First post to these forums, so don't be too harsh :P

I was reading through the paper this morning, and noticed what i thought was a rather good deal, for only £5 you can enjoy a full days paintballing at one of 32 locations in the UK

The £5 entitles you to:
use of the facilities for a full day which entails 8 games
full equipment hire,
hot lunch and refreshments
100 free paintballs.

Of course you have to buy additional paintballs, but this is a very cheap price

To get this offer simply go to http://www.ukpaintball.co.uk/thesun

Also for those speaking about how its expensive for paintballs, you can play the 1 game using your free 100 paintballs and leave. . . . Plus the meal and drinks probably cost £5 anyway.

Locations are: Bangor, Basingstoke, Billericay, Bournemouth, Bristol, Canterbury, Edinburgh, Exeter, Finmere, Gatwick, Glasgow, High Wycombe, Ipswich, Leeds, Leicester, Lincoln, South London, North London, Newcastle, Northampton, Nottingham, Redditch, Rochester, Sheffield, Sidcup, Southampton, Stockton-on-tees, Stoke, Swansea, Thetford, Warrington and Wolverhampton

that looks a fantastic deal - my son is 12 and desperate to go paintballing - anyone know anywhere in Essex that caters for this age range??

heat and rep left.

Hmmm people are voting cold? I know this isn't everyones cup of tea, but it's a good deal for anyone wanting to go paintballing. . .
#3
voted hot, but shame there isnt one anywere near me
#4
Decent deal, but it would be better if I could find out the location of the paintball centre.
#5
Cheap to start but total rip off with there paintballs £6 to £8 per 100 you can buy 2000 for around £30 off ebay.No doubt there gas refills will be a fortune too.
#6
Hilly, i have added the locations to my initial post

Nah, I know the 'location location' (God I sound like Kirstie Allsopp :) ) But what I meant was...whereabouts in Newcastle, Exeter, Sheffield etc...
#8
Ah i get you, sorry can't help you on that :P

I've tried this and it wasn't as much fun as I thought it would be. Perhaps getting soaked and shot in the finger - which is incredibly sore - has put me off. If you don't mind pain, then this is the one for you. I wouln't do this even if I got paid to do it!
#10
The Lincoln site is great.

I went in September and it only cost me £40 for the whole day. it will be even cheaper now.
#11
The price is HOT but the weather this time of the year is 'COLD!!!'

Don't forget your thermals ;)
#12
this isnt a great deal, usually around £10 last few times i went. and costs about £50-£100 depending on how much you use.
so in the scale of things you not saving very much.
probably better paying a little bit more and having more sites to choose from, there are some amazing sites around and some not so good.
#13
Its always very cheap to get into Paintballing. But they way they make their money is on the paintballs itself. I've bene twice, and both time's spent £60 on paintballs!
And i'm not even trigger happy!

If each person spends £60 on the paintballs, x 20, well i'm sure you can do the math!

Plus they dont allow you to bring paint balls from outside, as the ones they sell on the day are a particular colour. Get caught bringing in paintballs and they throw you out!
#14
The voucher is valid for 1 year.
#15
Of course is a good deal... its at least half price.

Just cause you have to pay extra for paintballs does not make this a bad deal.

Do you think about how much electricity prices are when buying a new cheap telly?
#16
If a group of you go, buy the paintballs in bulk.

It's normally about £8 per 100 paintballs, but by buying in bulk you can get that down to as low as £5 per 100 paintballs.
#17
your saving yourself about £5 (if that) and limiting yourself to a select bunch of sites.
dont go here just to save £5 pick somewhere you want to go look on hte websites and find out about the sites.
some places have better equipment and guns, better layouts and games. for the money you save you could spend lots more on petrol going the furhter distance.
its well worth looking around and finding the best place that suits you.

if this place is good for then great. but could be worth spending a little more to ensure you have a great day.

Seconded. It's the same way HP makes money on printers - it's the refills that cost you an arm and a leg. It's quite cynical the way the 'referees' encourage you from the beginning to fire paintballs like there's no tomorrow - purely so you'lll have to go to the shop to buy more.

I did my son's 12th birthday at a Delta Force place just outside the M25. For one day, of six sessions, calculate 600 balls per player, and buy half in the morning and half after lunch. Don't buy any more. That way the players know to ration themselves (although you can tell them if they want to bring money to buy more it's up to them). Don't bother with the 'ammo pods' worn on webbing belts - they cost a fortune to fill and are a pain to schlep around. You'll need a locker because if you buy a box of ammo and leave it out in the rest area it will get pilfered by other teams or 'tidied up' by the organisers so you have to buy more.

The paint grenades are useless. I didn't try the smoke grenades. There are 'armoured' gloves you can buy but I didn't and never got hit in the hand (luckily).

Most of the kids had great fun but there are always a few morons who like shooting strangers at point blank range when the 'refs' aren't looking - and believe me it f**king hurts. So be sure at the beginning to pick up the free foam 'body armour' they give out with the boiler suits. They give it automatically to women, because getting shot in the tits at any range really stings, but if you're taking kids aged around 12 insist they wear some as well, or there will be tears before home time.

