Nice deal, interested in buying

but there seems to be a problem when I add it to basket, it also automatically adds the 'symantic' software which is priced at £29.99, there is no option at the basket to remove this item.

Do you know how this software can be removed?

Thanks in advance

Thanks typeRterror for your help, going to order it right now. I will also be going through quidco for another £13 discount bringing it down to £347.

Once I receive it and if I decide to keep it, I'm thinking of selling the 'Microsoft Windows XP Home' operating disks as I already have one set 'Microsoft Windows XP PRO' which I want to upgrade to.

Do you know if I'm allowed to do that?
or will that void the warranty?

Regards
Muhammad

I think the XP Home might be pre-installed and there might not be any discs with it anyway Muhammad. I don't think it would void the warranty if the XP Pro is a valid and legal copy. Please let us know how the laptop performs :-D Thanks.

Laptop Purchased

right, firstly Thank You Rayman for the original post, I have been looking for a cheap but reliable laptop (although haven't received it yet) which I can use around my house.

secondly, Thank You kevinyork for the information about the reconditioned laptop, 'as thats the one I went for.

Total priced paid £303.97, have'nt purchased a reconditioned item before so hopefully everything should go well.

Thanks Guys for everything reps given

That's a great price and usually if they're refurbished, they're as good as new :) Plus you have the full year warranty with it.

Good luck!

I hate to put a downer on this deal, but if i was you I'd avoid sempron, with so many good deals on turion and centrino at the mo i'd go for one of them. Ive got a 1.8ghz sempron (3000+) with 768mg ram and its pretty slow.

Thanks Muhammad but as I said I just repeated an earlier post which seemed to go overlooked for some reason so credit needs to go to MIKET the original OP for this post HERE

I too ordered one of these refurbished ones for a friend looking for a cheap laptop and for the spec it seems a great price. Good thing with Currys is if you get it and are not happy you can simply take it to any store for a full refund within 14 days.

SAM0483 do you have details of any of these great deals you mention on Turion/Centrino laptops so people can make a comparison?

Thanks again kevinyork and credit to MikeT for the other Packard Bell post ;-)

sam0483 all feedback is appreciated, so no need to apologize for stating your opinion :) I don't think you would get a Turion or Centrino for £304 at the moment though  But if you can point us to one or two of them, that would be great :-D

hello. 1st time poster, short time lurker

is this the best deal at the moment on a sub £400.00 laptop?

i'm looking for one for a 17/18 year old for general use and to take to Uni with him next year.

if there are other offers out there could someone be good enough to link me?

needs to be new, the lads mum wont buy recon etc, rightly or wrongly.

also, is it right...buy from Curry's online and if you're not happy, return to a store for a full refund?

thank you.

The other Packard Bell is probably the better deal, as the above spec posted by kevinyork :)

Welcome to HotUKDeals by the way ;-)

Yeah, if you buy online using the discount codes and through QuidCo, you'll save the most in the long run. Plus returning it if need be shouldn't be a problem, although I've never had to do that with Currys...

That's not down to the CPU. The Turion simply has more cache, and may run cooler depending on the model of the Sempron (older Semprons used 62W compared to 25W or 35W of the Turions; newer Semprons are either 25W or 35W). There are definite benefits to the Pentium M over the Celeron, however. The Celeron does not have SpeedStep, so constantly runs at full speed. A Pentium M adjusts its clock speed depending on the task, so you get much better battery life (about 2 hours extra for the same laptop base). I'm not sure if this is still true for the Yonah Celerons (420 etc); certainly is for the 370 and 380.

Yes why pay £50 more for a laptop with lesser specs? The recon one still comes with a 12 months warranty and all recon items Ive bought have been as new. If you got it and it wasnt-take it back as below. Its as likely to go wrong as a new one, in fact you could say if its been refurbed due to a fault then it may now be less likely to go wrong....that make sense??

Here are Currys terms for returns:

You can cancel your purchase at any time either before or up to 7 working days* following the day the goods are delivered.
You can do this by:
- returning the product to one of our stores with your receipt and bringing the card you paid with so we can credit it, or
- emailing us at "] [email protected] if you ordered online or "] [email protected] if you ordered by phone to request that we collect the product, or
- phoning us on 0870 333 1222 with your order reference number and delivery details to hand
* “working days” means all days other than Saturday, Sunday and Public Holidays

"Your product must be complete and in 'as new' condition e.g. if you have opened the box to examine the product you must have done so without damaging or marking the product or packaging. The product must not have been used or installed. It should be returned with the original box and packaging, along with any accessories you received with it. Pre-recorded videotapes, DVDs, CDs, minidiscs, memory cards and software must still be sealed. Any free gifts received with the product must also be returned.
If you follow the above steps, we will issue you with a full refund for the cost of the product and any delivery charge you paid."

Also:

"You will always have the option of an exchange or refund if a fault occurs within 28 days of delivery"

Finally, though its a good spec it isnt any good for the latest games. You would have to pay a few hundred more to get one to do that.
