Bought this today. Showing as £29.97 on the website, saw it in store (Leicester Hamilton) at £9.97. Scanned at checkout as £14.97 but they were happy to correct to shelf sticker price.

PS. they also have the Hitachi 500Gb 2.5in portable drives at £59.97 (not to be confused by those who don't know with larger 3.5in powered drives). They are £70 at e-Buyer.

Good program as this is, anyone interested should be aware that it does install a third party program, some might descirbe as spyware and may object to. It atually collects licence information for this and other programs you may have installed on your PC. It installs without the users' consent and is very difficult to get rid of.

'The program is ' PSIService.exe' , listed under Windows services as ProtexisLicensing. Written by Protexis, this runs in the background and collects licensing information. This program communicates with a remote host.'

Worth googling before you commit.

Further to your info wicasa, here's how disable/uninstall PSIService: http://www.mydigitallife.info/2009/07/19/how-to-disable-and-uninstall-protexis-licensing-service-psiservice-exe/

This is nothing on the industry standard Photoshop; just pirate it, but make sure you buy it when you can.

Of course, if you only want to sharpen a few photos, remove some red eye, then this may be for you, but it's probably worthwhile downloading GIMP or similar (which is free).

Just my opinion.

for many people, irfanview will do the key things - crop, rotate(lossless jpeg*), print, thumbnails & contact sheet - it's free and easy to use.

* if you're loading images into an editor, rotating and saving them, you're losing picture quality.

If you don't like Kia cars, steal a Ferrari but don't forget to pay back the original owner when you can.

installing software you didn't buy is NOT THEFT

it's copyright violation, which is still a criminal act :viking:

theft is a specific legal term meaning to deprive someone of their property, whereas software piracy is not taking property. the only time it would be theft is if you went into a shop and stole a package.

I am not condoning software piracy (and piracy is a pretty crap term for this) :pirate:

sorry to get on my high horse.

Is this better or worse than Photoshop Elements?

Guys

check out google picasa. Its amazing for photo managment and upload to a free google website if you want. We make videos with it, it does face recognition, integrates with facebook, slideshows, tagging of locations, lots of cool features and costs zilch.

[URL="http://picasa.google.com"]

http://softporal.ucoz.ru/Images8/Picasa_wm.jpg
Wiki says Picasa is a software application for organizing and editing digital photos, originally created by Idealab and owned by Google since 2004.[1] "Picasa" is a blend of the name of Spanish painter Pablo Picasso, the phrase mi casa for "my house" and "pic" for pictures (personalized art).[1][2] In July 2004, Google acquired Picasa and began offering it as a free download.[1][2] At the time of the acquisition, the company's management team consisted of Lars Perkins as CEO, Mike Herf as CTO, and Dan Engel as VP Market Development.
Native applications for Windows XP, Windows Vista and Mac OS X are available through Google Labs. For Linux Google has bundled Wine with the Windows version to create an installation package rather than write a native Linux version. For Windows 98 and Windows Me, only an older version is available. There is also an iPhoto plugin or a stand-alone program for uploading photos available for Mac OS X 10.4 and later.

Back up to nearly £30 :-(

I will catch this deal one day!

Paint shop pro was/is a nice program. It also used to contain animation shop which was used to make animated icons for instance. Pity about the 'spyware' in the latest version(s)

You're being pedantic. It's a crime which ever way you want to slice it and I believe that was the point Agharta was trying to make.

No problem mate and yeah you're right, it is very cheeky of Coral to be installing software on any PC that the owner hasn't agreed to.

I purchased this last time Tesco had it on offer.

Lets explain the difference between piracy and theft for you:

http://i28.tinypic.com/2m7xd85.jpg

Paint shop pro has nowwhere near the functionality or features of photoshop elements - hell, it can't even touch The Gimp.

You'd be much better off using Picasa, Paint.NET, or the online service Picnick than paying £9.95 of your own money to be infected with this spyware piece of crud.

Any chance you could give a brief outline of the diference between PaintShop Pro Photo X2 and Photoshop elements..
ie. what can elements do that PSP can't...

I would also be interested to know.

I purchase the PSP Ultimate last week from Amazon for £32 after reading the reviews for both ps elements and psp. So far I am very happy with the ease of use of psp.

You’ve focussed on the irrelevant part of the posting; the legal differences between the two forms of illicit activity don’t interest me but I see they do you.
I was however amused by the idea of someone browsing a deal for £10 editing software and then deciding instead to use a pirate copy of Photoshop whilst they save up the £500+ to buy a legit copy. LMAO. :)

You didn't understand what I said. Photoshop is for professional use, Paint Shop Pro is not, yet some people think it is. If you require the professionalism of Photoshop, you're better off downloading it illegally and then buying a license somewhere down the road with the money made through it's usage, i.e. photography, graphics. If not, download GIMP or similar.

How about the previous version for free ?

On 2nd thoughts don't bother - they've stopped that & now offering some other rubbish for free....

The new Version X3 just hit my inbox from Corel.....@....£79..

I think that PSP X2 is absolutely brilliant software. I much prefer it over photoshop and it allows me to do all the things that I need to do. The official youtube tutorials are great too.

The 'Carver' and 'Object Remover' tool on the X3 version looks amazing too