You might want to bring a roll of masking tape and a marker so you can give your team name tags to wear on their boiler suits. You know, 'Dead Meat', 'Axeman' that sort of thing.

The 'refs' make a big fuss about how strict they are but in fact they are mostly bored teenagers who don't give a toss, so don't bother complaining about idiots on your team or the opposition, and don't bother asking them to judge if you've been hit. Just run around like an idiot and have fun.

I thought it was exhausting, sweaty and expensive. My son thought it was bloody brilliant. :)

Yep, Not a great offer its just a marketing ploy to get you in.
sounds and looks cheap and a good deal. but actually its not

Once they have you there they charge a lot for paintballs as mentioned. so in the end can cost you upto extra £100

I would search around and find a package deal where around 800 paintballs are included will save you a lot of money.

Ive been paintballing twice and it can be costly, if you have an itchy trigger finger.

calculate 600 balls per player, and buy half in the morning and half after lunch.

I should have said, buy them all first thing in the morning, as the other poster suggested, you'll get them cheaper. Then give out half the ammo in the morning and half after lunch. A half-full ammo hopper will get you through one session easily, if you don't go mad...

And I should have also said, multiply the cost of 600 paintballs by the number of guests and it will give you some idea of what the party will cost...

It says there is one in Ipswich, which is the next town to Colchester, which so happens to be Essex :), so you could get the train or drive to Ipswich in a very short amount of time, takes like 15- 20 mins drive to Ipswich, I am going to find out where it is coz I live near there and am deffinetly going to go.
Thanks OP,

Mike..

It mentions on the site that Billericay is one of the locations, that's in Essex

if you take kids and kit them out in body armour, make sure they know the rules.
we went once and aload of kids turned up, and started wandering around like the termniator cos the bullets didnt hurt.
your are supposed to leave the game when you are shot, not carry on cos it didnt hurt.
they soon realised when they got everyone shooting them repeatedly in the head, neck and ribs to get them out.
cue lots of crying kids.
seconded with te paint granades, cost a fortune and they are litterally a firework, with 3 or 4 paintballs inside some cutup eggbox.

smoke granades can be fun though.

Thanks for this. Ooops, forgot to say welcome to the site. Great first post.
#26
I'm going to try organise a trip!! Thanks for this!
#27
this is a fantastic deal. you could easily use x4 (100) in one day and at £8 (which is pricey) the £5 entrance covers it easily. and the sites cover both north and south london.

Be Careful That They Dont Get You To Play Longer Games As That Is Where They Make Their Money. Having To Pay For Extra Balls Is Always A Killer.
If You Go In A Group, Make Sure People Keep Track Of What They Are Spending.

Guys thought you may like this so posted it

Oh forgot and No Cheating ever happens, because if your Dead you are Actually Dead, your Gun wont fire and the sensors light up like a christmas tree

A full days paintballing where I live (Liverpool) only costs £15 per person.
The real expense is in the balls, which are £7 per 100. Last time I went I fired 600 bullets.

So it cost me £42 in bullets alone. This is not a cheap family day out, even if it's £5 entry and 100 balls.

how do you find out if ppl are voting cold?
#32
Great deal... considering a paintball booking is normally anything from £20 to £35 without the extra paint, that's a good deal. And yes, you can buy a million paintballs off ebay for a fiver, but you don't get to use them unless you want to provide your mates with paintball guns as well. This makes a very cheap way of organising a social event that would normally cost quite a bit of money. Well found!
#33
Pretty good deal. Voted hot. Worth asking if you can take your own paint... i doubt it though.

Anyone go to Elsham or Messingham site nr the Humber Bridge?
#34
I've voted cold.

Offers like this are available from most paintballing centres, and as has been noted - they easily make their money in other ways.
#35
it works out a lot more than that once you've purchased ur equipment - balls and hire of outfit and gas etc.
#36
Why is it called UKpaintball? There are no locations in Northern Ireland. They should rename themselves GBpaintball.

Do you think about how much electricity prices are when buying a new cheap telly?

Of course not, because electricity cost is such a miniscule proportion of the price of the TV. However the extra paintballs cost as much, if not more, than the entrance fee of £5.

Your logic is ridiculous.
#38
That paint would last all of 30 seconds, the amount of money it would end up costing you could probably buy a second hand kit and go off to a field.........
#39
cold, deals like this left right and center! they bloody do it free outside my station as long as theres a group of you (which there would be obviously!)

i spent about £80 including entrance, done about 1000 paint balls and that still wasnt enough! so there is nothing Hot* about this deal, its normal.

comment from the offer:
* 100 paintballs will get you started for the day. However the average use in the course of a full day is around 500 paintballs. Extra paintballs can be purchased on the day and range from £6 per 100 to £8 per 100.

Do the math will cost easily over £50 to have the slightest bit of fun.

That's what I would suggest too if you know a few like minded people who are really into a bit of sado masochistic fun on a regular basis :w00t: (and assuming you can find a firendly farmer or whatever with some unused barns etc ;-))

This deal is neither hot nor cold imho as its pretty common practice as others have said to have 'cheap' entry and make a killing on the ammo. I've even seen PB companies with delboy stands in the high street offering this and ammo at about £6 per 100. So as I say, pretty average deal.
