It also seem that Currys have the specs wrong for the T1400 processor - although it is confusing because Intel have two processors labelled T1400 - but the Celeron Dual Core T1400 appears to be a 1.73 GHz processor not 1.83 GHz.

I was thinking of getting this for my daughter for the internet, homework, msn facebook etc. I have a budget of £300 is this a good choice? the one in Tesco is sold out, but obviously want to get the best for my money.
Thanks

i bought 2 yeasterday for my kids and was cheeky enough to ask them to throw in 2 lap top bags aswell. i emailed matt above ref his message as i am not too up on computer specs and this was his reply -----
It will be more than adequate for most things. The only problem is likley to be with 3D games. We don't have any bought games but my kids (OK and me) play Adventure Rock (off CBBC), some Mountain Biking game that was available from CBBC while the Olympics were on and a free flight simulator game. None of these are particularly demanding 3D games but even so the graphics card in this laptop might make them difficult to play. So it's not the type of thing I would get for my kids.
If you want to see a comparison of laptop graphics card performance see here:
http://www.notebookcheck.net/Mobile-...ist.844.0.html
The graphics card in this laptop is the Mirage 3+ at number 153. Most sub £300 laptops will have an Intel X3100 card - number 132.

its very very basic and very run of the mill.
at least buy some decent antivirus or a copy of office from somewhere so your kids arent too disappointed with this toss on Xmas day.
just seems no one is prepared to spend any decent money on a good quality laptop anymore.
probs cos in 2 weeks time they'll be obsolete and new models out!

DABS have this Toshiba L300-1AD Cel-M 575 for £307 with GMA 4500 graphics. Although its only single core it has a higher clock speed, more L2 cache which is important at high clock speeds and hhas a higher speed memory bus. The 4500 graphics card is significantly better than the others.

ebuyer have a HP Sempron 2GHz laptop for about £299 which has an even better graphics but the Sempron processor is a bit suspect.
ebuyer did have this one available for £213 which seems a good balaance between CPU & 3D and it might be worth seeing if it comes back into stock Monday

Dell have increased their Outlet discount to £100 on (returned) Vostro and Inspiron laptops so might be some good deals there, say £230 for a 2GHZ celeron with X3100 graphics.
