Having just paid almost £20 for a pair of Halfords own brand wiper blades I think this has to be a great deal. Just in time for winter too.
Even the best blades have only a limited life before their effectiveness starts to fade. At £3.99 a pair it's cheap enough to put a fresh pair of these on without waiting until the old ones are way past it.
Sizes to suit most cars.

If your car uses two different blade sizes like mine does just buy pairs of the two different sizes and you'll have a spare set ready for next time.

Great spot, need a new set, thanks OP.

In my experience cheap wiper blades are a false economy and a waste of money. You can definately notice the difference with quality
#3
Wilkinsons also sell single wiper blades in a range of sizes for £1.49 each.

Handy of you dont need/want to buy two sets to get differing sizes, but also for the rear wiper blade.

Yes, they are cheap/economy ones, but I've honestly never noticed a difference.

What johnson293 said re. Wilkinson blades. Especially if you have a Mondeo or similar which has different sizes for each of the three blades! One tip, though - keep the plastic bits from your current blades as the Wilkinson ones are a bit pants.

As for economy blades vs. branded blades; At £6.50 each for TP Performance blades (best tested by Auto Express), you can afford to change Wilkinson blades four times as often and still have change for a Mars bar!

And in my experience I've been pleased with some cheap ones and disappointed by some expensive ones - frankly there doesn't seem to be a clear corellation between price and effectiveness.

Certainly good for the price - bit like your Apollo bike post this morning really!

Maybe its time i tried the cheap ones again then eh? One bad apple and that.........
#7
Poundland did sell wiper blades. Not sure if they still do though.
No way would I pay £20 for a pair.
Last pair I bought came from GSF and cost under £5.

Only problem, as usual, is sizes... 21" is the biggest and most modern cars have big wiper blades, at least on one side :-(
Only got a smallish car (Mitsubishi Lancer, small family car category ), and I need 24" on one side.

I agree with you on that

Ive bought some of these before, they seem to work fine for a few months then the rubber starts to harden very rapidly and instead of 'wiping' they 'scrape & squeek' marking the windscreen.
I'm not saying these aren't a good deal, just change them regularly for best performance.
I've also had the £20 mark ones and they do last alot longer, like a couple of years.

Buy Bosch Wiper blades, they will last 5 times as long as these cheap and nasty ones, nothing worse than having poor wiper blades in the winter.

You post like you've done a back to back test - or is that just an opinion?
Agree they should last longer (doubt 5x though) but look at the price! You'll easily exceed £20 for a pair of Bosch (or do you know a good source?). Wife's Fiesta was supplied new with Bosch and they lasted 18 months.

Marketing hype :-(

Try parking them on the drive in front of my house and let the tree sap stick them to the screen and see how long they don't last!
My last car had Bosch blades, as they were the only brand I could buy locally for one side when I need them (and Lord were they expensive), the tree sap trick wrecked them pretty sharpish. (Even though I almost always lift them off the screen as I walk past to get in the car!)

This is the reason I always use cheaper ones now, and ALWAYS have spares, as I can usually not find them when they split, (again!) and end up paying silly money.

If only GOOD fitting refills were available like they use to be then that would save us all a fortune, but getting the right size refills for the frames is some challenge, even from the same manufacturer :-(

I was in B&M Homestores Wakefield at the weekend and got a pair for 99p. Fitted one to passenger side, worked ok this morning in the rain.

Yeah, tell us all - you will pay more than half that price for Tesco economy ones!

Got a pair of " SuperPlus " Bosch wiper blades delivered for under £12 on ebay from a reliable seller.

I would not compromise my safety on something as important as wiper blades.

That's an excellent price (assuming they're real) but still three times the price of these so hardly comparable.

Not a safety risk in the way that, say, Romanian tractor tyres on your BM would be. Worst that will happen is that they'll deteriorate faster, you'll notice and have to replace again. In practice I and other posters think they're fine.

I agree totally.
One reason I DO buy "cheap" wiper blades - so I can have a spare set handy in case they split - plus it means you are not tempted to use damaged ones which can and DO mark your windscreen!

From £12.95 per pair, plus P&P from:

http://www.carparts-direct.co.uk/Wiper_Blades.cfm

I didn't spot the 'from' or P&P charge until after my post, but this just emphasises the point of my post.
