For your chance to win an Xbox and a copy of The Incredibles game simply answer the following question:

What is Mr Incredible's primary super power?

Speed or Strength or Elasticity?

There will also be copies of the game on PS2 for 10 runners up!

Very good deal.

i had something similar for may retired parents just before Chrstmas similar price but only 512 am and64mb graphics, so this is an excellent price.

And yes my folks was a recon, but it was mint, including the screen protector, so the recon bit should not bother anyone, still got the full warranty.....

I sent one back just, had scratches on the lid and only worked for an hour and wouldnt boot, saying that I would still buy one, they are made by NEC.

Also bought one for daughter at xmas now that was as new, and still is.

Also available on the Dixons website for £299 dead. If you can add something for £1 you can use the £15 off voucher (1530043) to bring the price down to £285 and then if you have an egg card get 5% instant cashback which means you only pay £270.75...

Cheapest thing I have found over £1 is a 4 pack of AA batteries (PHILIPS POWERLIFE Batteries (product code) 975863 for £1.69

got an equivalent ones of these before xmas for my daughter (same spec + recon) it was totally unmarked and as new. It has turned out to be a great deal & she has had no problems - only downside is battery duration but if your using it as a desktop replacment no probs.

If you need a laptop you could do much worse than opting for this bargan!

I don't understand either - if you go to the Currys web site they have dozens of laptops all reconditioned - its rather worrying really - where did they come from? Were they originally faulty? Did the previous owners mistreat them? If they were simple 'returns' then fine but to recondition them I think they should supply a history of what work was actually carried out.

Could be a batch from suppliers that had dodgy motherboards so they got replaced before being sent out, but had to break original packaging etc.

Why, if its fully guaranteed and is in good condition, why do you need to know its history.

Yes it could be a faulty one that has been repaired or a customer returm, but if you trawl around the net you will find one of the min Packard Bell service centres also sell these including on eBay and they are all fully tested, so in some ways a better bet that fresh of the NEC production line in China with only basic testing!
#19
And another nice thing about these, they are black !!

So they do not show every mark ike the "trendy" silver paintd ones, so will keep there appearance much better.

Well worth the money

Agreed, refurbs have a much lower return rate than factory fresh units, the QC standards are far higher.

Also a lot of these could be display stock cleared from shelves to make way for newer Vista models.

I don't understand how people don't understand how a laptop costing £285 with a 60gb hard drive, 1gb of RAM, a decent (1mb cache) processor and 12 month warranty isn't a bargain.

Find one better and post it up if you don't understand.

Same reason muggles buy brand new £18k Ford Mondeos and think the autotrader is top shelf filth.

Hi,

just went to Dixons site & it looks like they have put the price up to £329.99 now! :w00t:

So if you want one grab it now off the Curry's site.

Good spot though.

Well done op.

I get the impression that DSG are offloading all their Packard Bell XP loaded PCs and laptops as refurbs to clear stock.
#25
well cheap for a PB lappy...

voted hot.
#26
Anyone know if this will run vista ok? I would like to install it so assume the spec would be sufficient?

If they were ex-display they would be classed as new - not refurbs.

it would run vista basic but not sure about premium?

Got the Dell 6400 Offer last week, but my work offered to buy it off me on the proviso I could still use it for personal use. *sigh* to good to be true and they'e le tme know that since it won't be covered out of office I can't take it home :x
On the other hand, Better graphics (I think, not to hot on lappy cards), no dual core but I'm WOW man myself, and If my poopy old P4 Emachine will run it I'm damn sure this will.:-D Not gonna sell this one on ;)
But thanks for the tip of!

from www.dictionary.com

'bargain' - an advantageous purchase, esp. one acquired at less than the usual cost

unless you can find a similar spec unit cheaper?

Open boxes are not (and I think cannot be) classed as new, even if they've never been used. Most A-grade refurbs are ex-display items.

A good spec for the price for sure, and i don't want to burst anyone sbubble, but at the heart of that machine is a Celeron processor, and quite frankly, Celerons stink!

Give it anything even slightly processor demanding and it'll roll onto its back and die.:-(

that's what i was thinking. but everyone seems to think that celeron is not an issue.
#34
I just typed this on my celeron no probs, what more do people on here want? Do they do anything else?
#35
For general "typing", yes, a Celeron is fine, but they generally have a smaller cache, and lack a maths co-processor. So try and do any graphic design or even light gaming, and everything will slow right down.

Basically, you can have all the RAM and HDD capcaity in the world, but without a half dedcent processor you wont get very far. Likewise could be said for a decent processor, but no RAM, you need quality in both for it to work well.
#36
i find that even a pentium M with 1.6Ghz processor is just acceptable in browsing 3 web pages and watching movie at the same time. with a celeron i just couldn't imagine how it will drag along with my response.
#37
And there was me editing a DVD, updating 2 websites, playing around in photoshop, chatting on Skype and browsing 4 different web pages simultaneously on mine.
Maybe Acer have their own special non-cr*p celeron chip.

For general "typing", yes, a Celeron is fine
- In 26 years of using computers I think that is the funniest thing I've ever read! My ZX81 was pretty good at typing also, as long as you didn't wobble it at all, things have moved on a bit recently guys...

...unless you really, really, must fight the evil trogloid orc king with the mighty harbinger of death at 99.99999 frames per second.
#38
Celeron processors aren't as good as Pentium 4s - of course.
But the Celeron M has 1mb of cache, and I reckon most computer users would be hard pushed to pick out the difference between this laptop and one twice the price.

This place doesn't half have it's snobs. "why's that a bargain" "I'm struggling to see why...."

Get your head out your bums and post up a better bargain while you're taking the pish.

All gone, for now.
