is it just £370 with the 5% code? As when I click it it comes up £390

This sounds like a bit of a steal to me. Voted hot and repped (not like edi needs it much, but hopefully it is the thought that counts.)
#6
how does the nhs discount works? what if i use the code and yet i don't work for nhs?

I'm still waiting for them to deliver another refurb I got that had a 1.4 Celeron M (gig ram etc. aside from processor, very nice.)
http://www.hotukdeals.com/forums/showthread.php?t=51787&highlight=packard+bell
Basically they've ballsed up the delivery. You think I should maybe cancel it and chuck in an order for this hot lump of plastic?
PS. The other laptop was £284 and aside from the processor was identically specced. is it worth shelling out £100 for this?

PS. If the NHS code is a dud, try this FRESH05

love and rep :)

Great bit of kit for the price £359 after quidco.

Thank god - no vista!!!

Hi,
does anyone know what the RAM is expandable to (i.e. 2Gb) and what the combination of RAM is in it i.e. 2 x 512 or 1/ 1024 MB. Also does it have built in wireless internet capabilty?
#11
This looks like a good deal to me, hopefuly it will run Vista ultimate (since I already have a license).
#12
Guys,
You may also be eligable for a free vista upgrade.. try this..

Ordered one on Friday, recevied confirmation email, just waiting for it to be despatched now. Excellent spec for a excellent price. Thanks,
#15
Ordered one for a friend and came today BUT there are NO recovery disks or driver disk etc in the box just a manual.

Is this normal with the recon laptops form DSG???

Would have hoped a least it would have a recory disk.
#16
Be careful – It turns out they have sent a MV46-008 Intel 950 graphic (no tv out) instead of the MV45-008 ATI graphics.

Being collected and swapped, probably take days!, I wonder if they actually have any with ATI graphics????
#17
Hi thats unlucky, mine has been despatched today hopefully receive it tommorow and I hope it has ati graphics. Do you know the processor that came with the MV46 as they have one listed in the clearence section -
http://www.currys.co.uk/martprd/store/cur_page.jsp?BV_SessionID=@@@@1746219755.1174317783@@@@&BV_EngineID=cccladdkhdgehhecflgceggdhhmdgmj.0&page=Product&fm=1&sm=0&tm=4&sku=759221&category_oid=-27411
with only 512mb ram, 60gb but slightly better processor. Hopefully it's not these.

Also was the one you got "refurbished", you probably won't tell the difference.

Mine arrvied today, same problem - Intel gfx not ATI. How did you contact them to arrange a replacement?

Weird - On the packard bell site they have this model listed but still with ati graphics

The URL reference you quoted is for
Easynote MV46-008, whereas this is a MV45-008...

I cannot find the MV45-008 on their site.... also they do not recognise the serial number (unless I am going blind).

I just got through to customer service (0870 333 1222) who quoted aprox 5 days to deliver the 'courier return label' So about 1 1/2 weeks to get a replacement...

Let's hope this is not a website error and we get the same intel model again.

Just in case we do, do you know if this will run Vista premium aero stuff? Also how much should we get them to knock off the price for the lower spec?
Thanks

Also was the one you got "refurbished", you probably won't tell the difference.

It was delivered in a big brown box with a plain flat brown box inside labelled as ‘MV45-008 Recon’, all specs listed on label were correct except for graphics, listed as intel 950.

I haven’t actually seen it, as ordered for a friend but says it looks new, has plastic protective screen cover etc but has no cds and manual looks a bit creased. He was really pleased until I explained about the graphics.

Oh sorry, I was referring to a previous post where he said he received a MV46-008. Johnyb can you confirm - have you actually checked the graphics card on the laptop under system information or is it just in reference to the specification label. Thanks,
#24
I googled the mv5-008 and looks like it has happened before.
http://forum.notebookreview.com/showthread.php?t=97139

Same tel number as you but said 2/3days for label then would have to the get DHL to collect next day.

Both will run aero but don’t know how smoothly, ATI should do a better job.

Remember to get vista you had to purchase by the 15/03/07 and register before 31/03/07.

Box label only and there is no ATI label. He has not started it.

There is no Core2duo label either so - could be??? Will pop round tonight and have a look.

Johynb - did you start yours??
#26
Ok thanks, looked at the website you posted and people said you don't get an ati 200 on intel chipsets only amd. I had a look on the ati site and you get it for both, most of the packard bell laptops on the packard bell site have ati graphics also.

(Just got back from PC World and they have admitted that they have been advertising there product WRONG its has not got a ATI express 200 graphics card in these machine and they will reduce the PC price or give you your money back.)

Not much hope!!!
#29
how much are they reducing the price by?
#30
Johnyb

Did you get any recovery cds or just a manual & quick start guide like my one.

No recovery CD's, but you can create a recover DVD / CD's from the laptop. You just need a blank DVD....

Team,
Just incase anyone is interested I installed Vista Ultimate on this laptop and the following benchmark scores resulted:-

Processor: 4.7
RAM: 4.3
GFX: 3.1
Gaming: 3.1
HDD: 4.6

So lowest score 3.1 is overall.... Not too bad. Seems to allow all the aero capabilities
#33
Ive ordered one and its being shipped today, did everyone who ordered get the ATI Graphic card and if not are they getting it exchanged?
#34
aye, need to know if this laptop is worth buying even though they come with intel 950 graphics and not ATI

johhnb, does the aero work ok yeh? and how is vista ultimate on the laptop? any slow downs at all?
#35
oh, one more thing does this laptop have WIFI?
1 Like #36
Yes it does have wifi, I have ordered one myself should be delivered tommorow and am hoping for the ati graphics card as it is slightly better and has tv-out. This is still an excellent deal and you will not find another laptop with that processor and memory etc for under £359 which is the price after quidco cashback.

To be honest it's my first try with Vista, but I played a dvd, and did the thing where you scroll the available windows in 3D and it still played fine.
#38
Did anyone who ordered one manage to get theirs returned for one with a ATI card?

Got my hands on the one I ordered for my friend last night. Definitely good value even if it can’t be swapped for a ATI one. He wants TV-out!! So still waiting for the collection labels

Few points
Has USB, NIC, VGA, Audio in & out SPDIF, (no TV-out, com port, PCIMA or modem).
Hard drive is IDE not SATA.
T5200 is cheaper version of T5500, FSB at 533mhz instead of 667 of the T5500.
Haven’t seen any thing on battery life, showed fully charged (can’t be sure), lasted just over 2hrs of heavy load.
Small charger, branded Delta, this got a little hot, not sure if this is the original one or not?
Has hidden partition for recovery so you can set it back to factory defaults at a single click. (Which I did for return, takes about 30mins).

Only negative point is the wireless connection seemed quite poor only showed two bars, other 2 laptop I have at home show 3&4 bars, did work flawlessly though.
