Hot if you've got a copy of win7 handy

Wow super hot! Such a shame it's not Windows 7 though.

Everything else looks spot on, although what's this edge to edge screen all about?
#3
wow hot, is the graphics card any good for gaming ?
#4
It all depends on the game really, I would say it's great at this price though...

no, it's not good for gaming, it's barely faster than some integrated graphics
#6
The GFX card will really struggle with DirectX 10 games, but older ones (HL2, FC) should be fine. Shame about the resolution too.

For the price though, this is a very good buy.

DO you guys think this packard bell is better than this?:

http://www.amazon.co.uk/Acer-15-6-inch-Notebook-Dual-Core-Processor/dp/B0030GESMW/ref=pd_ts_ce_4?ie=UTF8&s=electronics

I have £400 to spend, what should I buy? Can only buy on Amazon btw.

I'd be very careful ordering any laptops with the Nvidia G series graphics - nasty tendancy to pack up after a years use, rendering your laptop useless...http://www.tomshardware.com/news/Nvidia-GPU-failure,6248.html

Terrible processor. I'm sure for £400 you can buy a laptop with a much better processor. Try Dell

There's also another great bargain on Amazon for a 17" with BluRay for £449

Good advice, but as far as I can tell the G105M uses the G98M core, so shouldn't be affected by this issue.

Video Adapter nVIDIA GeForce G 105M
GPU Code Name G98M
PCI Device 10DE-06EC / 1025-0167 (Rev A2)
Process Technology 65 nm
Bus Type PCI Express 2.0 x16 @ x1
Memory Size 512 MB
GPU Clock (Geometric Domain) 182 MHz
GPU Clock (Shader Domain) 364 MHz
RAMDAC Clock 400 MHz
Pixel Pipelines 4
TMU Per Pipeline 1
Unified Shaders 16 (v4.0)
DirectX Hardware Support DirectX v10
Pixel Fillrate 728 MPixel/s
Texel Fillrate 1456 MTexel/s

Memory Bus Properties

Bus Type DDR2
Bus Width 64-bit
Real Clock 100 MHz (DDR)
Effective Clock 200 MHz
Bandwidth 1600 MB/s

:edit:

Btw, for the price this is a very good machine.

That article dates back to August 2008 - don't you think that they have solved the issue by now?

Or put Linux on it, which I would do. Nvidea are considered far better Linux drivers than ATI.

Seems like a lot of laptop for the money: graphics, eSATA, wireless N, gigabit ethernet, LED-backlit screen, Bluetooth, webcam - or perhaps things have just moved on a bit since I bought my last laptop for £1000 in 2004!

H&r :)

What about extended warranty?

I am loathe to buy a laptop without a 3 year warranty.

I'd just leave the Vista HP on it, with 4 GB of RAM I doubt if there's much difference in usability or speed for most apps. Looks like a lot of laptop for the money.

Cheers, just ordered.

Could anyone comment on whether for £40 more, the Dell i3 is a better system (faster CPU but with 3Gb RAM and a 250Gb HD)?
#24
When are the stocks of Vista machines going to run out ???
I don`t want Vista - it`s crap.

Despite the loss of 1gb ram and 250gb hard drive, the processor is better, and probably less power hungry, also it comes with the newer ddr3 ram, and dells customer service is very good and thus id probably go for the dell.

The i3's on-chip gpu will be inferior to a G105M though.

Hard to say which will be better.

Agreed, but if your not going to play games I would say it wouldnt really matter. And thr G105M is a pretty crappy GPU anyhow.
#28
Seems like a very good deal for the price. Might get this over a netbook at least it will hangle HD video easily

Delivery estimate: 17 Mar 2010 - 24 Mar 2010 - nearly 3 weeks ;-)

Good price Any one know where to get technical spec for this model ? Tried google and Packard bell website
PB site do not have this model listed or I have gone blind following Nokia X6 deal

Just need to see Memory slot details if in future we want to upgrade to 8GB

I have one of the laptops with said issue - a Dell XPS M1530 with Geforce 8600M GT and it absolutely fine. Last BIOS update updated the fan cooling cycles and I've never had an issue.

i really want to get one with a HDMI out port. but my limit is around £350. Do you think i can get as good as specs with hdmi for this price? or is this the best ill get?

I must admit I don't slavishly follow every laptop deal here, but I think you'd be hard pushed to get a better spec. laptop anywhere for this money.

The nearest equivalent 1545 I can find ( 4GB RAM, 500 GB HDD, T4400 ) is 450 quid?

OK it does have Win7 for the Vista haters ...
#39
Damn, I am so tempted to order one.... allthough I just ordered a new battery for my old Dell....
This site is costing me so much money
