You'll have trouble getting heat on anything non Dell on this site. It's bizarre but true.

And that is Packard Bell's fault?

I know you don't want to hear this 'after the event' lilsmithy but when its important there are 3 words to remember....

BACK IT UP!

Don't get me wrong. I'm not being sanctimonious. I learned the hard way too!

well when you've spent nearly a grand on a PC which is only a few months old, you shouldn't need to back up. Anyways exam boards only require back ups to be located in a separate folder not on a different hard disk.

Thanks for the help Blasphemous, il give it a go later

Of course you need to back up no matter what you paid for the computer. It's for your own good and for this exact eventuality. Components DO fail within their warranty period.

Thats the daftest thing I've heard for a long time. What if the hard disk fails as in this case? Like I said it's for your OWN good and you've learned from experience. I'm sure you'll back up in future.
