Vista is just a naff OS. It hogs your system, is unstable, and has device driver compatibility issues. I ran Vista for 4 months and it drove me nuts it was so unstable and buggy. I downgraded to Windows XP and my life became normal again. Windows 7 is excellent.

I would be happy to buy a laptop with XP or Windows 7 ... but Vista, no thanks.

How much will windows 7 cost - any good sites for this?
Also if I load up Win 7 - will all the pre-loaded software be erased?

This is something I'd like to know. I guess there are some people out there that know how to get a hooky copy of Windows 7. Personally, I prefer to steer clear of this stuff. I want my updates and I don't want problems. I always presume it would cost something in the region of £50 to £70 for a copy of windows 7, therefore, it makes sense just to buy a new laptop with it preloaded. Saves a heap of hassle. So whilst this is a good deal in terms of spec, the fact it comes with vista is a complete turn off for me personally.

May I suggest this deal http://www.argos.co.uk/static/Product/partNumber/5082432/Trail/searchtext%3ESAMSUNG+R519.htm , which comes with a similar spec, Windows 7, a 3 year warranty, a free laptop bag and mouse, and Samsung is a far better manufacturer than Packard Bell. Plus if you spend over £100, Argos will give you a £10 voucher, and with quidco you get another 1.5% off.

Great reply - thanks. The Samsung offer looks great but I need a HDMI link

No probs. Lack of HDMI on the Samsung is the only downer, but I think you can purchase USB or VGA to HDMI adapters for £20 to £30 on the internet, maybe less if you look hard. It's a useful thing to have for all your computers, so a worthwile adapter to own and removes the only barrier for you to purchase the Samsung laptop. Hope this helps.

PS. I am not 100% sure if I am right about this after doing further research. I saw a product on ebay item no 350321473835 which may be suitable, but on the flip side read this article: http://www.theanswerbank.co.uk/How-it-Works/Question729515.html

Maybe someone more technically savvy can come up with suggestions on this.

Vista- buggy, slow, sucks power. Basically.

If you are looking at the £400 mark, you can use one of the 10% voucher codes and free delivery code at Very (valid on electricals), you can get the Samsung R530-JA01UK for around £405, which is a better deal in my opinion. (4Gb RAM/320Gb HDD/2.1Ghz Pentium T4300 Dual Core, Win 7 and HDMI) + potential 9% quidco.

Or you can pay £417ish at Amazon if you dont like Very.

Yes, I need to know this too. I have a Win7Ultimate disc, so would this install straight over Vista?
