonus, but I really rate this for size and weight. Looks good in the flesh too.

Review seems to be positive, in particular build quality!

Only shortfall is battery life, which is a fair point and might be a deal breaker for some people.

is the packard bell call centre still based in holland? becuase that use to be the best reason to buy a packard bell just so that you could ring them up and listen them talk, lol.

what i would also say to anyone that buy this or any other packard bell, make sure that you fill in the registration card that comes with the machine becusae if you do not then when ring up the techguys call centre to request something from PB ie recovery disk you need to be registered with packard bell otherwise the request will not go through and the staff are normally that bad in the call centre they either do not have access to the program to register you themselfs or they have not been trained on how to use it and therefore your requested gets rejected and nobody bothers to ring to tell you this.

Packard Bell have a poor rep for custome service.

This is a good spot; a vey interesting machine, though battery power is rather important for a machine like this.

Now £279.97!

Just bought one of these yesterday from PC World for £279. Managed to get approx 1hr 40mins out of the battery life. This was:-
Boot up machine
Copy 700Mb Divx over wifi
Watch divx film off hard disk until battery ran out, whilst having wifi on and screen at default brightness and all other settings at default.

I was going to get a Samsung Nc-10, but was put off by the price hikes in December (argh!). So got tempted with this, which is around £50 cheaper and has a very nice 1200x800 screen - much better than the netbooks manage and also performance is much better overall.
I'd say it's a total bargain for the price, however, like the reviews, downsides:-
- battery life is not great,
- although the body is bigger than a netbook (it's almost exactly A4 in dimension) the keyboard is only about the same size as a 10" netbook!
- No scroll areas on the trackpad (since it's round!)
